I have a hard time with the negative comments here. Of course they are not Yes. Why are you watching this if you want the real Yes? I once sent a friend a RUclips link to an amazing tribute/cover of Pink Floyd and she got all upitty with me about them not being the real thing and she'd seen the real thing etc. I think only real musicians get just how awesome a cover done this well really is. For all you arm chair musicians out there trust me. It is a monumental achievement to pull this sort of thing off to this level of perfection. Go Richie and friends! From a fellow musician who has played most of his life and still can't come close to that level of proficiency and artistry, well done. Love this shit.
72911RS I wish I could give your comment multiple thumbs up. Anyone who can’t appreciate how great these musicians are need to just settle down. Like someone wrote earlier about seeing Yes in concert, I too have seen them dozens of times in concert going back as early as 1976. I feel like I know every note of every song, and when I hear the Band Geeks play it’s readily apparent they’re faithfulness to the music doesn’t come at the expense of sounding mechanical or rote, which I attribute to them being excellent musicians. They’re a treasure and should only be applauded for this.
Tony Brooks, I think it's a tie actually, between these guys, and a Canadian Yes tribute band called Close to the Edge. Their singer, Benoit David actually toured with Yes on one of their tours. When Jon Anderson was ill, and they needed a singer, the bass player from Close to the Edge got a phone call about an order he placed for a Chris Squire solo album, probably A Fish Out of Water, as I think that was the only solo album he did, and it turned out it was Chris's wife that was calling, and he told her about their band. Well, Chris watched the RUclips videos and was impresses, and called David, and asked him if he wanted to tour with them, because they needed a singer. I saw that show, and I saw their videos, and they really got it down. I suggest you check them out. But yes - no pun intended - I love these guys, and I love the girl. They have videos where she not only sings, but plays keyboards or bass. They also do Queen, Kansas. and Led Zeppelin.
Personal opinion, Band Geek, which isn’t a Yes tribute band, leaves “Close to the Yes” in the dust. Especially considering how many other things “Geek” is actually focused on compared to any tribute band
Being a "YES" fan for almost 50 years, I can easily say that you guys cover YES better than I thought possible.. Keep up the good work as I anxiously look for the next recording!
I am old enough to have heard this song played live by Yes in the 70's. This is beyond amazing! You guys sound as good as the real thing. A++ I'm sure Chris Squire is smiling upon you all!
Very good cover - but nowehere close to the vibe of "the real thing". The chemistry of YES in the 70's remains one of the high points in music history.
It's an extremely good rendition, no doubt about that, but to me there is something wrong with the sound, I suspect it is down to the poor acoustics of the venue. The singer is very good, but not as good as Jon Anderson. But I am certainly thankful to band geek for making this.
Maybe my favorite Yes tune. Love how Richie switched guitars and had someone else play the distinctive bass and then recruited two others for keys and guitars for the last parts. Great jam. Spot on.
Your Yes covers are sooo f'n good. Wow. I gotta say I especially loved the vocals. Obviously Ann Marie, but also the harmonies were just ear candy. I can't sing but play instruments, I have major respect for those that can sing. Fantastic cover . You guys all totally nailed it. It's no wonder John Anderson wants to tour with you.
Würm is such a fun jam. You guys really did it justice. And your drummer was the unsung hero of this video! He's back there chopping wood like a madman and making it look easy.
Cover or not you are bringing amazing performances to the people and hopefully encouraging the current generation to appreciate real musicianship. You’re amazing! Thank you for renewing old loves and making new ones. I hope I can catch you when visiting my daughter in NYC. She and her husband are just discovering the album collection of his deceased father and that musical collection is bringing him back to life. I’m 10,000 miles away in Thailand but I FEEL every performance you’ve given, and it fills my heart with joy!
Sounds wonderful! Not too many try this stuff, doesn't get any more technically difficult. You guys have really pulled it off, I didn't think it possible, lol. Keep it going please! Is Relayer a possibility?
This is the second best thing I have ever seen on the internet, beaten only by the video of Jon Anderson telling an anecdote about meeting Robert Plant then performing a medley of Don't Kill the Whale and Kashmir with what appears to be the local high school band while pretending to play bass. I am not making this up.
This wonderful song being performed by such great musicians (and female singer !) makes me realise what a fantastic song this actually is ! My love for this song (and others performed by Geek) is totally rejuvenated ! What a great and worthy tribute to my all time favorite band Yes !
8 brilliant musicians - like the Yes Union album minus the animosity. If I was super wealthy (and we had all been vaccinated against COVID) , I would fly you guys (plus Chris Clark) half way around the world to play at a massive party at my place! That would be my ultimate bucket list event!
Just another ol' timer here sayin' * PHEW!! * Gowon, ROCK that house down! I'd have to agree with others, having seen Yes live back in the day, it jus' seems to me you're doin' a better job, totally heartfelt YEAH!! And cheers, letting everyone have a solo. Keep on' rockin', y'all!
You guys, are without a doubt, the most incredible band covering these songs! I’ve been listening to this since the early 70’s. YES was my fave, (other than ELP WHICH YOU ALSO COVER!) ....keep doing it!!! This was so great!!!! See you in Annapolis Md for your show with BLUE OYSTER CULT on october 6th!!! Can’t wait! thanks for your talent, j Richie and all band geek folks!!!!
Awesome performance Richie and company!!! Hard to cover Yes with such precision but you are all very high caliber musicians and you all nailed it!!! You have fun playing together and that's what it's all about!!!
Everyone's entitled to their opinion. If Yes Official still does it for you, well great. Enjoy. For me, they really aren't sounding very good. Yes ARW is holding the torch for me. @bountybar
Indeed; saw ARW a couple of times, first show was no more than OK, second show was excellent. Saw Yes 4 times in the US in July and each night they were easily as good as I've seen them, with the exception of the 35th anniversary tour
@@bountybar I saw Yes Official in June and they were pretty dismal. I have to imagine they must have had better shows than the one I saw, but I've seen them 3 times since '08 and not one show was what I'd call excellent. ARW was excellent both times I saw them. Even if you just compare Topographic Drama and Live At The Apollo, I'm just pretty underwhelmed by Yes Official.
Besides how good they are, I like how generous they are with the spotlight. Over the course of their various songs, everyone steps forward. Looks like no egos going wild. Nice!
Except perhaps the band leader taking bass at the start then moving to vocals and later guitar. Actually it says a lot - Yes were virtuosic and brilliant in every part.
I heard this in Bristol in about 1975. This brought back wonderful memories. Thankyou for, whilst being true to the original, putting your own stamp on the track. Performance rather than pastiche or homage. You are not only incredibly talented, but you are helping to make the music of 45 years ago stay alive, fresh and interesting.
Great live ending and solo performances. When you come to Utah, I’ll be there. Who would have thought a bass player that sounds as good as Chris Squire could play lead guitar so well? All of you are such accomplished musicians to bring this fantastic music back to life! I am humble in your presence. Thanks 🙏
This is secretly one of my favorite Yes songs, actually I only have about fifty favorite Yes songs. You did a great job. And it looks like you enjoy making music we can fall in love with.
I can't believe that I m saying these words, but this is as good as I've seen Yes do it themselves. And I've never liked a tribute band in my life and I'm 65 years old
As a long time fan of Yes going all the way back to when this song was brand new (1970) I can objectively say that this was a well done cover of this classic tune. Yes, the Würm portion was stretched out a bit but it was a lot of fun and still quite well done. Kudos.
the best tribute to IMHO the most epic of Yes tracks... adored it....! this will be my go to when I need to just be absorbed by the music... thank you! The love and sweat put in to this performance brings me to tears!
As a lifelong Yes fan I must say I am most impressed. You rocked the house and I appreciate that we can still feel the vibes from your excellent performance online. Keep on rockin'!
OK... I'll never stop praising you all .... Someone should fund you for international tours.... you'll at least fill large clubs and probably more, but i get it... you guys are comfy doing your thing, and it's wonderful!!! I want more and more videos at least..... I'm hooked on you all
Band Geeks, Thank You! This is my favorite Yessong, and I really enjoyed how you took it on. Makes me smile. I was hoping for drumming that duplicated Bruford's intricate polyrythms, especially on the "speak to me of summer" sections, but that, I know, is too much to expect. I only see praising comments, like it should be.
How could anyone find fault with this? They're great!
I have to agree with you..I've heard yes play this poorly..its a very difficult song to pull off,but they did an awesome job..
It's funny 'cause they play the song better than half of yes' renditions. Except for the singer messing up dissolution, that is...
THE BEST Yes cover band I have ever heard hands down.
Tony Brooks , absolutely.
