Rebecca Dirks is by far the best host of the Premier guitar Rig rundowns! From a fans point of view and mine I feel like she knows her stuff and always asks the right questions unlike some of the other goofy hosts on this channel. I heard she is no longer w premier guitar and if that is true that is a total bummer because I really enjoy her videos more then the other hosts on the Rig Rundown!
Logan Wilder As a first-time viewer of this channel, I definitely have to agree. She seriously impressed me with her questions and knowledge of those setups. You can tell that she knows what's up.
I met Tosin this past summer when he was touring with Conquering Dystopia. I met Jeff as well. Both super nice guys and took the time to have a conversation with us.
Tosin is a helluva player, and an insanely nice guy. It's refreshing to see someone who possesses such a high level of both skill & knowledge remain ever humble, and emotionally grounded. Abasi is just a glimpse at where the future of guitar is headed. It's slowly becoming a quasi-recombinant of guitar and bass styles. With FX technology soaring, it nearly makes the guitar's sonic, and creative possibilities endless.
久另蔡 I actually don't think that happened. Now that I've watched it again, looks like they did the pick thing last, but cut into the middle of the video, then they had to get back to Rebecca to conclude Javier's section. So it would have gone directly from ruclips.net/video/u5tDN2FVjOM/видео.html to the link you posted. Weird, eh?
Finally, they talk about how they use the fractal. Thank-you PG. Telling someone you use the fractal says almost nothing. Knowing what amps and settings they use within the unit is way better.
Rebecca Dirks! She was the best interviewer this show ever had. They should just pay her whatever she wants to come back and Make Rigrundown Great Again!!
Their music is really not my favorite and I don't listen to them often but I have to say tosin is the most interesting and the most innovative rock guitar player since I'd probably say Jimi Hendrix and he doesn't get the credit he deserves.
Agreed! I saw 'em here in Arizona and I'll be honest, I was quite bored and after 2 songs, I felt missing with lyrics (Mainly because the opening band played a nearly 3 hour set of just guitar bass and drums...It was aganizing) And i'll admit, while i wasn't impressed with their show in terms of music, I feel Tosin DEFINITELY is very innovative and uses the 8 string in the best way possible, when you think of interesting and unique 8 string playing, Tosin is always who I think of. Even if i'm not a fan of his music, there's no denying he's one of the best 8 string players ever. And hell, even as a guitarist, since he doesn't use the lowness of the 8 string to chug heavy chords.
May I just point out how often people compare Tosin to Jimi? They're both amazing guitarists but whats another thing they have in common? They're both colored guitarists. I feel that's another reason why people compare the two so specifically.
Tristen P truthfully I seem them differently ...I think it's an 'age' thing....as in, at the time. like jimmi introduced faster and harder playing in his guitar solos while still having soul and meaning, otherwise why would so many players reference him? he was first and best known for taking guitar and making it meaningful...and tosin's playing is the way to respond to the trend of guitarists with 8 strings chugging low F# chords and flabby soulless music...and he used the lower tunings to his advantage with more rhythmic and meaningful playing. irs apples to oranges and both have their skills but irs a matter of taste because they are truthfully radically different...lol
The Matrix is a Power Amplifier, it makes the preamp signal LOUD. The Axe FX II is a digital FX processor, and guitar Pre-amp. All of the effects, and amp modeling are coming from it. However, the AF2 is only a line-level unit. It's output signal is not designed to drive speakers, but rather feed headphones or a computer. The Matrix is needed to amplify the Axe FX 2's signal, and thus drive the speaker cab volume. Hope that helps.....
they've been using both.. Javier and Tosin were using Ibanez long before they used strandbergs. Tosin just recently got a signature model so it makes sense for him to show it off.
awesome ! I’m a big fan of jazz III picks, been using them for several years but I always wanted a thinner version of them, nice to know about black ice picks, thanks for uploading this !
There's a lot more to being a good guitarist than playing fast. I don't know about the greatest, but the way Tosin phrases his riffs/songs is pretty amazing.
Sort of. He is going from the Analog Out of the Axe FX to the front of the Port City. So he is using both the preamp, and the power section of the Port City. As he says, the Matrix is his backup power amp which he is using right now since the Port City had blown a tube the night before.
I was confused for a bit there. You gotta excuse me because I'm a bit high but I couldn't figure out why Meshuggah artwork was in the background lol. Both are my favorite technical bands. I'm a huge fan of both but only a more recent fan of Animals. I saw both live in different occasions and I was mind blown.
Bobby Flay If I made music equipment, I'd offer mine to the best band for free. Because they'd sell it for me :) If I was an artist, I'd definitely let the best music companies make me some 1-off equipment for free.
if anyone wondered what he meant by "wet"...obviously it meant adding effects but it goes to adjusting the amount of effects to the og sound of the source....wet amount is the effect and dry is the source...
Yeah... especially since he talks about learning intervals on the neck to prepare for lower tunings. It reminds me of how accustomed we guitarists probably are to slamming that low string open and hearing an E.
We pieced together licks that Chicago guitarist Keith Howland did during a demo of the Egnater 4100 Tourmaster at the 2008 NAMM Show. If you search for the video, you'll be sure to hear pieces of the PG riff throughout the demo. Thanks for watching, --PG Staff
@11:47 when he mentions Misha, you can see the biggest smile tosin has made in a while, its nice when other bands are buddies with each other, so they can tour together more and made collaborations more often, unifying music more and more
Even being a fan of it, I know what you mean. It's great seeing rigs with colourful pedals and all slidey things coming out the racks and stuff. At least they had the lamp things :P
Dude, vibrato is one of the most important aspects of playing guitar. If you haven't even mastered a vibrato, you're not close to "one of the best modern musicians kicking around right now"
I kinda agree with you, so many people use them nowadays, but as you can see, people do all kind of different stuff with it, so it’s still interesting, if you want to see a lot of pedals check out Josh Klinghoffer rig rundown :D
Very smart, efficient, tour-friendly, modern rigs. Unlike some Rig Rundowns where players just bring tonnes of individual vintage things that usually only do one or two things well.
It's always been like this. Go back to the late 60s and imagine if they did rig rundown videos with those guitarists. "Yeah I use a Plexi Marshall like everyone else"
does anyone know if there are bass amp programs in fractal? i want either this or a kemper. i run an ampeg svt2 in stereo with my switchblade and i want to be able to have an ampeg svt patch running with a hughes and kettner switchblade am i better off getting a kemper and profiling my svt from the 70's and my switchblade or getting a fractal anyone with advice it would be much appreciated
can someone please explain the 2-extra-frets-thingy to me. I mean do you tune the 2 strings lower then and put the capo on it so it's back to "normal" ?
Id really love to see a Rig Rundown on 30 Seconds to Mars. But, Im not sure PG is reading these comments, so I'll leave a few crumbs around, to see if they pick up on it?!
Those aren't Floyd Rose bridges.... They are Ibanez's version of a locking hard tail fixed bridge. I think you don't have to cut the ball ends off so it should be easy to use.
You should do a rundown of The Sword! Great players that bring back that classic metal sound. They try to use equipment that would've been around in the 70's so that'll be interesting!
i think i can explain. it's not an actual genre but a colloquial term that references the hipster mentality of "i knew it first" or "you've probably never heard of it" and attaches it to metal heads who think that just cuz they listen to some underground black metal band with one EP and shitty production it expands their knowledge of "real metal"
Iv watched a load of rig rundown videos from various peeps and I gotta say, this chic is on point. Asks all the right questions. So informed.
i love that she actually knows what she's talking about and isn't just a pretty face
fantastic

Uh, Javier's a pretty, uh, cool guy, and his guitar looks, uh, pretty sweet.
7:29 Javier Reyes is trying to show his pick,but...
Weird, eh?
Yeah weird. Alien like weird. Hahahaa
Finally, they talk about how they use the fractal. Thank-you PG. Telling someone you use the fractal says almost nothing. Knowing what amps and settings they use within the unit is way better.
Rebecca...... please come back to PG. Rig Rundowns have not been the same ;-(
Javier looks like a Lecturer at a Engineering college.
Dirk Smit lol i hope you have seen the physical education video by aal
that's why he played the teacher xD
Really refreshing to have the host know their stuff and ask the right questions. Subscribed!
"My friend Misha Mansoor", PERIPHERY!!
Tosin seems so down to earth! Glad he's finally getting recognition as being a brilliant guitar player.
I dont know what makes me so happy but seeing these two just, never fails to make me smile, theyre fantastic
that rare guitar prooves that tosin comes from another planet, i discovered it!!!
these guys are so chill and down to earth, probably two of the best modern musicians kicking around right now
I really want that hunk of drift wood with alien technology strapped on to it.
So much priceless info here. Thanks Javier and Tosin.. you guys are bosses
Great series of videos you are doing here. Tosin is probably the most articulate person I've heard describe tones, sounds etc.
If only most people had that open mind..
Yup! Livewire, first time seeing a band there!

4:58, his Spanish comes through.
lol too funny, didn't hear that one
That's one awesomely beautiful guitar you've got Tosin!
The Matrix is a Power Amplifier, it makes the preamp signal LOUD. The Axe FX II is a digital FX processor, and guitar Pre-amp. All of the effects, and amp modeling are coming from it. However, the AF2 is only a line-level unit. It's output signal is not designed to drive speakers, but rather feed headphones or a computer. this is the most helpful rig rundown fosho
they've been using both.. Javier and Tosin were using Ibanez long before they used strandbergs. Tosin just recently got a signature model so it makes sense for him to show it off.

OMG Abasis rad ass haircut from the early 90's. What a baller.
Tosin is such an awesome dude!
They can be a pro or a hobbyst... bass and guitar players will go on and on about their gear for hours...
Legit one of the only rundowns where they go through their patches, show us the Amps they use and let us in on their secrets hahah
Well so far it has only been AAL and Meshuggah. What other bands use Fractal?
I was thinking this. Really good interviews.
Sort of. He is going from the Analog Out of the Axe FX to the front of the Port City. So he is using both the preamp, and the power section of the Port City. As he says, the Matrix is his backup power amp which he is using right now since the Port City had blown a tube the night before.
Matt Pike from High on FIre has been using a custom made FIrst Act 9 string for years, Bill Kelliher from Mastodon also uses one
This girl needs to be doing every Rig Rundown
The great thing about Rebecca is that she DOES know what she's talking about, contrary to most interviewers out there!
thumbs up for Rebecca Dirks !!!!!
Man i got my 8-string because of meshuggah as well. I Love that sound!
YES! ive been waiting for this!
Why is everything that I look up from any part of their rigs 2,999.99 + bricks?
they got moneys
Mitch McGinnis they got endorsements.
Mitch McGinnis Yeah I don't think they're making that much money. I'm sure they make enough to live off of, but the rest is totally endorsements.
Oh sure they do man. Wouldn't you think that musicians, especially at this level would save up for the best equipment possible? I think yes.
Bobby Flay If I made music equipment, I'd offer mine to the best band for free. Because they'd sell it for me :)
If I was an artist, I'd definitely let the best music companies make me some 1-off equipment for free.
Shit, Javier's got some dreamy-ass eyes.
You plug your guitar in and it digitally 'models' any amps/cabs/effects. You could plug your guitar in and plug it straight into the PA.
if anyone wondered what he meant by "wet"...obviously it meant adding effects but it goes to adjusting the amount of effects to the og sound of the source....wet amount is the effect and dry is the source...
It's impossible to be dry while watching a video with Javier and Tosin with this kinda hi end gear man.
Yeah... especially since he talks about learning intervals on the neck to prepare for lower tunings. It reminds me of how accustomed we guitarists probably are to slamming that low string open and hearing an E.
Shit, javier's got some dreamy ass eyes.

good questions Rebecca !
Even being a fan of it, I know what you mean. It's great seeing rigs with colourful pedals and all slidey things coming out the racks and stuff. At least they had the lamp things :P
If he had a junk shop strat, Boss compressor and a 35 year old Roland Jazz combo he'd still spank most of our backsides!
The Roland jazz chorus is rad dude
14:33
best
giggle
ever
lol
I love this band. Great guys!
josh travis has been playing 9 strings for a year or two now. emg made the first 9 string pickup for him.
Tosin, you are NOT lazy!!!
My friend Misha. lol
cant seem to find those string gauges anywhere. they arent on the DR website
hahha freaking tosin. Dat laugh at 13:00 "toldsworth" lmao.
Dude, vibrato is one of the most important aspects of playing guitar. If you haven't even mastered a vibrato, you're not close to "one of the best modern musicians kicking around right now"
Have you done a Neil Young yet? :)
tosin is the coolest guy ever
Javier's new Signature ESP in pretty nice.
Hairball at 0:22
I kinda agree with you, so many people use them nowadays, but as you can see, people do all kind of different stuff with it, so it’s still interesting, if you want to see a lot of pedals check out Josh Klinghoffer rig rundown :D
When is the Justin Derrico rig rundown going to be up?
8:55 the guitar has such a steam punk style to it
God damn it this hurts my brains much interesting and helpful information!
i love the tone of my 1995 tosin.
Not only a monster player, Tosin appears to be a great guy too.
I've seen Tosin live and I was half a meter away from him. fucking incredible!
They need to get Dirks back.
what is with the foot in the background behind the guitar?
Wow great gear
does anyone know if there are bass amp programs in fractal? i want either this or a kemper. i run an ampeg svt2 in stereo with my switchblade
and i want to be able to have an ampeg svt patch running with a hughes and kettner switchblade am i better off getting a kemper and profiling my svt from the 70's and my switchblade or getting a fractal anyone with advice it would be much appreciated
How could you not find this or the Coheed rundown interesting?
Can you do a 30 seconds to mars rig run down when they get back on tour?
.55 picks ? Wow that's thin...
I love those picks. They don't fight you at all, have great grip and are very responsive to how much you attack the strings.
+cubixthe i used them for a while but they started feeling too thin...i went up to .6 and it was perfect
+Chandler Sowinski I feel really weird now. I'm using 1.3s
Damn man that's a thick jazz 3
I'm also a rhythm player, so I don't do the shred thing.
Wow the thin pick really surprised me 🤔
BobSince1981
Me too. Usually for this style it's around 3mm.
can someone please explain the 2-extra-frets-thingy to me.
I mean do you tune the 2 strings lower then and put the capo on it so it's back to "normal" ?
Are you doing a Periphery rig rundown?
15:12 most impressive piece of gear in the whole video, and it wasn't even spoken about.
Bloody hell! Yes!
i think that the importance of the rig is for the musician and for his confidence
What's that blue box on the right of the DAC?
Id really love to see a Rig Rundown on 30 Seconds to Mars. But, Im not sure PG is reading these comments, so I'll leave a few crumbs around, to see if they pick up on it?!
I've always wondered the same thing, lol.
Those aren't Floyd Rose bridges.... They are Ibanez's version of a locking hard tail fixed bridge. I think you don't have to cut the ball ends off so it should be easy to use.
Holy shit...Tosin and Javier on 9 string guitars would be AMAZING!
What exactly is the digital to analog converter doing and what's the pros to it
Can someone, explain me what is the use of MATRIX component?
What is this MESA BOOGIE, THAT FULL STACK? CAN ANYONE TELL ME EXACT NAME. It looks really beautiful
If I'm not mistaken, it's a Mesa Boogie Royal Atlantic 100 =)
You should do a rundown of The Sword! Great players that bring back that classic metal sound. They try to use equipment that would've been around in the 70's so that'll be interesting!
Man those Axe-FX systems are sexy. Mighty want.
5:40 someone says "i need to rub one out somewhere" LMAO XD
"What got you into 8 strings?" "Uhh..Meshuggah"
My hero.
i think i can explain. it's not an actual genre but a colloquial term that references the hipster mentality of "i knew it first" or "you've probably never heard of it" and attaches it to metal heads who think that just cuz they listen to some underground black metal band with one EP and shitty production it expands their knowledge of "real metal"
Different type of 9 string, the First Act 9 string is like a 12 string, except it's only the G, B and e strings that have the doubles.
