I don't think Auston is accurate about the taxes. Typically you have to lie or do shady things when working abroad. Either you are not reporting your income accurately, you are lieing to your employer and saying you are still in the states when you are actually abroad, or working in another country while on a toursit visa. If you work in another country and live in another country you should be paying them taxes.
I keep hearing people talking about working abroad and not telling their bosses. But can't the IRS review your passport entry stamps? It would be difficult explaining to the IRS how you made taxable income from another country filing on a 1040 without a 2555. I thought about it, working tele, but the risk of getting caught with a professional license is a deal breaker.

1) Disadvantage number one - if you're a US citizen you have to pay income tax on any income you generate over 100K.
