  • To fix the external mic not recording on the Asus laptop with realtek audio solution, i show as to what setting needs to be set for it to start working. Very easy and quick fix.
Disclaimer: This video is not for folks who are looking for advanced level solution for their issue. My laptop is pretty new (few days old) and i was like why isn't my mic working, so it's like a noob tryna tinker around. Sometimes even tiny problems seems big and worrysome, so that's my thought process behind making this video.

Thank you so much mate! All other guides gave run-of-the-mill nonsense troubleshooting steps. My new headset mic was not being recognized. This simple step worked. Liked and subbed.

Bought a USB adapter because my external mic "wasn't working" on my ASUS ROG FLOW laptop, even though the external mic works fine on my other devices. But it still didn't work. BUT THIS GUIDE FIXED MY PROBLEM WITHOUT EVEN USING THE ADAPTER!! Thank you so much!!

First off - thank you for the video. I have an ASUS UX430U. I plugged a VidPro XM-55 condenser microphone into the headset/microphone port as you suggested and chose "headset". Yes, the microphone worked but it was no different than the default Realtek microphone that's a part of the laptop. And when I tried to select a microphone with the external mic plugged in, there were no additional selections. What I think is happening is that my external mic is not being recognized at all, and although "the microphone worked", it wasn't the external microphone but the built in one that was working. I read somewhere on Google that condenser are not ordinarily able to work on a PC. So it begs the question - when you say your microphone worked, how do you know it wasn't the default built in microphone working instead of the external mic?

I'm in a similar situation to you. Did you find a fix?

@@mequill9977 Actually, I think I did find a fix by going back and following this video but in a different way than I did in my original comments above. First, I plugged the VidPro XM-55 condenser microphone into the headset/microphone port as suggested. Then I clicked on the little search icon (magnifying glass) on the bottom left of the taskbar. I then searched for the Realtek Audio Manager app for the default microphone. When it came up, it looked like a little burnt orange speaker. Then I clicked on the app icon. A little popup box appeared and allowed me to make a selection of a) Mic In, b) Headphone, c) Speaker Out, and d) Headset. I chose headset. Then I went and just used the external VidPro XM-55 condenser microphone without having to select anything else.
I did a test without plugging in anything (to represent the default mic) versus using the process above and there seemed to be an appropriate difference. So maybe you should try the same. If you don't have Realtek as your default driver, then see what comes up and proceed in the same fashion as best you can.
Note: when I followed the process above, there was also a tab in the overall Realtek Audio Manager for the actual Microphone. I didn't even choose this and completely stayed away from it. All I wanted to do was to make sure that when I plugged in the external VidPro XM-55 condenser microphone, it would work.
Hope this helps - good luck.

We have a Asus ROG Strix G17 which is the 2022 model with rtx 3050. It is detecting the external mic without any issues but there is a crackling buzzing noise from the mic which is heard by others over Google meet. I have seen that this same crackling is in Whatsapp and other applications as well. This sound is also present in my internal mic. Can't find any fix as of now.

What audio driver does your laptop has? If it's realtek like my laptop's, then the settings will be same but maybe there will be minor changes here and there. Otherwise if there's another audio driver software installed in your laptop by oem (let's say Dolby), then go to that particular sound software's setting and check whether it has mic options.

That's weird. You can do one thing. Go to the official Asus website and check what audio software it has to manage your particular laptop model's audio. Then tinker around with that.
