Joy, or relief. I guess both.
"You are our mission!" one of the best lines in film.
Ben Z gave me chills
Just realized that marine is General Zod from Man of Steel
"We're not leaving you buddy we're Marines, you are our Mission." Damn, I don't think I've heard a more comfurting sentence in a movie or irl.

Beautifully delivered by Michael Shannon.
Staff Sgt. Karnes: "We're not going anywhere, buddy we're Marines. You are our mission."
Hands down the best line in the entire movie!
NYG1991 Yup!!!! that part smh got me teary eyed outta! the whole movie! but your right! it is the best line in the entire movie!
+NYG1991 When John's wife walks up to him in the hospital and he says "You.. kept me... alive" That line was right up there with this
+NYG1991 Came here to say this!
That line made me want to be a marine
+Rene Barajas Never too late to join up.
Imagine how many people heard others getting rescue but had no way of bringing attention to themselves... that thought is just horrible.
That Actually hit me thinking that could've been what happened
😢
This is both sad but also might help you feel a little better about this idea. The main reason these officers survived was because they were on the base level of the building they were in and ran into the elevator shaft (the most structurally sound part of the building). Almost everyone else would have been killed almost instantly in the collapse either from falling or being crushed by debris. Seeing as only 20 people were pulled out alive, and they were numbers 18 and 19, I doubt many would have heard that. It doesn't make the passing of those who were killed any less sad, but more than likely their deaths were mercifully swift. I hope this helps.
My roommate was trying to identify remains. From what she saw, there were very few people alive. These men got to the perfect place.
Yes, it's crazy how a government can do this to it's own people
Karnes was actually a former marine at this time but when this happened, he left his office, stopped at a barbershop for a crewcut, put on his camis and went to the wreckage site to do his part. After this, he re-enlisted in the marines. What a guy!
@@lopanreturns7085 That's what I read.
@@alexanderpytko5394 you got it right. 100% fact. The real Karnes did not want to be apart of the film because he didn't approve of what Oliver Stone said about President Bush and the war. Respect for Stone still keeping a small part of his story in the movie.
@@lopanreturns7085 He's not talking about the actor in the movie he's literally talking about the real life guy the character is based on. Why is that so hard to believe? As a marine they are ready at all times to drop what they're doing grab their uniform and go help people in anyway they can. That's what they're trained to do and they love doing it.
Once a Marine, Always a Marine
Semper Fidelis!!
So he just fell for the government's destruction and terror overseas, respect to the guy, he ain't smart
"We are the Marines, You are out mission". I've never been more proud to be an American.
Were you proud of the million or more people your country killed in Iraq and Afghanistan?
Jack Fahy million? Lol
@@jackfahy2283 Only around 200,000 civilians died in Iraq and Afghanistan combined. Still horrible, but making ridiculous exaggerations invalidates your point.
Jack Fahy yes
@@jackfahy2283 if we weren't there things would be even worse. We help when we shouldn't but all these other countries sit there and watch these terrible things happen. Not to mention they attacked us on our soil, killed mother's father's brothers sisters friends family and for what? We avenged our fallen fellow Americans. Those same men and women across the sea who go out everyday and fight for your freedom to sit behind your phone and make ridiculous comments like these ensure that you can say what you feel, even if it's as pitiful as this. Are you that dimwitted you don't understand how many more attacks could've happened if we didn't go to war and show other countries that we are not afraid, that we will not lay down and let our enemies destroy families and our homes. How's the weather atop your ivory tower?
I'm a Marine Sgt and that part gets me every time. That's exactly what I would have done. That's what a Real Marine does. I'll never forget when President Bush said, "If you have a uniform get it ready cause what they did wasn't an act of terrorism, it was an act of war.".
Thank you
Thank you
Oorah, Marine. Thanks.
Thank you
thank you for your service.. if you dont mind, id like to have a beer with you and have you talk my ear off with awesome stories. o/
I almost started to cry at this part in the movie
yep
I cried when John was reunited with his wife and said to her, "You kept me alive."
me too🥲
I cry all the time
“We’re not leaving. WE ARE MARINES! You are our mission!”
Hearing that while being buried beneath the WTC for 18 hours must be the biggest comfort one can imagine!
Makes you realize they were literally in a warzone at that moment
“We are Marines you are our mission”
Omg
That was so beautiful
The music also made it epic
Marines are badasses, they don't quit. They don't give up.
I mean I am a bit late but , they are given hard training , there trained for it . They won’t give up as they were trained to fight in the hardest of situations and that they have fought some of the hardest battles that the USA has ever fought. They were just doing as they were told and trained , just like any normal human
@@sarahshaw7315 Same thing I would have done when I was in the Air Force.
Just like the Spartans
Yea I like the movie tears of the sun they never gave up there mission still protected those people but although I forgot they aint marine there navy :P

Y’all don’t understand how much I sobbed after he said “we aren’t leaving you buddy, we’re marines, you are our mission”. The smile on Wills face, his laugh, just got me down to tears.
1:27, “We’re not leaving you buddy we’re marines. You are our mission.” That line made me so happy I could cry. It made me so happy when will was really happy to be rescued, his laugh and when he said that’s great, made me so happy that I wanna cry. 9/11 will always be a day of remembrance. 🇺🇸
Nowadays The Line Would Be "What Is Your Gender? Are You Republican? Are You White? Sorry You Get Rescued LAST!" Sad But True.
When the marine hears the noise his eyes tells it all WE HEAR YOU ALWAYS GETS ME 😭😭 GOD BLESS THE RESCUERS AND THE MARINES!!!!
Our country may be divided by opinions and beliefs but at the end of the day we are all red blooded Americans brothers sisters husband and wives and we stand for one another we fight for one another we side for one another this movie how in the biggest crisis that hit America we pulled together as a nation as people and I so desperately wish we could all get back to how this used to be I am so proud of the men and women that have kept our country safe america is the definition of struggling but as long as we have each other we make it out ok
Will Jimeno and John McLaughlin, two great men who vowed to protect and serve, went into the World Trade Center that day without regard for their lives. God gave them a gift, to be able to help people. Though they're long retired, God helped them to survive the deadliest act of terrorism in history. I'm sure that wherever they are now, and whatever they're doing, they're doing it as selflessly, if not more so, than what they did on that day 14 years ago.
+Sean Brower amen to that I mean I would do the same thing they did and I honesty have to say I know my girlfriend would be scared but she also knows the risk of the job I want to do and knows if I had to do it I would but your right they r two role models of mine and I love this movie
they are real people.
@@realEmoSedillo yes also the marine that found them was an African american marine why they changed the color I have no idea . sad real . but they also did that with the medal of honor marine that captured over 100 Japanese prisoners he was a Mexican american and played by a white man in the movie

BTW, the real McLaughlin and Jimeno were in the movie at the end.

My mom and dad passed the same day when she was bringing him food, he was in the north tower, the 1st plane hit as she was going up the elevator and called me and told me to call my aunt, she said she loves me and that's the last thing I've ever heard from her, she nor my dad made it out alive 😢 RIH I love both of you

I can’t imagine all that horror these two policemen have been through. Imagine being trapped in rubbles for hours and fearing you won’t be able to make it out alive. Yet, these two men found the courage to survive. I’m literally so thankful that these two policemen are alive today. And God bless those two marines who found them.
God rest all the police and firemen and women that didn’t make it through that day. The death toll is still rising from that terrifying day. Not just first responders and emergency services personnel, but any man woman or child that was there and got exposure to debris and smoke clouds, they are dying from cancer and other poisonous materials from the building smoke clouds. its terrible.
General Zod saves the day!

The fact that Karnes answers immidietely “we’re marines”, would just instantly give hope and safety to any American.
I can’t imagine any better answer when I’m buried under a mountain of rubble. That must have sounded like “I’m superman” to those last survivors. Like, you can relax. There are men here who will do anything to rescue you, and have the strength to so.

You ain't the only one
Ironically, your username is ‘smiles forever’.
The music is fantastically scored to the scene; it's open-spaced intervals create a poignant, yet very warm feeling. The strings do well for creating the heart-felt moments. Craig Armstrong did a great job scoring this film.
GOD BLESS THE MARINES!
Alexander Dellorto that’s nice
Semper Fidelis to all the Marines

Yes
"We're not leaving ya buddy, we're MARINES, you-are-our-MISSION!"
Dave Karnes was already a hero before he decided to answer the call. The natural high he must have felt after finding these 2 men was reward enough. What Dave Karnes did was so very beautiful.
This is why the marines are my favorite branch of the military, well that and halo

“We’re not leaving here buddy we’re marines”
This is the best part of the film in my opinion. It was such a happy moment. I almost cried at the reaction of the cop when Dave Karnes said "buddy we're not gonna leave, we're MARINES, you ARE our mission!" This should make any American proud. I also loved how he just walked away once he realized that help was there and taking care of it. He didn't care about recognition. So what if the real Karnes was black, skin color was all GRAY that day. (literally and figuratively)

this made me almost cry my granddads freinds had a freind who had a wife on 9/11 it was her birthday she worked in twin towers and on that exact day she went to her job on her birthday and.... she died I don't know her but still I was relly sad to hear that from my granddad
It's funny that the guy in the con ed hat is actually black in real life, but Oliver Stone didn't know that until the filming of his scenes were done.
The soundtrack at specifically the "you are our mission" part and Will laughing is just wonderful.
This movie made cry so much

when he starts laughing- it just shows how painful that would of been
"We're not going anywhere. You are our mission!"
I teared up. Just imagine being in a situation such as this, with no hope, and still trying to find some hope. Strugling. Fighting. And then, finally, someone reassures you that you won't die, you will get out alive. You won't be abandoned. This line is so powerful.

God Bless the Marines, a scene like this reminds me what Demi Moore character said in A Few Good Men after when she was ask "Why do you like them so much... "Because they stand on a wall and say, "Nothing's going to hurt you tonight, not on my watch."
In 2003, John and Will went to Okinawa to present two commemorative flags to the Marines stationed there. Unfortunately they lost their funding days before the trip. Staff Sgt Karnes who was the one who saved them that day and happened to be one of the marines stationed in Okinawa at the time, decided to come to their rescue again and paid for the trip with his credit card. This man is honoring the Marines all the way.

Years later this scene still brings me to tears.. US Army Soldier 25 years retired. I've said it a million times, God Bless the Marines.

I'm not an emotional person but this scene makes me cry every time.
I’m 25 y/o and probably the last birth year or so (1994) that will vividly remember 9/11 as a kid. This film is SO important to show our future generations what happened on that day all the way back in 2001. And that there were a few (very few) positives to come out of that day. This film is one of my all time favorites and as I got older really helped me emotionally connect with what happened that day and the 3,000 innocent people we lost, along with thousands that continue to die from the toxins released.
Gets me every time!!
God bless America! I love this contry!
I'm watching the movie now, and when I heard: "We're not leaving you buddy, we are marines, you are our mission!" That sent a tsunami of emotions down my spine!
