Don't they just! I love those VFD games. Never had one as a kid, but have repaired many on the channel. Thanks so much for your comments. Glad I could bring back some happy memories.
Hi @@Rockythefishman thanks for your comments. My first ever video was a "munch man" and I also did a "puck monster" repair you might like those vids too. Perhaps one of those games is what you had?
I learned that Super Kong keeps his electronics in his backside today ;) No matter how easy the repair your videos are always a joy to watch. Well done you on getting both going.
Thanks Jason, that's great feedback. So happy that you are enjoying the content. I'm really trying to improve the quality of the audio tracks so this is very much appreciated. Thanks.
Thanks Vince. I really appreciate you still finding time to comment on the vids. What a top bloke! I'm in love with the citric acid, I don't think I'll use it again on small parts or anything I need to solder but "around the house" it's been great at descaling and rust removal. If I ever need to de rust some larger parts I'll be using it again. I hope you and your family are all well. Being enjoying the vids, the boat, the deloroan clock, coffee machine, great stuff. Thanks again. Roger
@@RetroTechRepair Always enjoy your videos Roger and 9 times out of 10 learn something new👍 Thanks for uploading and keeping up to date with my videos. Now get filming, we need more RTR!!!!!😂
Oh yes the ebike.... what a nightmare, be careful what you wish for ! I am thinking its to going to be series now, but there will be an update. Glad that you enjoyed the video.
I enjoyed that, nice repairs on the Kongs. Never played one before but I think they are nice to look at if nothing else 😊 Great to see you back with an upload 👍
Thanks Ghost Retro. Yeah tricky one really. I did want to show off my kongs! But was hoping for a more taxing repair, I've had a lot of stuff like that recently and the price difference between working or not tends not to cover ebay fees. Maybe one day I'll be like RMC or 8-but guy and people will send me stuff for free! Until then occasionally I need to just show what I have.
@@RetroTechRepair Personally, I like all repair videos easy or complicated. I have always been into fixing stuff from when I was a kid. The cost-of-living crisis has hit me hard, so I am not in a position to help out at the moment, but if in the future things change, yours would be the first channel I would think of helping.
@Ghost-Retro that's very kind thank you. At the moment I don't have patreon or anything like that so you'd have to get your soldering iron out to help ;). Sorry things are tough for you, hoping it picks up soon.
Oh thanks awal1701 how kind. Thanks. I was just thinking about you actually as the video is Currently running 2nd to the heman sword that I co-oped with toy polloi after your recommendation. Massive thanks for your continued support
@@RetroTechRepair I hope your channel will continue to grow as I do find your channel inspirational to find and fix my old electronic games where they have been stored in the loft for decades.
Thanks so much Count Zero... always a tricky decision with such an easy repair but since I buy the games and resell to fund the channel I tried hard to engage and keep it interesting. So I'm extremely glad you enjoyed and very grateful for the feedback. Thank you
I can usually tell whether something was opened before by counting the number of missing screws :) Anyways these videos are great regardless of how easy the fix was. Keep up the good work!
How kind Norrecito. I try hard to keep improving, sound quality, editing, video quality etc not just content so I'm extremely grateful for your kind words and feedback. Thank you
Another great video Roger! I'm looking at one of these, so found it interesting regardless of the relative ease of the fixes. I've also been wondering about the best way to treat battery acid corrosion on the terminals lately. The Astro Wars I repaired recently (see my comments on your video!) has some corrosion that I'd like to remove for cosmetic reasons even though tit doesn't affect the power supply. I've never heard of the citric acid treatment before, but sounds like this isn't the best approach. I do have some white vinegar left over from another project so might give that a go. Do you have any idea on the chemistry of this and/or the best possible treatment?
Hi Neil. Thanks for your support and your question. I have tried various approaches to battery terminal repair. Honestly I've found replacement to be the best option. I've had some success with white vinegar. Citric acid left the terminals very hard to solder. I think good for large metal items, but o personally won't be using it on battery terminals again. The post apocalyptic inventor had a video on rust treatments. I don't know the chemistry. Anyhow glad your astro wars is sorted, the d882 is usually the problem. Thanks again. Roger
Thanks TNT. It's been a while I know. I work 2 to 3 jobs and jobs 1 and 2 have been very busy lately. I finally got a weekend off and this is how I spent it. I hope that you enjoyed the vid. Thanks for the feedback
It’s been quite a while.. I really miss your video… actually i miss your voice. It remind me of someone.. if only i can remember who.. nevertheless as always it’s still a great video. So thanks..👍🏻
Thanks Zulkarnain sorry it's been a while. Good to be back. I've had my voice likened to a few people, Jeremy Clarkson, Jeremy Irons and there is another retro RUclipsr who sounds frighteningly like me. Anyhow so glad you enjoyed the video and thanks very much for your kind words.
Thanks Gordon, I moved to rechargeable s after someone brought to my attention the wastefulness of zinc carbons. I've been happy with the vartas... thanks so much for your comments.
Hi Tooty... thanks for your comments. I was tempted by the vinegar, I've used that before with success but had found the acid better on large items.... however it seems to form some kind of compound on the surface... that compound seems to add some additional rust protection, which is great, unless you need to solder to it! guess that's why everyone else uses vinegar.... I bet there are some chemists out there who can explain it all for us. Until then thanks again for your comments and kind words. Both are greatly appreciated.
I understand it doesn't necessarily make a great video, but digikey still sells brand new C-cell terminals. I used them for an Actronix Formal 1 Chanpionship game that had terminals that really were beyond saving. They were not a drop in replacement by any means, but nothing I little piece of double sided adhesive couldn't fix. The end result looks really clean.
A tip from VINCE's recent failure video: Turn the power supply on before connecting the leads otherwise there is the risk to inject more voltage than intended. Noticed you did this for one of these kongs and would have been a shame to burn them by mistake. Around minute 15 of this video ruclips.net/video/J32hMPhB3YQ/видео.html
Thanks I will definitely give that a go. Thanks for taking the time to leave a comment, much appreciated 👍. Hope that you enjoyed the video. Thanks again!

Thanks custardo! I've used similar replacements I've bought on ebay, before butt didn't realise digi-key sold them. Thanks for the tip.

Soak rusty parts in cola overnight and the rust will be gone by morning. A quick wash is all you need for cleanup.
