The wave picture is a print of The Great Wave off Kanagawa . Original is a woodblock print by the Japanese artist Hokusai. It was published sometime between 1829 and 1833. Very famous picture.

I like to shop at thrift stores. Always have. When I was a kid, I'd go with my mom and grandmother. But these days our Goodwills are SO much higher than the prices that I see on the merchandise in your Pennsylvania stores! I envy you your various stores and the quality of goods that you find. I wish we had better/more thrift store options. Thanks for sharing.

Just to let you know Karen ..maybe it was a slip of the tongue but you said mercernised cotton...Im pretty sure you meant mercerised cotton. It was a process that was done to cotton in England and invented by John Mercer in the big industrial era when cotton was a massive industry in Lancashire England. My town! Actually, the Goodwill is in Thorndale, down the road almost from me. It's on the borderline of Downingtown and Thorndale. I haven't been there for over a year (I'm trying to stay away from buying vintage wood jewelry boxes to fix up and paint). It was always a bit disorganized, but it seems they have fixed it up, and also hung the mugs up, which is a great idea. Smart to pass up the Japanese print, which is one of the most popular of Japanese prints. It's Hokusai's The Great Wave off Kanagawa. Waterloo is Waterloo Gardens. It was an upscale garden center. It was in Exton. I used to live down the street (waaaay down the street) growing up. I spent many hours there. It's been demolished, and now townhouses have built on the ground. :-(.

    Really love the sweater!
And was curious about the pronunciation of "COOGI," so I Googled it: the "G" is a "hard g," just like the two g's in "Google." Not "COOJEE."
Also, I really liked that oversized "MOTHER" mug in the celadon colored glaze, and would have picked it up myself. The lettering and design on it looked to have been hand done. It likely wouldn't sell for a lot but there's definitely profit potential there. You don't pick up single mugs, but in this case you might want to rethink that: I don't know why someone would want three or four mugs spelling out "MOTHER".
    But that's just me!

Do you EVER buy anything for yourself at thrift shops? Or only buy new from regular retail stores?
I know your job of course is being reseller but if you ever do pick up things for yourself (at a thrift store), what type of things would you keep and NOT sell?
I have known of people who never buy things from thrift shop; maybe stigma or something about buying used things.
I am not a reseller at all and never have been, but I go to thrift shops to buy for myself - clothes. books, DVD's, CD's, earrings, an umbrella, some bowls, etc.
Only thing I buy new from a retail store is a psir of shoes now and then.
I have a small foot (size 5 or 5 1/2 and pretty hard to find very many shoes in that size at thrift shops.)
I rarely go into a regular store to buy new things, too expensive.
Even Wal-Mart items are expensive for a lot of things these days..

Your answer was a little vague. Your apt. looks luxurious. Are all the furnishings/paintings, etc. all from new retail stores?
Just curious is all. No one I know has a place with immaculate furnishings,
ha, we all have messy places, old stuff for the most part and so little money, and just wondering...do you buy most of these decor in your home from retail stores or ever from a thrift store?

Japanese Print minute15: it’s a very well known piece of art dating back to the Edo Period, done about 1831. The original art was produced to be replicated in a traditional Wood Block print. Ink on wood pattern blocks, done in a technique that’s been used in Japan for hundreds of years. Now, of course, it’s replicated in modern technology too. I have a copy I brought back from Japan about 30 years ago.

    • @brianhenry2385
      @brianhenry2385 2 года назад

It’s called: the Great Wave of Kanagawa. It’s the first print in Hokusai's series . The image depicts an enormous wave threatening three boats off the coast in the Sagami Bay (Kanagawa Prefecture) while Mount Fuji rises in the background. Sometimes assumed to be a tsunami, the wave is more likely to be a large rogue wave.
I have a framed and matted copy of all 36 prints, done in miniature. I brought it back to remind me of the 2 days my family and friends spent climbing Fuji, to see the sunrise on day 2.

Hi Karen I love your videos mostly because you are such a nice classy lady. I wanted to ask...did the nasty bullying situation that you mentioned in one of your previous videos stop/ get resloved or what ever?? I do hope so because you do not deserve such nastiness.

I did not find the clear bags you use for your items. I looked on you Amazon link but didn’t see them. Do you get them on Amazon?
