If you’re collecting records because you think they’ll increase in value, you should rethink your strategy. Or try buying the S&P 500. Frankly, it would be great if all records collapsed in value - then people who simply enjoy listening to them would find it way more affordable.
This is so funny. What a great subject to bring up. It reminds me so much of my own collection. Some of the best stuff I own is endlessly worth FO. Its unbelievable! (check out No Destinstion by The Blackbirds. A forgotten mod group from Southern Germany. Its totally cheezy but totally brilliant at the same time - U.K. Saga record from 1968 - budget label mud against the wall release - fabulous!). I honestly think that all the records you feature here will eventually have their day. As a very good friend of mine once said - "if you like it, you can guarantee that someone else out there does too". Many thanks Robert...

Friend of mine introduced me to Joy Division when I met him in 1982. Before I met him,I had only vaguely heard of them because they were right next to Joy Of Cooking in the stacks. I still don't know what Joy Of Cooking sound like and I'm okay with it. I'm 60 and really miss the days when lps ruled. Love your site. It's fun.
This is another one of your top 5 videos! A great counterpart to your most valuable records video, which I also enjoyed. But I guess what matters is that these are records that YOU enjoy listening, appreciate their pop-cultural relevance. I really hope you weren't investing in a retirement plan! :D
Thanks!! I also made a follow up to that video called "Most valuable according to.... me" where I actually talk about records in my collection that aren't worth much, but mean a lot to me.
Hi Robert Crazily entertaining video. To be honest, I would just love to see some of that stuff here in the UK let alone what I would have to pay for them ! One mans' trash is another mans' gold etc... Hope you're keeping well.
Thanks for giving me a good laugh today. Fantastic video and I love the topic. I was more like your roommate, buying stuff that has typically increased in value over the years, but I have also bought my share of "who cares?" vinyl, only the majority of mine are bands that were super-obscure and just never gained a following. I have posted a lot of videos on my own channel about stuff that I was stoked to find at the time, then I make a video of it, with sound clips even, and maybe 10 people will watch it. Maybe I should make a "who cares?" video too! Anyway, great stuff, you have a new subscriber.
Great video Robert! I picked up a copy of Hard Labor this weekend. The copy I found had the manila filing folder that covers up the action on the front cover, which gives you the impression that this record may house some really rare, contraband, clandestine, perhaps shocking imagery, music or more... Nope! Nobody cares! At $5 I paid way too much for it!
Great video love that uriah heep and that elton john is really rare found my copy in flea market during my holiday visiting my parents in South Eastern British Columbia one or two songs show up on his 11 17 70 live album gave up on elo after the discovery lp they had turned into what the moody blues were doing
I love this video! Very entertaining. Actually alot of new reissues are way more expensive or valuable than the OG. The greedy labels figured out how to squeeze more cash from us lol. This video is great tho. Good to see that you also collect whatever you like to play regardless of monetary value! And Thriller a grail?? Hahah. I got doubles back in the 90s in the dollar bins.
You and I have the same exact experiences...I bought the same LPs too...Cat Mother, Joy of Cooking, Frantic, Forum Quorum, etc...but not to worry...as ridiculously as expensive as every other vinyl LP is now, these are bound to increase in value. We just need to wait another 40 years.
Seems that most people with vinyl blogs talk about their rare records and how valuable they are. But not you. You're like the Rodney Dangerfield of the vinyl community. Kind of refreshing, actually.
@@RobertFithen Ironically enough, I just finished watching your "My top ten most valuable vinyl albums." So maybe you're just a LITTLE like Rodney Dangerfield. By the way, supposedly members of Joy Division helped assemble the Durutti Column album packaging.
"Rare but who cares?" LOL! Well said, loved the video. I've been collecting for over fifty years and have most of the LPs you show here. Some great records!
I always wonder if I'm only person who listens to albums like Tales from Topographic Oceans (YES) nobody makes epic 2 album sets like that anymore. The themes and the musical journey is amazing. Rick Beato did a video on "The greatest music never heard" check it out.
So years ago I had the Moms Apple Pie 'vagina' cover and I thought "My God I'm sitting on millions, how could they get away with this" - only to find out the really rare one was the 2nd censored cover with the wire fence and 2 cops peering through the window. By the time I got that one, nobody cared. Threw them both out. - Great video! - Jose'
This was a fun video. We’ve all been there but it’s always our own fault. We have broken the first rule of record collecting. Buy what you love, love what you buy. But as I’m not a Dead fan really I gotta say I like these guys better!
Funny thing about most of those records is they were pressed in pretty large numbers so they're mostly not rare per se. They are however packaged & designed in interesting ways which makes them interesting. Going back to your friend yeah he was picking up iconic sellable later era stuff, but I'd rather listen to the records you just showed!
Frigid Pink was so good that Led Zeppelin opened for THEM. Well, both bands had started about the same time, Zeppelin still being unknown, and this happened in Detroit which was Frigid Pink's home turf.

Hey man. You're right on with those picks. The only ones that some people may get upset over would be Rumours, Thriller, and Elvis ( not me !). Mom's apple pie. Came up on youtube one night so I gave it a listen. Got on cd and vinyl and picked up mom's apple pie #2 on vinyl as well. Both are real good

Some of these newer reissues done by AP and MoFi cut using the master tape sound amazing and blow me away. Comes at a cost but well worth it
