    This is what I call Frank's anthropological/troll stage (he released Joe's Garage the same year, kind of the companion piece to Sheik). This album wasn't so much about the music but the commentary. He thinks romantic songs suck or that "broken hearts are for assholes," that dumb/cute people are not only annoying but need to be put in their place, that a "Jewish Princess" and even "Yo mama" need to be studied and commented on. Frank loved entertaining and being entertained, so if there's wasn't anyone around to do it, he did it, thus this very entertaining album, one that poked and prodded you to think about your own prejudices and biases and maybe even to get you pissed off enough to take a deeper look at all the bullshit going on around you. Great stuff.

    • @Peter-K
      @Peter-K 2 года назад +8

      This album and Joe's Garage were his middle finger to the record industry. All the anger and frustration poured out in scathing lyrics and hard driving music...I always considered Sheik to be his angriest album since We're Only In It For The Money.

      As far as I’m concerned, FZ gets a pass on all of the social controversy, both past and present. It’s brutally honest satirical commentary and something he took more seriously than people think. It wasn’t all just to take the piss and get a rise out of people, although that was definitely big part of it. As Laraine Newman said in his defense at the time, “It’s not only funny, it’s dead-on. Such creatures do exist.” Or something to that effect.

    I totally love this entire album. Frank always knew how to poke and prod people with his lyrics and amazing musical talent. When I was growing up this and Joe's garage where my two favorite albums by Frank Zappa. This was before I discovered his earlier stuff and then was totally blown away. I was in high school during the 1980s so I may be a little bit younger than some of the folks that grew up during his earlier career.

    Thanks Wayne! Can you make more requests from this album.
    Franks all time most popular album. Stocked with all time Zappa hits.
    A few organic technical genius tunes, but the rest top 40 level grooving hard rock, metal, blues, all mixed in, including city of tiny lights, I'm so cute. Broken hearts are for a**oles. Jones crusher! Rat tomago, etc. Dancing fool made it on NY WABC AM radio during Long island rush hour 1978! .
    We need more requests to complete this album. Its a whole other Zappa popular sounding universe with less Frank subversions, but enough in there to make it the perfect Zappa album. It competes with overnight sensation, Apostrophe, one size fits all, but with a more expanded Frank down and dirty, grooving, hard rock/pop, filthy lyrical style, with the best drummer for these styles!

    To use a bit of an analogy...Zappa's music is a dictionary. A lot of people on here giggle at underlining the rude words whilst ignoring the rest and majority of said dictionary

    I find this like dinah moe humm and a few others of Frank's songs. It wears thin very quickly. Some of his views/opinions are outdated and backwards. This was outdated when it came out. Frank was a genius for me, but a flawed genius. Others have said it but Frank was like an eccentric uncle you didn't see very often but always felt better afterwards. And, like you do with "family", you accept them, warts and all.

    Musically its interesting and I must try and knock out an Irish version such as." I want a horrible Weasley Irish dancer with mobile legs and long straight arms Who is completely without charms. I dont want me no red faced Potato eater who puts it out by the metre. No even thats not right.

    Frank would make it on satellite radio today. You guys need to post the entire sheik yer bouti album for your viewers. Why not complete the Zappa catalogue by playing all the songs on this best selling album? Why not? Waiting for the patreons ,it will never happen! There are great songs on the album and lots of them.
    It's not just a few finger pointing songs to the record industry, as Peter K INCORRECTLY posted.
    You got a lot of views aleady, in just 2 days on one of his spoof songs of the album. There are others, bobby brown,etc, but also some great metal type rock as well,""I'm so cute"", city of tiny lights, rat tomago,etc.
    And what about Zoot allures?? Dan even said Torture never stops was one of his favorite. These two albums are the peak, prime and the meat of Zappa's greatness
