A big issue is the way remote jobs are promoted by individuals and jobboards. Hanging out at the beach, working from vacation destinations, and stepping away from a party to take a client call. As an accountant working remote, I sit in front of my computer most of the work day. The type of work I/we do, typically requires an external monitor for that large spreadsheet, quiet work area for team and client calls, and frankly performing at a higher level than van be achieved poolside. How can we change the image of remote work to promote fully engaged, committed, available employees?! Help!!

At the start, I’d say remote accountants get paid less because you aren’t as close to the revenue. If you can bring business in, you get paid more. The argument for being in the office is that you get to meet the partners more and overhear things.
Same issue that’s been mentioned before, being efficient with your hours doesn’t bring in more revenue. Bringing in new clients however does bring in more revenue.

Valve Corporation is another company with a flat org structure, and last time I checked was one of, if not the most profitable company per employee.

I’m seeing an increase in remote accounting jobs, the caveat is that most of them are for Managers. Entry level remote is nearly impossible.
