  • I see it all over the message boards and forums: Where are all the elk? How do I find elk? Why can't I locate elk?
In this video I detail many habitat and terrain features that contribute to areas that will attract and hold elk. Topics include the rut, food sources, where to find elk on the mountain and when, as well as some ideas for how to get off the beaten path. The second part of the video is a topographic map highlighted with some of the features discussed in the video, such as north facing slopes, spurs and draws.
Let me know if you have any questions or video requests!

Elk are where their needs are met....and that's mostly based around their diet as long as they're cool and safe. Forbs come and go with the seasons.....follow what's in season and what's available. When bow season starts, every Bob, Dick, and Harry start walking through the woods, (spreading scent everywhere) in places humans haven't been all Summer. This puts Elk on defense and they become forest ninjas. If hunting pressure gets extreme, they will damn near become nocturnal. Good video.

Solid video and information! I’m going out for my first hunt with an OTC 2nd rifle tag.
Great information. I’m going to try and go out on my own and hopefully run into something.

You know the best way to show thermals is to watch the the guys riding them with parachutes some times you can catch them at Buffalo Bills above Golden Colorado It's pretty wild how strong they are when they can be riding them for hours no minutes.

Colorado and big bulls don’t go together. Big bulls in CO means a 4 yo 5x5.

They lot hunt them here at Big Horn Park, Kremmling. I feel for the real hunters when these spoiled types hunt from side by sides with high powered rifles. It's happening currently. Come see for yourself, gate code is super easy to guess, think Spaceballs but one step harder.
