  • Most visitors to China must get a China tourist visa, or L visa for short, which permits them to travel freely in most regions of China as tourists, provided they do not qualify under China's visa-free rules. Passports, application forms, documentation demonstrating the itinerary, and an invitation letter from China are required application materials.
    In most situations, a traveler can get a single entry L visa with a 30-day stay. Citizens of the United Kingdom, the United States, Canada, and Argentina can get a 10-year Chinese multiple-entry tourist visa.

    1. What if I just want to go to China as an American citizen for the day from HK? No overnight stays, no one is inviting me. I'm not part of a tour. I don't know anyone in China. I'm not there for any employer.

    • @visalibrary
      @visalibrary  6 месяцев назад

      As an American citizen wanting to visit China from Hong Kong for just a day without overnight stays, tours, invitations, or employment reasons, you would typically need to apply for a tourist visa (L Visa). However, for very short trips like a day visit, there may be other options depending on the current policies of the Chinese government, such as visa-free transit policies in certain areas.
      It's important to note that visa policies can change, and specific requirements may vary based on current diplomatic relations and health and safety protocols. As of my last update, China had visa-free transit under certain conditions, but this generally applies to longer layovers and requires you to continue to a third country.
      For a straightforward day trip, you should check the latest requirements and procedures with the Chinese consulate or embassy closest to you or their official website for the most accurate and current information. Keep in mind that even for short visits, you must comply with all entry requirements set by China, including any health and safety measures.

      For a short tourist trip to China like yours, an invitation letter is generally not required if you can provide a detailed itinerary and proof of accommodation. The requirement for an invitation letter typically applies to those visiting friends or family, or for business purposes, where a host in China needs to provide a letter stating the purpose of your visit and other details.
      Since you are visiting as a tourist and have provided your travel itinerary and hotel bookings, this usually suffices. However, requirements can vary slightly depending on the local Chinese embassy or consulate processing your application.
      Here’s what you should do:
      Review Application Requirements: Double-check the specific visa application requirements listed on the Chinese embassy or consulate's website in New Zealand. They often provide a checklist that specifies when an invitation letter is necessary.
      Contact the Consulate: If the website isn’t clear or you want to be sure, it's a good idea to contact the consulate directly and confirm whether you need an invitation letter for your tourist visa given your circumstances.
      Prepare Supporting Documents: Ensure your itinerary is detailed (including your travel dates, entry and exit from China, and movement between cities like Shanghai and Beijing), and that your accommodation bookings cover the entire duration of your stay. These should be sufficient for a tourist visa.
      Visa Application Submission: Once you have all the required documents and confirmations, submit your visa application. Given the complexity and strictness of Chinese visa applications, ensure every detail is accurately presented to avoid delays or rejections.
      Visa Processing Time: Allow sufficient time for visa processing. It can take anywhere from a few days to a couple of weeks, depending on various factors including the type of service (regular or expedited) you choose.

    What format do you need to have the travel records in - can it just be a document typed up or something more official? Also, do you need to be vaccinated?

    • @visalibrary
      @visalibrary  Год назад

      When applying for a Chinese tourist visa, you must present a written and signed document outlining your itinerary and trip arrangements. This text should be typed or handwritten in English, Chinese, or both languages.
      You must also provide confirmation of recent immunization against some infectious illnesses, such as yellow fever and meningitis. A vaccination certificate is necessary for admission into China, and it must be ready to exhibit upon arrival. To ensure that you are fully vaccinated, it is essential to check with a physician or visit a travel health clinic before your trip.

    Thank you for a detailed and comprehensive video. I was checking China visa website for making embassy appointment. It said there's a limit of 3 applications per appointment. I am not sure if I read it correctly. What if there's 4 of us in the family wanting to get Chinese visa from Canada? Will I make 2 separate appointments with the embassy? Are all 4 of us required to be present during the appointment? Thanks.

    • @visalibrary
      @visalibrary  10 месяцев назад +1

      You are correct that the Chinese embassy or consulate often has limitations on the number of visa applications that can be submitted per appointment slot. If there are four people in your family who need Chinese tourist visas, you will typically need to make two separate appointments, each for two individuals. This is a common practice to manage the application process efficiently.
      Regarding whether all four family members need to be present during the appointment, it's not usually necessary for everyone to be there at the same time. However, it's essential to check the specific requirements and guidelines provided by the Chinese embassy or consulate where you plan to apply. They may have their own policies regarding whether applicants need to appear in person or if it's acceptable for one family member to submit applications on behalf of others, along with all required documents.
      I recommend visiting the official website of the Chinese embassy or consulate in Canada or contacting their visa services section for precise information and guidance on the application process and any specific requirements they have in place.

      You will very certainly be required to show proof of further travel, such as a return ticket. You may also be required to produce proof of lodging, usually for the first night of your trip, however flexible or refundable arrangements or proof of cash might be acceptable alternatives.

    • @visalibrary
      @visalibrary  Год назад +1

      American citizens applying for a Chinese tourist visa were required to go in person to the Chinese embassy or consulate to submit their visa application. However, please note that visa requirements and application processes can change, so it's essential to check the latest information on the website of the Chinese embassy or consulate that has jurisdiction over your area. Additionally, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, there may have been changes to visa application procedures, including the possibility of online application or appointment requirements. Therefore, it's highly recommended to verify the current visa application process before planning your trip to China.

    How do we apply china tourist visa if we intend to enter China by foot, bicycle, bus and train? Because it is impossible we can buy the bus tickets in advance. Thanks

    • @visalibrary
      @visalibrary  Год назад

      If you plan to enter China by foot, bicycle, bus, or train, you must apply for a Chinese visa before arrival. The visa application form (Form JW201 or Form JW202) should be completed and submitted to the Chinese Embassy or Consulates-General in the US, along with additional documents such as a passport with at least 1 blank visa page, a COVA Visa Form, proof of residence, and a Where You Stay Form. Additionally, if you are a foreigner in the US, a photocopy of the green card, visa, I20, or I94 must also be provided. Please follow the guidance for a minor of Chinese origin born in the US [1]. It is also important to ensure that your passport has at least 6 months of validity. As for traveling by bus, it is important to note that there are advantages in terms of convenience and cost, but bus travel can be quite cramped and noisy, and accidents can occur in areas known as "black spots" for bus accidents.

      No, a visa invitation letter does not have to be written by hand. It should be typed or printed, include all relevant information, and be signed and dated. The letter should include information about the purpose of your visit, your relationship with the person who invited you, the length of your stay, and your lodging arrangements. It should also include the inviter's full name, address, and contact information.

    • @visalibrary
      @visalibrary  Год назад

      It's often valid for 3 months and not longer. If you want to extend it, you should submit an application for an extension at least seven days before your visa expires. You will have to go to the Exit and Entry Administration Office of the Public Security Bureau and submit the required documents. You'd better apply earlier as Chinese officials might not accept and you must leave the country.
