As I’ve gotten older and due to the trends in gaming, I’ve shifted back to playing more single player games. It’s so much less stressful. Steam Deck is great for that, generally. I’m not even sure I want my handheld to be able to play Call of Duty honestly. Wouldn’t want to even fall into the temptation. I do wish the hardware was more powerful, but I have alternative ways to play new AAA games anyway. Frankly, if I really want to play AAA on any handheld, it’s almost always going to be better to stream it. No handheld is actually beating PC or consoles anyway with native graphics.
Pruchased the steamdeck early this year and man ive got so much use out of it. I travel way too much to own a console and this thing has been so amazing!
Mine came in the mail just about 3 days ago and I gotta say, I’ve been loving it a lot to the point I haven’t turned on my main gaming PC lmao. Don’t get me wrong I love playing big triple A games on my beefy PC, but it’s just so nice to be able to do everything u do at a desktop setup on the go and not having to sit at your desk to do it. I feel like I’ll finally be able to put more time into the games I wanna play since I’m not stuck at my desk sitting down for hours, while now with my steam deck I can go whenever and lay down wherever and play those exact same games! Also the cloud streaming such as GeForce now is amazing, being able to play the games you own without needing to download it and run it at max setting is a big one too.
There competitor are the same price or cheaper and significantly significantly more powerful with better build quality. Like the ROG. If you're dead set on the steam deck as a platform, wait until the new model comes out in a year or two

The word "worth" is highly subjective. For me it is worth it. Got mine yesterday and use it for chiaki4deck, retros etc. Chiaki covers AAA games while playing retros natively 🎉
Well, it's worth playing the 2000-era PS2/Xbox era game, 2006-era PS3/Xbox 360 era, and 2013 era PS4/Xbox One in one place. I can go to places i used to visit during those ere and play the games there to relive my memories of those days. And to combine all of those memories into a single gaming marathon experience. I can finally experience what it feels like to sit in my old classroom and play the games we wanted back then. I can also visit the places i like and not worry about waiting or boring time because there's the Steamdeck/Ally whevener i want it.
Just today place an order for deck oled 512gb. I've been console player my whole life ( since Pegasus , fake nes which was popular in Poland when I was a kid 😅) but recently realized that I do not play to much on ps5 becuase lack of time or energy to sit and play for few hours. I was thinking about geting one a year ago but because I never played on pc my steam library was not existing so decided to not buy it. My friend recently explained me that you have websites which selling cd keys cheap and plenty of steam sales with good discounts( already bought 20 games 😂). So decided to get one for myself to play on it in work. I hope I will not regret it😅
Oled should be the standard on today's handhelds.. it barley costs more.. and makes a huge difference. Companies that still use other panels on devices that cost hundreds of dollars are just being cheap.
I love the oled screen on the steam deck but being able to play just about every game is absolutely worth it for the X - pc gamers that are used to windows will absolutely benefit from an ally x over a steam deck because of the limitations are far more apparent once you've tried more powerful handhelds
My preorder 64gb LCD with hall effect joysticks and 2tb still goes strong after almost 3y. Lots of 2024 games like POE2 still work @30 fps. I want 32-64gb, 2xusb 4, vrr and 2-4x performance/battery life. If V2 offers this, it will be 0day preorder. Also, I'm still amazed by the power of new arm cpus. Why can they get desktop single core performance on mobile phones? Amazing. I think the final form is the phone with steam deck's controller (including the touchpads). The merger of linux with desktop/steam/Android interfaces is what I've been waiting for the past decade! Btw, it's my main gaming device for someone that has it all (4090+7800x3d/xbox x/ps5/switch). Also 🎮!
🎮. I envy deck owners in terms of battery life. It sucks that in my country, the only available near my area at that time when I decided to buy one is ROG Ally. I'll just enjoy it for now. But it sucks to only have a little more than an hour battery when unplugged. Happy gaming to everyone!
I play on the PS Portal linked to the Pro which makes it much better for streaming. I also really want the Deck but it's already 3 years old and I think it's better to wait for the next gen.
Yeap, it's one of the must have devices for this 2024... Quick question, where I can find that Damascus protector... I fall in love with that thing... Nice video my men
Originally reserved the deck when reservations opened but canceled it two months before release. A year after it launched, I bought it during the first 10% off sale. Now, nearly two years later, I have the limited edition white Steam Deck. Looking back, I kind of wish I had gone with the cheaper 512GB black OLED. For me, 512GB is plenty on a handheld since I tend to download tons of games but barely play them. Having less storage would have kept me more focused. Spending an extra 50 euros for the white edition wasn’t really worth it, and the 512GB version would have been a better, more affordable choice with its glossy display. That said, the Steam Deck, especially the OLED model, is absolutely worth it. I love my deck, and my only regret is paying extra for the limited edition color. The device itself is fantastic, and I’ve loved it since I got my first LCD version.
Sounds like you’ve come full circle on why people love the Deck despite it not being the top spec device. You hit many of the arguments I’ve been making for a while. I found the X started to kill that joy of gaming the Steam Deck had somehow rekindled. Looking forward to seeing your thoughts on Bazzite on the Ally X, I found it helped bridge the gap, but then the hardware and LCD started to become an annoyance.
I got mine a month ago and with my legion Go they make the perfect pair batman and robin The software of windows is a major strength not a weakness you can have a pick up and play exactly the same as a deck.
I have the OLED and the X and yeah, outside of the couple games the Ally can play that the Deck can’t, I’m still using the Deck as my primary system. I can play those other games on Xbox, my laptop, or my desktop.
Just finished setting up my ally x w/ bazzite. Specifically the 2TB sd card. Format it on the bazzite partition in exfat and make a libraby on it on bazzite. Should work on the windows partition too. It may have been fat32 but i swear it was exfat and it read perfect on windows.
Vali I've been a suscriber since you had 3k, so happy you are doing great! I really want you to answer my question which is: I have both the rog ally x and the white limited edition steam deck oled, I love the ergonomics, oled screen and ease of use of SD but if I return it I get 716$ back to my debit card 😅 on the other hand I have the chance to exchange the rog ally x 1 tb for the 2 tb at best buy and I'm paying for that one with my best buy credit card so installments lol, that's the money part, functionality I like both but there is something about the SD that keeps me pulling me towards it, maybe installing bazzite on the rog ally x will make me forget about the SD oled, which one would you recommend me to keep? Thanks in advance
It depends. And thanks for being here! - do you use the steam deck MORE? And what games are you playing? Realistically, do whatever fits your budget the best, but to me both are amazing.
You can’t really tell the oled differences compared to the original in my opinion if you just crank the brightness up using vibrant deck it gives you a basically similar experience on the original deck
I hate being that guy, but it's in my nature. You got the VRR and SD fps adjustment concept process wrong. The SD can adjust anywhere from 10-90 hertz (which means 10-90 fps). Not in 5, 10 or 15 fps jumps. Totally not true. You can literally go fps by fps in 1 step increments at certain refresh rates. You can even see it your video B-roll. And the difference VRR makes is it simply auto-adjusts the actual display frame rate to the fps of the game vs the SD locking your frame rate. It basically tricks your eyes. That way when you dip below 60 fps, it won't look as stuttery. On the SD, if you lock it to 60, and it dips below, you will see frame stutter. But not with VRR on the Ally/X because it drops the native display refresh rate to match the game. So basically Valve went for total consistency by locking frame rates at the user designation, while Asus is trying to adapt to the chaos of fps jumps while making it automatic for the user.
@ no, which is why I was even considering it but I would rather have a portable device anyways and your video helped me with my decision but now I’m debating on whether I should get a Rog Ally or steamDeck 😅
@@CrescentTheWolfhonestly if battery life is important to you then go for the Deck, but if you plan on playing docked a lot then go for the Ally. It’s way more powerful but the battery is less that half of the deck 😭
Some people will play on alts and buy on a main, so they don’t ban their main account. It’s also helpful for families who share a device since games tend to save on a per user basis rather than save “slots”
ur life gonna change when u install bazzite and the 4tb ssd. thats my exact setup and it feels like a steamdeck 2/steamdeck pro. i still use my steamdeck but i use it mainly for ps3 era games like fallout/skyrim/gta5 or lightweight games

Can I put the steam deck to a dock on my second monitor and use it to stream my main pc ?
Yeah, but prob best to use an external capture device that’s compatible
Steam OLED is the best handheld out atm
Just curious, did you go for the glossy 512GB or the 1TB w/ etched screen? Im having trouble deciding, a lot of different takes :)
I had the etched glass lcd model. When the oled came out I went for glossy. And I don’t regret it. I upgraded the ssd in it to 2tb too.

I have tried so many UMPC out there, but SD OLED is the best among them.

Nah. Lol the original steam deck looks like a cheap toy compared to the OLED display it’s actually not even funny 😂

Deck very fine tune vrr not a big lost but its up to you or just wait for the next steam deck maybe in 2026, would have vrr by then.
I went LCD Deck > OLED > X > OLED. The X has been my biggest regretful purchase of 2024 for many of the reasons Vali covered in this video.
I gotta ask... What's the purpose of "multiple steam accounts"? I cannot think of a reason you would need more than 2 personal account?
Some people will play on alts and buy on a main, so they don’t ban their main account. It’s also helpful for families who share a device since games tend to save on a per user basis rather than save “slots”
