Special Thanks To:
My uncle Phil Castellano for loaning me his gorgeous Rickenbacker 4001CS Chris Squire Limited Edition Signature Bass #12 of only 1000 made.
Tom Cintula for loaning us his amazing Martin 12 string (which I stupidly broke during this recording and is currently awaiting replacement parts at the repair shop. Sorry Tom!) Please check out Tom’s music here: / tom cintula & the buff...
LR Baggs for promptly sending me replacement parts for Tom’s broken guitar.
Ray Magnuski for loaning us his MBrace guitar stand.
The drums are played on a Roland TD-11 triggering sounds from Native Instruments Abbey Road 70’s drummer. Some of the quieter toms are coming from the Kontakt Factory Library. The triangle is miked with an Audio Technica AE-4100.
The Bass is a Rickenbacker 4001CS going mono into a Universal Audio 4710D. It’s main tone is coming from Line 6 Helix Native. The bass in the first verse is split onto 2 different tracks. A bass an octave down to cover the drop D notes and the harmonics I’m playing sent through a guitar amp with a Leslie speaker inside Helix Native.
Andy Graziano is playing a Martin 12 string equipped with an LR Baggs Element system that sounded incredible. It’s running into the 4710D, then through the Helix Native with an acoustic IR blended in. His electric guitar is a Gibson 335 running through Helix Native. For the lap steel, he’s using a very inexpensive Rogue guitar that was the noisiest thing we ever recorded. It’s also running through Helix Native and getting it’s delay and reverb from Waves’ CLA Epic. That track needed a fair amount of futzing to get it to sound like anything usable.
Phil is playing his Taylor 414ce acoustic going through the 4710D, then through the Helix Native with an acoustic IR blended in. For the 6 string electric he’s playing a Gibson 335. For 12 string he’s using a Rickenbacker 360v64-12. Both guitars are going through a Leslie effect inside of Helix Native. He’s playing a Moog Sub 37 to play the Chris Squire Bass pedals part. That’s going into Waves RBass for some extra brown note action.
Rob is using a Nord for pretty much everything. Some of the synth sounds are coming from AIR Vaccum and Sampletank as well. I ended up using the Mellotron sound directly from the Roland FA-06, so we didn’t do any triggering there. For guitar, Rob is playing a Music Man Silhouette Special into Helix Native with the Leslie Effect.
Ann Marie is playing a Roland A-49 triggering IK Multimedia Syntronik and Sampletank. Her vocal mic is an Audio Technica AT-4047MP going into a Vintech 573 preamp into a DBX 560A compressor, then processed with various Waves plugins inside Pro Tools.
The rest of us are using Audio Technica ATM-510 microphones. For the coins and crosses Leslie effect, the vocals are going through the AIR DB-33 Hammond simulator.
Again I used Waves CLA Mix Hub for a lot of this mix. I think I’ve been watching too many SSL videos on RUclips lol! I also used a fair bit of CLA Epic and the CLA compressors. I have a Waves J37 tape emulation plugin on the master bus to crunch things up a bit.
We’re all using Audio Technica headphones. Our discreet monitor mixes are being handled by the MOTU 1248 which makes this entire workflow possible.
This performance was taken from several live takes. We recorded and mixed in Avid Pro Tools and Edited the video in Adobe Premiere. The cameras are Zoom Q2n’s.
#Yes #Prog Rock #Band Geek - Видеоклипы
I've known Yes for 50 years, and I always thought only 5 people on earth could play this music. I was wrong. Super.
singer is a mistake --but I feel that way about all of em except maybe Benoit
I agree. She's a few octaves above Jon Anderson but a great cover indeed. Steve Howe got nothing on the 12 stringer here. 👍
I thought that for the first couple of years I knew of them- Fragile and the the mind blowing Close to the Edge. In the summer of 1974, the band came to a ‘big city’ fairly close by.
When I got to the show, I realized I wasn’t alone! Not by a long shot! And everyone around me knew ALL the lyrics to every song! Well, except for “Tales…”. Then, Rick didn’t know it all that well, either.
It was at my first live Yes show that I heard about the first two albums. They were seriously difficult to obtain as that city became a HUGE Yes town. It was a blessing and a curse because before that show, I assumed I was the band’s only fan, afterwords, I had to share them- which made me feel like I belonged to a movement- but lost my superiority complex, without peer, as their ONLY fan.
I feel otherwise. Her voice made these classics sound new and fresh to me. I fell in love all over again
I totally agree these guys are so special totally blown away with Anderson this is the new Yes ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤ the future begins YES indeed
This is why Jon Anderson picked the Band Geeks as his band for his recent US tour. Fantastic!
Yes seen that on my cell phone Google news feed ....seen these guy video a few days before that announcement.... Shown one video of the original vocalist with these guys...got to be stoked playing for jon...
06/24 ....From the '70's, I was suitably impressed by this group !! The Female vocalist had the quality and Clarity of voice ( required ) for the lyrics of a Yes song....BUT, she " ain't " no Jon Anderson...
I am curious - Wonder why she was not included, Or; if she just had other plans !!
@@alton936 She was not included because she's a vocalist and Jon Anderson is the vocalist. Wouldn't make sense to have both of them singing at the same time.
Rick Wakeman said in an interview, and I'm paraphrasing, that Yes will probably be around after all of the original members are gone. Different musicians but still Yes. I nominate The Band Geeks.
I second that.
One of the Top 5 cover bands in the history of cover bands.
And it's not just one band that they cover.... everything from Wilson Phillips to Black Sabbath to Alanis...
Totally agree
the FIRST
THE TOP! And now everybody knows
You guys must already know how happy this makes people. But in case you didn’t get the memo: this is amazing! I really really really love it! Thank you. You’ve made a happy man very old!
I’m a HUGE fan girl!!!
Yea… absolutely brilliant, the fist bump at the end made me laugh!
Its beautiful how the universe works. There are millions of people who could hear this piece of music and never understand why it can bring millions of other people to tears at the pure joy of hearing sound arranged in those specific patterns. And somewhere someone else is saying the same thing about something else that would go six feet over my head.
I'm 63. This is part of the soundtrack of my youth, truly the best days of my life. I've watched this a dozen times and have yet to make it through once without choking up. Emotion revealed...
One of my favorite Yes songs. You play fantastically well and Ann Marie's voice is superb. This is how to make a grown man cry
Wow....Mr. Squire is smiling down from heaven! Thanks for all the hours of practice that must of taken.
Are they playing the same bass played by Squire?
@@timothyirwin8974 I believe it is. A Rickenbacker 4001s model. Same as Chris used. You can tell by the dots instead of the shark fins on the fretboard. I believe he mentions it in his bass collection video (Richie, that is).
Ann Marie's voice is just perfect for Jon Anderson's work. I love it so much.
AND ... she is SO CUTE!
Great voice indeed!
Yes she has a sweet voice. She is beautiful too.
And as I understand how RUclips works. If you sound to much like the original track there is copyright issues. That’s why there HAS TO BE some differences . Otherwise I think they would nail this song to a T. Although this is an amazing version.
She is the only person that sings yes songs that doesn’t make me think of how they sing differently from Jon Anderson. Her voice just sounds right.
Made my day and my day just began. This is the song -- as a 13 year old -- that made me 'see' music for the first time. Kudos.
I was also 13 when I first heard Close to the edge album. My head exploded... I was really alive now.
Actually some of the best melodic movement in music written in the second half of the 20th century. Some stunning passages in that song. Very well performed. Bravo!
I don't care how old this 'thread' gets - these peeps are friggin' awesome. I can't find the proper words right now to describe how good this is! 💥!
A LOT of talent in this video. You guys never disappoint and never fail to amaze!
This is an astounding triumph. As always, the work you did to get to this point is evident. Thank you.
I just got the shivers!! Seriously
Amazing. Bravo EXCELLENT! Her voice is so adorable and beautiful!!
Andy saying the "okay" at the start... *chef's kiss* Fantastic job all around!
OK!
And Richie's reaction haha
For the 6 of you to do this song in one take, with this attention to detail, is absolutely amazing! Bravo!
The song I loved the most until they wrote Awaken. Greatest crescendos they ever wrote. Wakeman's Mellotron orchestrations were phenominal and the Taurus bass pedals just killed it.Saw this with the classic lineup many many times You people did a a wonderful job as always. Thank you!
Yes, the Taurus pedal. I saw them in San Jose back in 2004-ish, and the sound made my lungs expand and contract involuntarily. I was in the 6th row.
@@alexandercalder2143 Squire standing on one leg playing bass and the pedals made for what he described as bombastic sounds
It's great to see the younger generation love the same music as I do. It shows that it will live on forever.
Well. some of the younger generation. Most are into hip-hop and rap...and that is REALLY sad.😒
There is a reason nobody tries to cover these songs. The songs were created by 5 of the most talented musicians of the era, or any era. Nailing it blows my mind! In fact, dare I say it, your version has just enough of a "harder" feel to it that is gives it a bit more energy (as if that is possible) without taking away any of the beauty of this song. One of the most beautiful songs ever written and performed. Even grumpy C Squire (who I have met) would have loved it.
My god this song throws me nostalgicly back in time 48 years. To my room as a 15 y/o boy, shy, insecure, full of questions and uncertainties listening to the beautiful music of Yes. And now the Band Geek guys hit me again and brought me to tears looking back and thinking over my life so far. That says it all: you guys nailed it (again) with this cover. Thnx!
Me too friend...but now (at 64) can I play it loud without Dad telling me to "turn that shit down!"
My dad was gone in ‘71. My father and mother gave my brothers and I guitar lessons. Mom bought me (to share, as we didn’t have much) a Silvertone acoustic guitar (which, among others, I really wish I still had) and I used to pick notes along with this great song! Fairly loudly, I may add. Mom was so cool. My brothers, myself and & a couple of friends formed a band. We covered (~) Yes, Jethro Tull, Deep Purple, James Gang & ZZ Top tunes. I listened to CTTE so many times, I lost count many many years ago. This song is timeless. Thank you Band Geeks. Excellent cover!
That my friend, is the power of good music.
Same here, pal. It was 1972, I was 15/16 then. I'm and 65 now and still have shivers and tears in my eyes every single time I listen to this song - my favorite and the most beautiful Yes song ever.
Willie, you were born at the right time. Me, a bit too early. My 15 yr old experience was hearing the Beatles DAY IN THE LIFE for the first time in my boarding school dorm room. I was already in and out of the music major programme at college when i finally "got" this song; a little older, a little more jaded. Stil love it, though.
Andy and Richie's first bump was exactly how I felt!
Wow, I'm grinning ear to ear. Absolutely superb cover.
this is incredible. brought tears to my eyes to hear such an incredible song covered that well. just beautiful !!
It's the best cover of a prog classic song I've heard with the exception of Awaken by Todmobile featuring Jon Anderson on vocals. Awaken actually improves on the original, though, while this is a masterful copy. Although they all nail their parts, the guitarist is the MVP.
Made me cry too
THAT is how it's done! I was fortunate in my life to have seen this song played live for 1980 Drama tour, 1984 90125 tour, 1989 ABWH tour, 1991 Union tour, 1999 Ladder tour, and finally at Madison Square Garden in 2004 for the 35th Anniversary tour, where it received a 5 minute long standing ovation. This is a special song, one might say immersive and transcendent. It takes you on a journey and reminds you each time of the immense power of music. I salute this ensemble who have done this song the justice it deserves and recognize their outstanding talents. I doubt Jon Anderson himself could find a single flaw in that performance. So glad the YT algorithm treated me to this today!
Fabulous version. The girl's voice is perfect.
I often wondered if the music of my age would be carried forward. The Mozart, Bach, Beethoven of my generation. This gives me hope. Thanks Richie.
The complexity of Yes remains unsurpassed. You made me a happy man today. Exceptional...
You all are not Yes but somehow, someway you all took me back to a Yes that I thought I would never hear again. It's like seeing someone you thought was dead, living once again. I know that makes no sense but what you've put together is beyond words. It's perfection. And I might add that I'm a hardcore Jon fan that feels he just can't be replaced because of the uniqueness he brings but your vocals here sit so well with me and capture an innocence that Jon brought. Thank you for this and taking me a to a place I've missed.
Once again. Richie and the Bandgeeks bring all the emotion of that soaring song to life, the sound effects are duplicated to a tee. As usual. Can’t be surprised anymore. Bravissimo again.
They have taken on one of the greatest songs ever written and done it so very proudly.
OUTSTANDING!!!!!!! It took alot of ambition and talent from all of you to take on such a masterpiece. BROVO.
Stunning tribute to one of the greatest songs ever written. That bass and heavenly vocals.
Awwwwwesooooommmme. One of the best cover bands around. Every member a virtuoso.
the absolute best and you and i I have ever heard amazing thank you for all that painstaking attention to detail and flawless execution
Outstanding Geeks! Every note more delicious than the next! Gratzie!
prego
That was amazing! Looks like Andy was having a blast! Everything was so spot on! Keys, bass, drums, and the 12 string harmonics were so perfect! Thanks!
My jaw is on the floor---BRAVO!!!
Revisiting this and still moved at how you capture this extraordinary piece of music so completely - I have to smile that it takes two keyboard players at times to capture one Rick Wakeman! I met him a short while ago as he lives in my area - he loves dogs and I have one so we chatted about dogs for quite some time with my partner and his! Great and witty guy!
Brings a certain calmness to a day. Thank you!
I seen Yes in 2008 in Dublin ..
Tribute singer in for Jon ..and Ricks son Oliver on keys ...Steve Chris ( RIP ) and Alan ( RIP) were there ...we gave em a 10 minute standing ovation for And you and I ....Chris had to ask us to sit down !...this was as good ...well done Band Geeks
I ❤ you, guys! You made me cry! It's a good emotion of good times lived! Thank you, indeed! 💜 🎶
I live in Los Angeles area. I would love to see you guys as a yes tribute band do a concert. Do you tour near LA
Absolutely amazing as always!! I’m always not sure what to be more impressed with when watching your videos, that you’re able to learn and play all these insanely complex songs, or… that someone actually wrote them in the first place. You guys are incredible, but Jesus Christ Yes was in a different universe when writing this.
Finally, the opening acoustic guitar part is played like the album. Even Steve never plays it that way anymore. Thank You.
TOOOO GOOD!! With the excellent vocals in the band, you really must record the opening chant of 'The Revealing Science of God'. from Topographic Oceans. Oh heck, just do the whole song!
THIS MUST HAPPEN
WHAT THEY SAID
Ann Marie is IT. Both amazing and beautiful. What an incredible voice. Love the Band Geeks.
The Best cover of any song I’ve ever heard!
That is just what these guys do.
Yes, wonderful. Though I'd say their cover of roundabout edges it...
Absolutely unreal covers of Yes!!! Fortunate to see ORIGINAL YES 3 times, once with Canadian lead singer these guys bring me back to the wonderful sound of Original YES!!!!!!✌
Beautiful job by the guitarist at 4:47 playing that emotional Leslie keyboard solo with octaves on the guitar. This is actually the way I wish Yes played it live but they never played it like this. Thank you for rocking it, amazing job and I am super grateful! After I wrote this I see that it's the "most replayed" part of the video which is saying a lot!
Amo esta cover band.....Su exacta redintion es perfecta!!....emocionado hasta las lágrimas....68 años y escuchando a Yes desde la adolescencia en los 70! Son perfectos! Saludos desde Chile!
THAT MADE ME CRY!😭😭😭❤️🙏🏼 That was a very special and also poignant part in my life at the time.
Thank You, Band Geek for covering one of my favorite songs. The devotion and talent required to perform this great song is epic. Bravo to everyone!
I watched this again and the breathtakingly superb details of every musician is astonishing. Thank You again and kudos to everyone who put in the effort to learn and rehearse such a great song. A great talented bunch, all of you!
I love Ann Marie singing. And playing and ... everything. 💖🌷🙏
Kisses from Brazil 😙
Ann Marie has such a beautiful voice and her vibrato is perfection.
All the players are first class.
See you at the Ryman Auditorium July 24, 2024. Can’t wait.
WOW I MEAN WOW I'm 68 now I was 19 when I went to see Yes in Phoenix ,that was the Great Awakening for me lll Fantastic Job 🌹
Saw yuguys tonight at westbury Li.
The show was awesome. Richicjie yu were incredible. Took me back to when I was @18years seeing Yes first time of many times at Roosevelt Stadium in NJ. Closed yur eyes tonight and it was yes on stage great, yur band and Jon.
Gussy greek
Joyful! Triumphant! I've loved YES for decades and they ROCK!
THANK YOU!
Absolutely wonderful, incredible, perfect, superlative, masterful, marvellous, magnificent, sublime, tremendous.
Infact really quite delightful.
Paul J Night did you like it? 🤪🤪🤪
Superlative. Simply fantastic musicianship. Blown away. The original Yes bandmates should be smiling down on this immaculate cover. Especially Chris Squire.
"Don't you know that you are all Gods"
What a Masterpiece of Perfection and Illumination!
I am Speechless. Thank YOU! SO MUCH!
Ann Marie’s voice sits perfectly within the sounds of YES. Another perfect rendition
Exceptional … thanks for a walk down memory lane !!! 😎
I saw Yes at Bingley Hall Staffordshire England in the '70s, this brings the memories back, they were brilliant on the night and so are you guys thanks... Ged in the U.K.
The one with Donovan supporting? If so, I was there.
This rendition gives me chills on every inch of my body..I've been listening to and watching Yes since 1972, you guys are just amazing!! No words, Thank you..
09:25 the fist bump says it all about the rhythm section timing in that previous segment. Sublime throughout. I'm blown away - as usual!
Just amazing! I love you guys! The musicianship is stunning. Three different people playing Leslie guitar parts, three different keyboard players, steel guitar, and Andy and Richie killing the drums and bass. Good to see and hear Ann Marie. OMG the vocal production at 3:30. You NEVER disappoint.
The fact that it took this many instruments swapping in and out to cover this really show the musical genius of Steve Howe and Rick Wakeman (not to understate Chris Squires bass, Jon Anderson’s vocals and brufords drumming)
You're right. That was beautiful. I really liked the "coins and crosses Leslie effect" section too.
Love me some Ann Marie!
Love the respect that Richie, Andy A and Andy G have for each other. The way they were watching Andy G play the acoustic intro. It's awesome to have good friends!!!!!!
Nothing I don't absolutely LOVE about this! Bringing me back to being enveloped in beautiful melodic rhythms & sounds at The Spectrum in Philly. The fist bump # 9:26 between Andy & Richie proves how much you guys love it as well! Ann Marie & all of you are OUTSTANDING!!!
Breath taking
Making a cover of YES is like telling everyone, "Yeah, we are some of the best musicians in the world," but after covering the complete Close to the Edge album, there's no need to say anything more. You are magnificent!
May I add that the bass sounded spectacular? The entire band too of course.
Richie, the talent assembled in the band is breathtaking, thanks for sharing this awesome performance. I hate to single one person out from such a tight performance, but Ann Marie's vocals and styling are an absolute stand-out. (will head over to the tip jar next!).
no quiero pensar las horas y horas de ensayos para mejorar y dar un toque personal de calidad, de técnica, de sonido a todas las covers que interpretais e incluso puesta en escena para poder veros en la realidad....sois grandes!! Larga vida a The Band Geeks!!!
Completamente de acuerdo!
I can honestly say this brought tears to my eyes, this perfection can only be performed with talent and passion for the music. I also really envy the keyboardist's talent.
When some friends lent me the vinyl "Close to the Edge" I almost left it transparent from listening to it so much. I never listened to any other version than Yes, until now. Great, beautiful, spontaneous, fresh and more pop your interpretation. Greetings and thanks from Argentina, recent soccer world champion.
amazing!!
Oh, that's just fantastic!
Just wonderful! Thank you. I just wish Mr Howe would watch this and remember.
Geeks YES that was frickin awesome
Lots of people will see any Yes song that isn't on "The Yes Album", "Fragile", or "90125" and their eyes will glaze over. Hopefully this outstanding rendition will inspire a few more folks to go down the "Yes geek" rabbit hole. :)
Who likes Fragile and doesn't give a damn about Close to the Edge?
What? Fragile, Yes Album, and Close to the Edge are the big three and are usually grouped together. 😄
Agreed.
@@avunz125 Name one AOR single off "Close to the Edge"? Fragile has "Roundabout", "The Yes Album" has "Starship Trooper", 90125 has "Owner of a Lonely Heart", "It Can Happen", and "Leave It". This is about as deep as most folks get with Yes
90125 sucks.
RIP Alan White. I'm sure he would be proud of these guys.
WOW! Thank you! You took me back 40 years, when I was listening to Yes in my bedroom. What a great band. What a great cover!
Amazing job everybody. Awesome Synth Rob. That Roland was dead on. Drums,, Guitars and Richie on Bass was perfect. The singers voice really grows on you. Simply awesome.
Beautiful! Thank you, and appreciate the work that you all put into this. Wow! Applause!
Wow. Perfection at it's best. Another YES cover nailed, keep up the good work and keep YES alive, there are future generations that will be learning from your masterpieces. Thank you.
Great job everyone! Ann Marie is looking beautiful. And sounding beautiful too.
👍👍
Over 50 years listening to this..Many many time, hundreds, possibly more. And then Band Geek comes along and blows it out of the water. Thanks, love it. Gives me great pleasure and joy. And I can see you enjoy it too. Which is more than good.
Wow !! Im a long time Yes fan and this version was so nice to watch, amazing job !! Cheers from South America !!
I haven't heard this in quite a while! It brings backs some happy memories from my youth. Thanks for sharing!
Never a Yes geek but I can tell that it takes a composition of this complexity to really challenge this group and clearly they pulled it off
Made me get my copy of Close To The Edge ( which I Bought in 1975 when a friend recommended it) from my book case and hug it while lining to this..
Loved it, the drumming is absolutely brilliant. The sound and singing and production too - thank you !
Excelente trabajo, los felicito. Soy fanático de Yes y por eso a ustedes los encuentro muy buenos, gracias
I’ve been a progressive rock enthusiast for 40 years. I could flip a coin between Yes and Genesis as my all time favorite band. I’ve seen Genesis many times but I have never seen Yes live. This is the closest I will ever get. Thank you for bringing these amazing songs back to life. It’s surreal seeing you guys killing it playing these complicated arrangements so well. I didn’t think it was possible so I never searched for Yes covers. I was wrong. Based on a degree of difficulty this is easily the best cover I have ever heard.
I saw Genesis on the Selling England tour and in 1977 just before Steve Hackett left. While I have very few memories of the earlier concert, unfortunately, I have many moments from the '77 show burned into my memory. On the other hand, I've seen Yes over a dozen times from every decade of the past 50 years. Every show was fantastic and the audience were always leaping to their feet for standing ovations because the songs and the level of playing were so incredible. The only show that wasn't quite up to par was the last one I saw in 2014. Although Chris Squire was fantastic as usual and the set list consisted of The Yes Album, CTT.E, and GFTO, the absence of Jon Anderson kept it from being transcendent. Now that Squire is gone, I haven't seen them again.
High point: In 1976 at a Detroit show, Jon smiled and nodded at me in the first row as I was applauding his harp solo during Ritual.
Low point: In July of 1975, i was drunk from drinking wine in the hot sun all day while watching an outdoor festival that included Yes, Peter Frampton and Dave Mason. The crowd was huge, I caught one of the Frisbees that were zipping overhead all day and, without hesitation, flung it towards the stage. To my horror, I watched as it was lifted by a gust of wind and traveled much farther than I intended. In slow motion, I saw the Frisbee hit Steve Howe in the arm while he played acoustic guitar during his solo spot. The entire audience of over 100,000 booed me in unison.
Crying out loud here. Simply Amazing! Thank you for keeping Yes alive!
WOW you guys nailed it! You sound better than the current group of people parading around as Yes. Well played.👏👏👏
That depends on which "group of people" you're referring to. Steve H with that imposter Canadian kid singing is a travesty, however Jon A has another group of people, Wakeman included that are awesome!
I saw Yes in 2017 2nd Row. No complaints here. Don't know what your issue is. I'm 61 BTW, life long fan. A band like Yes is much more than its Individual Members. If you were a Real Musician you would Know That.
@@mrnobody3161 If your band mate is sick and cannot tour, I understand a TEMP replacement may be needed but when Jon was healed and not reunited with the band, well, I have a problem with that. 63 and yes, life long fan.
This a truly remarkable feat. Ann Marie’s beautiful and perfectly interpreted vocals, the rhythm section tighter than the pants they were wearing in the I Get Off video and as for Andy G, Rob and Phil, I just don’t know how you do it!
Brought me to tears. I needed a good cry. Thank you. All of you
Glad I wasn't the only one :-)
@@drkmriggs Yea man. This tune always wrings me out!
YESS!!!! I love this shit! my favourite Yes choon! Cheers!!!
