I kind of want to buy the Legion Go S with Steam OS, as the Z2 Go would be a bit of an improvement over the APU in the Steam Deck. However, given that I also have an ROG Ally and the original Legion Go, I might just put Steam OS on one of those and call it a day.
Not bad... I'm really think about this (though I may wait for the Steam deck 2). I know that I'd want the configuration you had (the pricey Windows one you unboxed) but in the purple colorway and with SteamOS in place of Windows.
I saw this for pre-order yesterday at Bestbuy. I saw the 8” screen with VRR and it looked like it fixed all the things that I didn’t like about the original Legion Go. It said Z2 so one would think it’s better than the Z1X, but apparently it’s not. I’m not sure if I’m going to cancel the pre-order or not. I have a more powerful handheld, so I might now want this one lol
May they soon put USB-C4 2.0 80GBPS (120gbps MAX) on all laptops by the end of this year. May Microsoft optimize Windows well so that we can have a portable PC on the go and the perfect desktop mode when docking it in a dock and working when we get home. I will abandon all notebooks and PCs if this happens. Note: Waiting for Z3 Extreme next year with power from 15w to 80w with the 40CUs of the Ryzen IA MAX+ 390 in ZEN6 and RDNA 4
499$ with steam os is that with 32GB and 1tb storage because if it is ok not bad just buy your own cheap copy of windows 11 or run an unactivated and dual boot if you want. Cause if they are basically charging you $230 for windows yeah no, I can buy my own thx.
No what the 499 one is a z2 go with 16gbs of ram idk bout storage but I do know it’s upgradable with a full sized m.2 what makes the windows one special is it has a z1 extreme and 32gbs of ram and 1tb of storage (also I’m pretty sure it’s a z1 extreme given it gives better performance since it’s more expensive but I could be wrong it’s just that some people are saying z2 go and some z1 extreme)
@@CaptainRex332 it is not the Z1X (according to task manager, it says Z2 Go). I don't know the full details about the Z1X spec other than it exists, but availability might vary between regions. Have a feeling the base model Z1X will cost similar to the $729 launch Z2G - would be scratching my head if it ends up being even more expensive than the base Legion Go 😂
You do know that the Steam Deck is more of a test run and to see what the market can offer them and they succeeded in dominating the market. Can't wait for Steam Deck Pro or Steam Deck 2. It'll be fantastic.
I like that it has a track pad, but it's a bit small. I hope more handheld console makers add track pads. I think one track pad is enough, I only use the right track pad on my Steam Deck. Also, I hope more handheld console had thinner bezels. It improves a lot of games. The Steam Deck OLED's screen is only slightly bigger than the LCD Deck's screen, but the thinner bezel is really noticeable. L
I really like the look of the white Legion Go S, but the price to performance ratio just isn't there. $499 model seems ok I guess though. I'm mostly just waiting for the Legion Go 2 since that'll have OLED and VRR.
I have the original Legion and love it (minus slow driver updates and no longer getting consistent update info from Ben on Reddit, however it runs good enough currently so not the end of the world . I possibly will upgrade to the new top model depending on differences and how good the new chip is and if those upgrades are worth it. However I feel like this go s model is a huge miss. What does it really offer that you cant get from pre-existing models that are out there such as SD OLED, ROG ALLY X, or original Legion (Even the new 2nd gen MSI Claw)? Even more so with being able to buy second hand and new models most likely bringing prices down of earlier gen models.
Talking with them yesterday, Valve and Lenovo are working more closely than you think on this first one. Almost think of it as testing the waters before really opening SteamOS to other companies.
I just cant handle where the sticks are on this. But I am rather happy their is more competition for steam deck which should help push them to get SD2 out.
If you look closer it looks like the unit is using a 2230 with an adapter. I'm not sure if it is true but others are reporting that you can fit a 2280 (regular size) without the adapter.
Very lackluster and underwhelming coverage. You mention it goes up to 40w, but don't mention how low does it go, or performance at lower wattage, which is far more relevant for a handheld.
wtf I thought the s was going to oled 😢I was excited about this because i thought it was going to be oled on that big screen that would of been cool I already have the the legion LCD y would I bother buying this? At least they managed to to give it front facing speakers
They are still making a go 2 though this is just meant to be a cheaper alternative to the og go Edit: the legion go 2 is gonna be a 8.8inch oled with better performance since it’s gonna be a z2 x chip and im assuming extra ram so I guess u got your wish if u just wait a bit longer
Having no trackpads and significantly less options for virtual buttons makes this so less desirable, Fewer paddles and zero virtual buttons on trackpads. nah i'm good i guess. cool otherwise but yeah.....to replace a mouse and keyboard I need to actually have the ability to map all the keys and without a trackpad it's not really viable
@@ericboadu8525 yeah but it's a mouse pointer a tbest and i've yet to see one that can even get close to the performance of a SD trackpad, but its' better than nothing i guess.
If your just going to use it as a handheld game device not bad at all but for $100 more you can get the windows version, all the intrusive Microsoft stuff yes but just works better for other tasks so you don't really need a laptop.
I get that it’s “cheap” but you know what? You get what you pay for. I sure ain’t buying in 2025 a device that is only 1080p w/ just ISP display & only 16 gigs of RAM. That’s specs from 2 years ago. That’s the original OG ROC Ally specs. The windows version of this device that is selling for $730… make no mistake, that is the cheapest you will ever get 32 gigs of RAM for. The Ally X sells for $800 & only has 24 gigs of RAM. RAM makes a real difference in newer resource heavy games. Stuff like that Indiana Jones game or Stalker 2. There is no reason in 2025 to go w/o more RAM. The streamOS version sells for $500 but it’s 16 gigs. That’s what just about any 16 gigs of RAM device in 2025 should sell for, but buying it…. That ain’t me.
I’d say more of a Xbox controller with the switch since it has a more Xbox 360 styled dpad with the Xbox layout and white of a 360 controller but then more so shaped like a joycon with the handles of a Xbox controller
I'll be sticking with my Deck. I prefer the centered joysticks and button placements. I hated my Legion Go, hated the ergonomics. Steam Deck just did it right with placement.
