I'm working as well as a consultant in consolidation. So I'm actually also an accountant and do it location independently. It takes a a while to get the skills, but then you're able do it remote too with a much bigger salary as a lot of freelancers.
I have a B.S. in Accounting and an M.S. in Information Systems so this is very inspiring. I am currently a freelance translator and I focus on the finance and IT industry. I have translated financial statements and business documents and having that background has been very helpful. Actually more than helpful!
I’m so happy that I ran into this interview. I am currently working in corporate accounting and pursuing my BS in Accounting and want to do an online Masters in Forensic Audit. I am not a fan of office 9-5 (which is my current situation), so I will definitely research more, your blog and the internet in general. I liked the advice you gave about keeping your current office job and start taking part time remote gigs until you figure it out. It is less stressful and provides a sense of safety that if things go south with the experiment you will still have a job that pays your bills. Thank you!
That's great Chris! Yeah man we gotta move with the times. I actually just started a full-time in office job as a Content Specialist after working about two years remote as a contractor, simply to have more needed stability, get more contact with people again and gain some more experience in the IT field. I'm still trying to figure out what exactly I should be doing but I do gotta say I don't think I can take this 9-5 full-time office job for the long term. Especially after working remote for a while it's so hard to go back >< It's frustrating to see that a ton of jobs (tough not all, and in person jobs are necessary too) can really be done remote and would save companies a lot of money not to mention employees saving money on gas etc etc. Anyhow going back to watching your podcasts is giving me hope and focus for the future. My ideal work situation would be to have an employer give me the stability and flexibility to work either at home or at the office. It would help to not have to count the hours so intensely.
Awesome video Chris, my question is that are most remote accountant jobs primarily just bookkeeping? Or are there higher skill/higher value opportunities like audit or tax as well? I’m an Accounting student at UIUC and definitely am very interested in becoming a digital nomad. More videos on accounting and IT business related careers would be amazing. Cheers!
Lifestyle Accountant Awesome, thank you! I actually checked out your website a few weeks back and answered my own question. I still have a few more specific questions that I’m itching to know. Is there an email I can personally reach you at? Love the stuff you’re doing.
@Lifestyle Accountant Twitter is not letting me send DMs to people that aren't following me on Twitter. I'll just ask it on here. I was wondering if it is viable to get a remote accounting job fresh out of college? As in no prior experience (disregarding internships). Thanks in advance.
Being a travelling accountant is my dream. This is inspiring 💕
Have you pursued your dream?

Hey George im studying accounting and would love to hear an update. Are you still working at your office job?
As a management consultant, I escaped the office too! Many more professional opportunities are out there... if people can make the leap!

I am really glad I found this video, because I would love to work as a remote accountant too! ☺
I don't work 9-5; I work more like 8am to 10pm, so that makes it even worse!
What a brilliant idea. Lifestyle accountant. If I were an accountant that would be great.
Really wish that his website link still worked
Just google it man, it's just slightly changed.

This is a question for Jeff I believe. I'm not really an expert on the subject.

@@tyler-pathYour comment is 5 years old but no. How did it pan out?
I was an accounting major. Didn't like it anymore after college. Kudos to him for going remote. Nice vid

Where are you at these days? Any plans to come back to Chiang Mai?
Yeah man. I'm sitting outside CAMP as I write this lol
lol, cool. I just sent you a PM via Facebook.
Have things changed 7 years later ?
I wish to work independently and no one control me
I'm a boring bookkeeper. I want some excitement.
How long have you been a bookkeeper working independently?
Nine to five? What’s that?
