This guy Mitch is fucking awesome -- I've watched a few of his interviews so far and every single time he asks very in depth intelligent questions; you won't find an interview like this in Rolling Stone or even Guitar World magazine -- he actually listens to their music and even asks them about recording techniques, writing, playing style...I wish I worked at Sweetwater!
Tosin Abasi and Animals as Leaders are what happens when you are an open minded musician. Instead of just being locked into one genre, explore them all!
very true. Matt went to berklee and studied ALOT more sub genres than i thought. he did stuff like Afro cuban, jazz, swing, latin, and all that stuff. and basically he just incorporates all those styles into his playing. it's crazy how amazing he is
I secretly believe Tosin is a highly intelligent robot sent from the future to warn us of our impending doom at the hands of ourselves....yeah i dunno either.
That Ibanez man... 5 amazing pickups, nothing else is going to give you that beautiful sound. I've been out of the guitar scene for over 10 years and that shit was something else
Too many interviewers keep asking Tosin the same questions over and over, I think they need to do their research and find out what he's already been asked, that way they can come up with something new. I swear this is probably 5th time I've heard him answer about 70% of those questions over again. :(
Maybe I haven't found the section of youtube that shows me Tosin's interviews that you're seeing because I have a hard time finding more and I've heard only one of those questions before
Henry Joseph I'm just a Tosin fanboy who google's for content about the band. They've had interviews that aren't just youtube and I check those out too.
While these all may be obvious questions for die-hard fans, remember that some people may just now be discovering him and want these kinds of questions answered.
Congrats to the interviewer for doing an awesome job, even though some of the questions have been covered before he has a cool attitude and knows how to listen.
Jay Mazella ...You respect someone because he plays the guitar and skates? Everyone should have mutual respect for each other, but you need to get your priorities straight.
No idea what leads you to believe to I don't already respect those around me; it seems that you, the one looking for reason to argue where none exists, need get your own priorities straight.
Jay Mazella I never said that you don't respect others - it was a disclaimer about respect. If rolling around and playing a musical instrument are the reasons why you respect someone, you need stop being a little boy and grow up. Admiration should not be confused with respect.
Right. Well it seems to me that you have little to no grasp on what the concept of 'respect' entails, so despite your efforts here I'm going to just disregard what you've said to me and not apply it to my life in any way.
Tosin, glad to see your doing so well and an excellent musician at that. Don't know if u recall but I was the bassist for P.S.I. back in the day even though somewhat short lived while you were there. Awesome to see you!!
its rare to see him touch on reflux, at all. i absolutely love that band and that album they did is one of the pinnacles of extreme metal. more people really should look into their album. it was as technical as metal can get while still being musical
Limitations in the band he played with before his solo project. There were certain grounds he couldn't cover as they would be too outlandish for their respective style of music.
He's obviously an intelligent and likeable man and a complete genius musician, but his habit of peppering his remarks with "like", as if he were some millennial Valley Girl is maddening.
seraph127 I think it is more of a place holder, similar to the terms ‘um’ and ‘uh’. This isn’t scripted, it must be difficult to keep speaking off the top of your head (sorry, if I find out this is scripted, then I am wrong and I apologize in advance’

my thoughts exactly

Interviewer: Appreciate you being here
Tosin: I know
LOL what a boss
+Mike Bassil lol i think he might have said "right on"
LOL, i think he said "right on", but i WISH he said "i know"
I had to rewind because I thought I heard the same thing at first lol
Look at Tosin's face at 0:42 when he calls him a virtuoso. ;)
He's rushing it at the beginning... sloppy.
Turns out that James LaBrie's father is an awesome interviewer!
that was a good one hahaha
you just made my day ahahahaha
hilarious!
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
Felipe Archangelo LMAO😂😂
Tosin Abasi is easily my favorite guitarist of this day.
"I used to play the clarinet"
_oh_
he's secretly squidward
Tosin, or the interviewer?
LordTatters did u watch even two minutes of the interview?
ShadowMassacr13 dude, I want to move from clarinet to this
I was in stitches when he said "really opens up our horizons, yeah yeah, changing the face of music".
Alright internet, get to work. I want Abasi clarinet footage STAT!
Tosin is one classy and intelligent man. Now I'm not gay but...
I'm in love with this guy- he's so talented!
What a great interviewer. Well researched, guides tosin with open questions.
I secretly believe Tosin is a highly intelligent robot sent from the future to warn us of our impending doom at the hands of ourselves....yeah i dunno either.
Tosin's moisturizing game is on point.
apedosmil coconut oil

Lol, I could have answered just about all of those interview questions.
Wow, I've never thought of that...thanks for the idea
I'm pretty sure that's how all interviews for any musician go...
While these all may be obvious questions for die-hard fans, remember that some people may just now be discovering him and want these kinds of questions answered.
Best interviewer I've heard in a while. Props.
Congrats to the interviewer for doing an awesome job, even though some of the questions have been covered before he has a cool attitude and knows how to listen.
Man, such an amazing interview
REALLY GOOD INTERVIEW.
Really nice interview
Excellent interview.
He used to skate. Can this guy command any MORE respect from me?
Jay Mazella ...You respect someone because he plays the guitar and skates? Everyone should have mutual respect for each other, but you need to get your priorities straight.

+EliteXtasy For a guy that insists on starting needless arguments, your insults are just God-awful. "Grow up, kid".. projecting much? ;}
Tosin, glad to see your doing so well and an excellent musician at that. Don't know if u recall but I was the bassist for P.S.I. back in the day even though somewhat short lived while you were there. Awesome to see you!!
Dude, would love to hear some recordings from psi if there are any!
The Outro thing Tosin does is so great
The song is Modern Meat. I'm sure you know that by now though lol
Cheers bro
Man I wish there was a full version of Tosin playing Soraya. That's probably my favorite song from the first album
you gotta love this guy!
"I appreciate you being here"
"I know" lol
Haha. He said right on.
oooh haha my mistake :)
Travis Sayler I like to think he said "I know"
Haha ya that would be funny
Tosin gives such good vibes.
fuccc i love him so much
like can you be any more amazing???
Awesome interview
Great interview!
he is using cheats called fasthands.exe/64bit
report him for hacks.
Love this guy, his passion definatly shines thru! =)
7:35 I love this response
Ahh he's pretty dreamy
Off the hook incredible player
its rare to see him touch on reflux, at all. i absolutely love that band and that album they did is one of the pinnacles of extreme metal. more people really should look into their album. it was as technical as metal can get while still being musical
I also started at my buddies house learning the riff to 'One ' 😩😆
I wish he would say that some of the classical influence stems from Javiers' background.
Interviewer: Thanks for coming in man,
Tosin: Thanks for having me
Interviewer: We appreciate you being here
Tosin: I KNOW!
Hahaha badass!
Haha, I think he said "Right on". xD
Periphery Interview next!!!
Good man. Black americans need more men like him in the media for sure. /14/
What is the beginning song??
Or soundtrack
The one Tosin is playing? That would be Soraya off of their eponymous album
Which Meshuggah album is he talking about?
Catch 33 I think.
*****
That's a good one.
Ethan Rose
I thought they used downtuned 7s on Nothing.
Thnx!
what song was Tosin playing at the end?
Modern Meat, off of their first album
thanks!
TOSIN! YEEAAAA
"aware of his limitations." What limitations?! That guy could play anything against a wall.
Limitations in the band he played with before his solo project. There were certain grounds he couldn't cover as they would be too outlandish for their respective style of music.
+Cheesy Cola Everyone has limitations. Knowing them and working on them is the only way to keep improving.
It seems like most of these questions are redundant now.
"I didn't know if I could make compelling music without the aid of vocals..."
Then makes some of the most compelling music without the aid of vocals lmao
Damn. His friend can actually say he taught Tosin Abasi. :p
I would get the Tam if I could afford it. But, if I get enough cash, I'll be buying an S series 8
Did you ever get one?
Hey this guy must sing too
count 'like'
Oh oops I just ruined this video for you.
Pause at 6:19 lol
""like"" .........
fuckk english! I'll have to learn English
Ah this guy is alright I guess.
Not really the best example of tosin's playing at the end. Stil nice tho
He's obviously an intelligent and likeable man and a complete genius musician, but his habit of peppering his remarks with "like", as if he were some millennial Valley Girl is maddening.

hhmmm... hhhmmm...
The way he plays genuinely annoys me.
Cuz its way better than us, I feel you
his lips are chapped that is all, great music though hahaha
Suicmez is better and more muscular.
Amazing interview
