- I finally took the plunge and designed my own mechanical keyboard layout for the Color Computer 1, 2 and 3.
This is just a quick showing of the bare boards I just got... I still need to assemble and see how the layout feels and works.
Inspired by MrDave6309's keyboard that I assembled in this Livestream: ruclips.net/user/li...
These are the switches I like (63 needed):

As always, music by Rush, who allow use of their music on YT because they're awesome! ❤️
Artemis, we have lift off! I can't wait to see it in action.
Sounds like a nifty keyboard for sure. Especially for those that are from the PC gaming style layouts on the arrow keys :)
I think my first exposure to the inverted T was a Tandy 1000 keyboard. It made me want to convert that keyboard to work with a CoCo 🙃 unfortunately, (or fortunately) it wasn't mine.
So you were way ahead of me when you had the genius idea of integrating lights into the keyboard project. I'll do you one better. There are often many things we do with CoCo in the way of adding "switches" for things. Some people use them for turbo or switching among ROMs (which is definitely something I want to do). But how to "cater": to them all? After all, lights and switches in the keyboard shell is better than a case mod! So my idea is a bank of switches! They can be dip switches or something more easy to manipulate. And the plus is that it adds to the old fashioned "hacker" instinct nearly all CoCo users have in common! Please consider adding switches which can then be used to wire over to internal CoCo mods!
I need one of those! That looks awesome!!! And I've been working on CoCo keycaps with WASD keyboards. So that might go well together!
I put my info in the description, shoot me an email.
What kind of keycaps are you doing? I've seen some interesting techniques on YT.
@@CoCoNutBob Yeah I just order my designs straight from WASD. Let your customers order their own and even design their own.
Intrigued. Improved keyboard layout, it looks like. I cannot hear the audio where I am -- so I'll ask: To hook in a real CoCo, or USB for computer emulator use?
For real CoCos
I would love to see it after you get it all put together and operational.
woot!!!! are you going to make this available somehow?
I'm not sharing gerbers at this point, but you can email me (see description)
Yes, once I have verified all the things I need to.
Already corrected the mounting holes and a solder mask issue, but no major problems expected.
Timing is everything, right? About a week ago, I received a KeyFix 3 to fix one of my Coco 3s. Haven't installed it yet. I'm looking forward to seeing you build this up and show what it looks like completed and in an actual Coco. Keep up the great work.
I had a similar one (MrDave6309's) on display at CoCofest. It's really nice!
Just need the right keycaps now (ASCII instead of ANSI), but I have a plan!
Looks great
Heck yeah, sign me up! 😅
You may have to wait for v2...
What color do you prefer? I was thinking of white, but blue or purple are... 💚
@@CoCoNutBobWhite is fine, all the colors are great though!
