Oh come on now you two. What if someone offered you the original signed (somehow) sealed copy of the Prince's Black Album in full mint condition? Really?
Just over Paul’s right shoulder inside the trunk is written the date it was pressed. You may have to use a magnifying glass. Story goes, three ladies on the assembly had to hand write the date. Be careful, Mondays and Fridays dates can be a bit messy. I’ve never seen it, but I read online that once the pressing plants had to work on a Saturday (snow prevented the plant from being open one Wednesday) and those are EXTREMELY RARE. I seen them sale for $20,000.00 plus online. Great find!
Hey, If it was a grail of yours. Go for it. What ever makes you happy man. Good for you. I got one of my grails this last week. So be happy and enjoy your album !!! Rock on man !
Have just watched the real one so I'm catching up with this one. Enjoyed all the little 'tells' you put in there, particularly when you pulled it out of the sleeve ! Great stuff Robert.
Love the joke, but that is a beautiful copy. And those purple Capitols usually sound better than the originals (lots of Wally Traugott cuts, IIRC). The part at 2:45 was the real treat for us regulars.
Thanks! Seriously, some of the later purple label pressings of "Yesterday and Today" sound better because the fake stereo tracks have been replaced by true stereo mixes.
Damn, that means I got ripped off too then, the same guy you bought your "butcher" cover from sold me a copy of "Pet Sounds" and told me the "butcher" cover was underneath that one. And I had to pay 1600 dollars for mine. Let the peeling begin
Happy April 1st, Robert! I don't know a whole lot about Beatles collectibles, but I do know (as you do too, throughout this tongue-in-cheek presentation) that the red seal on that album means it's a much later release than the butcher cover. But I do have to admit to paying a few hundred dollars on Ebay for a sealed 'early' Beatles album when in fact I have since found it to be a later release. Ouch. Buyer beware!
So in 1980 I walked into a new wave-ish resale shop in east Dearborn, Michigan. On the wall this album in a glass case. They were asking $250.00 I was back in the store a couple weeks later and it had sold for $225.00. Considering inflation that $225 today would be $900. However, you have to consider the rainy factor because they were much more available in 1980. That factor would be about 50%, if not more. So value in today's money is $1,350.00.
Those who criticize is probably because they don’t know! $1,000 for that is a great deal since they sell all day for 3 times that. Great find mate! Congratulations! 🎊🎉🍾🎈
I dont like spending a lot on records either. I have only been collecting vintlyl for listening purposes for a year. Most ive spent so far is $55 for a reissue but it was cheaper then ordering from Germany for $80 because most stores are sold out in US. You owe no explanation for spending $1000 on a record. Its your hobby and you got a grail so be happy. Everyone can pound sand lol. Only reason Id want that record is to find it cheap in wild to flip to get all the other albums i need which is many. There's quite a few Grateful Dead live releases that are all pretty pricey and a few can add up to $1000 pretty quickly. I am mostly ignoring them for now because i feel like im not going to find them in the wild for cheap. If i do i will die happy lol. Its like something to collect when i have all the regular albums i like from all the bands i like which is many. Once those are completelu, then the GD live collection will be worked on. I just realized you tricked me. 😮😮😮
I have a Apple label, yesterday and today, from 66, very rare indeed, considering they hadn’t thought up that label until 68, not peeled yet, very expensive, but when you know your collectibles like me, you pay what you need to pay 💰 😅
Believe it or not, there is a Yesterday And Today reissue that is a big deal, though. The Red target Capitol is extremely scarce. Not quite as scarce as the Revolver Red target, but,up there, definitely.
Really!Speaking for myself I buy to listen not to profit.Thats also why I hate what record store day has turned into. People rushing in like it's black Friday to scoop up all exclusives just sell on eBay or discogs 😢
Don't let the jealous naysayers get to you, Robert. I suffered similar ridicule when I told people that I paid almost as much for an original 1966-release CD (cutout-punched, but still in wrap!) of this same covered-butcher album from what very well might be that very same guy in the gas station parking lot (he was driving an orange 1978 Chevy Nova, right?).
There's an ultra-rare Zappa 45 that's far rarer than the butcher cover. Zappa covered PF's "Several Species of Small Animals Grooving in a Cave with a Pict" as "Several Feces of Young Girls Grooving in a Stall with a Janitor". Happy flush...er, I mean hunting!
I bought one in Alaska for 350 and no tax. The red badge makes me concerned. It looks like a later version. The number on the back will tell you hopefully it was made in Jacksonville I think it should be a 6.
I got the White Album that's actually the Purple Album. They made only a few of them. You can only tell that it's authentic by looking at it through a purple filter.
Got me good wth this one! Was wondering why Johnny Cougar was back there! And I was immediately more seriously wondering how much my copy (not a butcher's cover but old with the sgt. Pepper's misprint on the label is worth)
That's a nice pick up, but I think I've got yours trumped.I just picked up some ocean front property in Arizona. And they even threw the gold gate in free.I got it from George Strait.
Last time I found one it had a copy of Pet Sounds in it. Of course I didn't realize this until I got home. So now I just have the cover pinned up on the wall above my fireplace. Looks awesome. And always a conversation piece. That's until we get sick of talking about it. Takes about 1 minute for that to happen.
I actually rolled the dice and bought a SEALED copy one of these on eBay for $100- turns out the joke was on me as when I peeled back the outer sleeve I saw the ugly mug of Andy Williams staring back at me from underneath.
Late purple Capitol label means it could be one of the final late 1980’s pressing runs where they accidentally used the original mono tape . I think its CLJ catalogue number without checking my collection
Not fair. Fooled me till I saw the cover and knew it wasn’t. lol. By the way I have 2nd and 3rd state and I paid up for them and will never leave my collection except by confiscation, catastrophe or my demise
Lucky for you Robert, like Superman, I possess X-Ray vision and from my screen I can clearly see that underneath the album pic is actually the cover of Herb Alpert & The Tijuana Brass' Whipped Cream & Other Delights. The same thing happened to me when I bought the same album from Bob's Country Bunker Gas and Grille Vinyl Boutique.
Absolutely you did get ripped off. Or was this just a put on. No copy of the Butcher cover is underneath a reissue like that one with the Gold Certification Award logo.
The fact that there's the gold record stamp on the front cover, eliminates it from being a butcher cover. However, about 15 years ago I found a second state ex-mt stereo butcher cover in a second hand store and paid a whopping $1 for it, and that's no April Fools joke.
Happy April Fools Day Robert, I'd only pay $1000.00 for the ultra rare Baker cover edition signed by 5 Beatles (including Jimmie Nicol). So far no copies have been found to exist.
Oops. I peeled my copy and there wasn't anything under it. Just more cardboard. I should have noticed the Gold Record Award seal before I ruined it. Funny video!
Wow, you even got the specialized Sound Warehouse version haha 👍🤔👍 Remember how John, Paul, George, and Ringo all stood in front of Sound Warehouse to sign only one copy for each of the first 100 people. By the way, I've got some beautiful mountainous oceanfront property here in Fort Worth for sale. 1,000 acres or maybe an even trade for your Butcher Cover LP 🙄😁 Have a great AF day Robert... Brian in Fort Worth 🎶
As soon as I saw the Gold Record Stamp I knew I'd been had. Good one, RF.
Great April's fools day video! But seriously there isn't a record ever made that i would spend $1000 dollars for.

Dang !!! Robert.. JUST Realized I Have One As Well!!!! Such A Glorious Day!!!!!!
Nice grail find! The rare one of a kind purple Capitol label from 1966, years before they actually pressed purple labels.
Technically, the had purple labels in the 1950's, too. lol
@@RobertFithen Youre right! Actually , I have an old Capitol 78 with a purple label of Mel Blanc doing WB cartoon voices.

Good one Robert! Thanks for the laughs!
Sunshine & Unicorns 😂 Cool name for your next psych album Robert 😉

Honestly, it was fairly clear because the RIAA stickers came from an era well after the Butcher era. So unless it is a bootlegg, there's no way.
You can almost see Ringo’s black shirt, so it has to be real. Love it!
While pointing at the wrong spot on the cover. lol
