Trust me, once you get the gist of MLS registration rules, you get an extra layer of fun (and pain) that you can't experience in other leagues. What you want to do above all else is have as many contracts as possible "brought down" with general allocation money, to give you more space in the salary cap for extra or higher contracts. In the registration window, when you right click on a player and go to contract, you'll see the "buy down salary cap impact" option, which lets you use allocation money to make that contract cheaper in terms of the salary cap. You can't do this with every contract in the squad (senior minimum salary are already as low as they can be, and designated players have their own cap impact rules already in place), but do it with as many as you can. Don't worry about spending a lot of your allocation money, this is quite literally the most important use of it!
Exactly this. Ppl are quick to complain and moan about the mls but many moons ago (fm16 or around that time) my real life team sold a few players to a mls team and I decided to give it a go. Biggest advice is take time to learn the rules and league set up. If you are familiar with American sports and the drafts/playoffs stuff then it’ll give you a head start. Regardless once I took time to learn the rules it ended up being my favourite save I’ve had in years! People just love to laugh or scoff from the outside. Especially my fellow brits. Not remotely saying the real life quality is up there with prem etc but it’s a fun league and a different experience to anything you’ll experience on fm. Refreshed my love for the franchise many years ago and further down the line when you sign a top player it’s fun! For example I’m talking many years ago but during one save zlatan was getting towards the end of his career and hadn’t even played in the mls in real life yet, but I signed him at 34 and he was amazing for a few years, shirt sales huge, mentor to young players i had. I did similar on another save with Crespo. Got a year or two outta him and was amazing. Keep it going. Just take time to learn the rules.
