After all Derek already thinks he’s the worst guy in the world right here, so as he sees it, if Mer was to take the bait his and dereks relationship is already ruined so there’d be no effect, except for Mark knowing he’s possibly saved Derek some heartbreak later on - atleast that’s how I think Mark sees it. (I think this is shown by the way he smiles at the end when he sees Meredith choose Derek & how later on he says he only came to Seattle for Derek)
He didn’t really smile. It was a hurt smile. He’s pathetic and went after every girl Derek wanted just because. He wanted to take from Derek to prove he was better but he couldn’t take Meredith and he was dumb as hell to think he could
I love Mark. But it's not that way. He knew Meredith and Derek love each other right from the start. He is not protecting Derek or Meredith, he is trying to justify his cheating a$$ and make a point to Derek. Mark later on realized that he came to Seattle for Derek because he is the only family he got with or without Addison.
i do think he cares for derek but at that point i’m pretty sure he had no benevolent intentions. mark saw part of himself in meredith because they both got the short end of the straw in life and love and they were both “dark and twisty”. it was an underdog club. i think mark’s perspective was more about not ending alone while derek and addison forced themselves into being together (having to see the woman he loves with his “brother”). at the end he looks at her agreeing to be with derek with sadness because once again another woman that he emotionally connected with chooses derek over him and mark realizes that perhaps he is so damaged that he is bound to end up alone. it’s the typical golden boy/broken brother trope (think tvd salvatores, marvel’s thor and loki).
I love Mark but I hate that the writers made him chase Meredith. He already ruined his friendship and he chooses to chase the girl his ex best friends is involved with when any women at that hostipal would jump at the chance to be with him, why?
Why would you want that? Mark is that friend that just wants what his friend has just to say he got it. In this situation it was Meredith. Mark has slept with 2 of Derek sisters and his wife. Why would Meredith go from Derek Shepherd to Mark Sloan? She was considered the slutty intern the slutty mistress. What do you think people wouldve called her if she slept with Mark?
