We all have "guilty pleasure pop songs" we listen to when nobody is watching, some of them are composed very well with catchy melodies, but what if those songs where turn into metal?
Although I know many of you will say you prefer the original versions I love what this metal artists did with the songs. Subscribe and recommend some songs for part 2. All the songs are in a playlist I made so you can listen the songs with no interruptions.

Is it just me or are the metal covers more.... alive?

Every pop song sounds better in metal to me. You make a great point that they sound more "alive!"
Some pop songs sounds just too shitty to me to sound good even in metal. Some pop songs are great and have that metal potential in them and thus they sound extremely good in metal.
Everyone concentrates only on heaviness. But metal always benefits from some harmonies and other stuff. Pop music usually doesn't have that, so even metal versions don't sound so good. For example, most pop music is in major key and metal works best in minor key to my taste. And there is everything else.
The problem with pop music is that it is so canned, so processed, that you might as well be listening to a piece of wood.

I don't know. I actually like the original versions very much. Big fan of Halestorm, but Lady Gaga is awesome.
The Bille Elish one is the one that I disliked.

Lacuna Coil's version of Enjoy the Silence is pretty sweet, too. There's nothing wrong with covers, I really like seeing what different people do with the same song :)
I actually thought lacuna coil's version was an original 😂 until a friend started singing along and I was like "do you know Lacuna Coil?" All surprised and stuff lol. They both are cool
@@metalground212 I'd consider that mainstream repertoire, at least here in Germany where it is on the radio often. Especially on those stations that specialize on 80ies music (it's also on the SingStar 80ies version ;P) The Depeche Mode original is from the 80ies, but they also did a new version in I guess 2010 or something which already sounds a bit heavier than the original does. Definitely is a cool song, no matter the version. And if that helps bridge the gaps between different music styles that's even more of a plus in my book :)
Actually I prefer Lacuna Coils cover of "Enjoy the Silence" by Depeche Mode.
@@metalground212 One of those amazing songs that metal only makes it better. Enjoy the Silence is another one with great metal potential. Other pop songs just don't work.

I think Lady Gaga and Christina Aguilera could have been amazing rock and metal singers if they had decided to go that route with their careers, they certainly have the vocal skills and power in their voices and I've heard them cover rock songs and do great. Such a shame, wasted talent. Britney maybe not for metal, but she would have been a great rock and punk rock singer. Again, unfortunately she went a different way. In general, rock bands and singers tend to be more level headed than pop artists and a lot longer careers.
Lady Gaga before become "lady gaga" played rock. But music industry doesn't want a crazy girl called "stefanie germanotta"
@@IgnacioAOlivar the name Lady Gaga is cool. I just think she's got the voice for soul, blues, rock and even metal. I know the music industry favors other styles unfortunately. Maybe if she'd been born 10 or 20 years earlier she'd have been a huge rockstar.

Billie is talented. You cant say she’s a bad singer but I’m not really into that type of music. But I do respect her ;/

Lzzy Hale does so much better than what the original artist of the song does. She is the most talented woman in rock and metal.
Meral is freaking amazing, look up Frog Leap Studios that guy definitely is freaking talented I love his work and the guy is from Finland so english isn't his own language but still makes amazing work

This what I picture inside my mind whenever I listen to pop.
Notice how people are always scared of metal saying it is satanic and sh**t yet you have all of those pop artist making weird AF videos. Like Gaga and Elish I'm sorry but I get super grossed out.

I don't think they are scary, I think they are meaningless and banal. Which is worse than scary. But the Chandelier video is just creepy with what looks like a little girl and Shia.
Pop can be done by anyone, metal singers can do pop songs, pop "singers" cant even do pop, the fact that tgey have so much fans is just a sad reality we live in...

When I saw chandelier I expected Alex terrible but still a pretty good list.
I don't know... some of these didn't sound like more than a distortion pedal added to the guitar and that's good enough. I wanted things to be more imaginative.
Pop:
-boring
-lifeless
-no guttural screams
Metal:
-epic
-lively
-screams for days BREEE BREEE!

This is what I love about Lzzy's voice. She can sing with that epic low tone raspy rocker's voice and also hit those high clean and flawless notes. That is talent on a whole different level.
And on a side note: I don't know what people see in Billie Eyelashes. Mumble whispering is not a talent and overall she's just plain useless, and now apparently she's singing for the opening credit sequence for the new James Bond movie. Have the producers heard The Pretty Reckless' new song, 25?

There is a saying: Immitation is the sincerest form of flattery.
I used to think it was metal vs everything else, but it's not, it's just differrent strokes for different folks. Some people enjoy metal others like pop, classical, jazz, latino or any other genre and that's fine.
P.s. Also R.E.M. is awesome and can't be considered Pop by any strech of the imagination.

Alex Terrible's version of bad guy is much better
I dont think it his fair for the men singing chandelier to put him against a woman(SIA), without huge amplification, he couldnt be heard at all due to a massive uses of mixed and reinforced falsetto while SIA is using a full chest resonance, he did a great job for a man with a "man voice".
