Loved hearing the VP and CTO dive into real-world challenges, guiding upcoming leaders on problem-solving and strategic thinking.
this was not on my bingo card for the end of 2024, but by god, is it ever welcomed :D Thanks Scott and Mark for these episodes :)
I just stumbled across these ScottAnd Mark videos today and starting to work through them - fantastic insights being shared. Mark's comments about silo thinking and being very deep in one topic but not understanding hows others elements interact resonated very clearly for me. Some years ago, I worked with many US-based colleagues in a huge multi-national deployment of MS technologies and the company engineers all wanted to be the XXX product/component SME. The issue was, they often seemed oblivious to how their particular tech interacted with everything else. Here in Asia Pacific, due to small team sizes, we were masters of no technolgy but had a fairly decent understanding of the landscape and how all the jigsaw puzzle pieces fitted together and depended on each other, so as a global team we leveraged each others skills and experience made it all work. I wonder how much silo thinking is driven by geography and the availability of deep resource pools to draw from.
One anecdote that was shared with me 30 years ago by my then boss was that knowing how to use a fork is useful, but being able to organize and set the entire place setting will get you much further.
You two are the greatest, maybe consider making a Netflix series someday?🔥
Leaders can always command, but to influence is real leadership. Awesome episode!
Great start, I’ll sit back and enjoy two of the most brilliant people in our space.
This series is going be golden.. The knowledge shared, banter, enjoying every moment of it
As expected, it was just awesome! Look forward to next episode! And thanks for taking time to do this!
Besides the tech content of the video, I also enjoyed Mark's view on authority. Agree that is best to lead with influence and sell people the vision rather than lead with pure authority. It builds trust. In all teams there are talented individuals and if you share the vision, people align! Of course, Scott is doing the same on a daily basis on his Twitter and TikTok.
Thank you for some great insights, and love the theme :) great podcast, looking forward to more !
Thank you Scott and Mark
Really great stuff, It's nice to hear from others who are struggeling with this.
Love that, thanks, Scott and Mark!
Sold!! To the highest bidder! Love this!!
Loving the show and this episode is awesome!
came to a techie podcast, learned about leadership. i'm here for all of it.
Loved this new podcast scott and mark!!!, really great engaging topic areas as well really cool keep them coming!!! 👏
Wow. This is awesome! Love all the 90s graphics and icons and such. Bravo!
Mark is so great! Been a fan since the early SysInternals time. Now I am working in a big corporation and I am so happy that Mark is the Azure CTO, because we invest heavily in Azure. I am not so sure if I am really a fan of Microsoft generally. ;-)
Came for the content. Stayed for the nostalgic overlay.
We need more of this please!!!
Love you both, love this show.
Love this. Nice discussion: relaxed but insightful. (Especially loved the retro-Windows flair and attention to detail in the video editing.) I'll be sure to be back.
'Systems Thinking'! Looking forward to it.
This is a good talk and something a lot of tech people require experience to learn
I am an (Enterprise) IT architect. This very much resonates with my experience. Especially Mark's comment about "going one level deeper". Totally agree. How can I tell engineers what I think should be done, if I don't invest time in understanding their world? Great talk!
Would love to see a session on how to allocate time and attention to the things that matter. The higher up the chain you move, the more important the skills of sifting through the noise become
I'm looking forward to the systems thinking episode!
Waov i got the notification right about bed time:) thanks
Two legends share wise things. And there are only 5k views. That is unfair!
Great video!
Love the animation
Great stuff
Really awesome 👏 🎉 I thought the Media Player’s overlay play head was actually synced to the time you guys have talked.
love the intro, nostalgic
Re: "Someone should do something"
I've tried to go into those conversations to ask for advice rather than to lodge a complaint. Not that it always works, but it at least makes me seem less negative.
very good
Since I first learn C# (I should go back and learn it more) Scott Hanselman have a lot authority for me, so I don't understand the title.
Should the movie title extension have been .avi or.wmv?
"Impressive." D. Vader
Someone should advocate for the customer in the realm of not removing Windows features. Eg. Windows mail and calendar, included-with-windows, advert-free email and calendar client which supports all of Microsoft's paid email teirs is being removed, despite the fact that we paid for it by buying a windows licence (either standalone or as a bundle with a computer).
Pissing off the wrong Director/Partner/VP can be an RGE. not everyone has a manager that will encourage that behaviour. (i do... in case he's/she'sreading this....) LOL
I'd go with the Sgt Schultz defence here Pierre.
