Jayesh...I just met you again walking on Jalan Malioboro, welcome to Yogyakarta and you also have to visit Surakarta (Solo) by taking the Jogja-Solo commuter train, it only takes 1 hour.
You guys should try sate klathak. It's a goat satay but cooked using an iron stick. One of the most known place is Sate Klathak Pak Pong, but I suggest you to try other places too because it's quite crowded especially on weekend and peak season. Hope you guys enjoy your visit in Yogyakarta!
Welcome to Jogja! You should visit all ancient temples here: Prambanan, Borobudur, Ratu Boko, candi ijo, and many more. If you're into beaches, you can explore lots of beaches in Jogja. And don't miss out Merapi volcano and try climbing up to the Nglanggran ancient volcano.
welcome to jogja jay and carolina, i hope u guys enjoy your time here in my home town, but sadly i moved away to the bandar lampung city in sumatera haha. anw u can easy find teh tarik in Indonesia because almost all warung/rumah makan sell it but not that popular, u have to ask first. anw try some bakpia susu, kopi joss and many more delicious food in jogja. that's fruit is called salak and jambu, and manis is sweet. so much fun watching ur videos from here.
The old lady that sold some fruit she said "matur suwun". Means "terima kasih", matur suwun is a Java language. The fruit she said sweet is named JAMBU AIR 😍 and the other one named SALAK.
gudeg = savoury stewed jackfruit is ancient dish since empire Majapahit kingdom in Java especially central Java and Jogjakarta/ Yogyakarta. slow cooked processed with assortment of spices and coconut milk, palm sugar and teak wood leaf.accompanied with stewed egg, sauteed skin cow, tofu and add sambal.its delicious and savoury eat with rice or porridge or lontong ( compressed rice cake).
I think that tea is not a typical drink, but in Sumatra or Malay residents in the archipelago there are still many who sell, but now there are so many restaurants or cafes that sell it, maybe not as many orders..im the one love 'teh tarik' 😊
So happy that Karolina talking a lot about gudeg 🤏😊 Most Jogja's dishes they have taste sweet if you notice that 😁 And uhhh I love little dance from Karolina when she try the tofu hahah, she's so cutee
Great that you finally discover Jogja ! While you guys there I recommend to visit : Borobudur - largest Buddhist temple and UNESCO heritage Prambanan - largest Hindu temple in Java, currently they have art installation of KAWS in there until 31st August !! So, lucky for you guys to be in there now, dont miss it ! Cinema Bakery - nice local bakery and coffee shop with unique combination interior style of French and local Javanese Angkringan - this is basically a small street food stall/cart which are nearly everywhere in town and very local style. People commonly spend time in there to have light bite and chit chat at night. If you're curious, ask anyone to show you any nearest Angkringan and feel the local vibe
woww..,, guys.., look at you, your subscribers is rising so fast.. i remember when first saw your Jakarta first video 1 or 2 weeks ago your subscribers was about 10K if i'm not wrong.. congrats guys.., enjoy your trip in Indonesia. don't forget to visit Bromo in east Java..
It's not peanut sauce but coconut gravy. The coconut milk is cooked for a very long time till it thickens and creamy and turns into gravy. And the fruit in the middle is called "jambu air" or wax apple in english.
In general food in Middle and East Java tend to be sweet. You have to mix your drink when it is composed because usually the sugary part is at the bottom.
I love both of you guys who really understand what price must be charged and what is the best place you need to go, You've done good research, and maybe if there is any chance to revisit Surabaya, I will help to list some sites and food for you guys, because Surabaya has pretty good savory and sweet food, and good places to go I think (for additional information, in Surabaya there is biggest mall in Southeast Asia, which even Jakarta does not have I guess). *FYI: the fruit that you've eaten is called Salak (English: snake fruit, because the skin of this fruit has a similar texture to snakeskin) it is really good for the immune system. The second fruit is called Jambu Monyet (English: cashew fruit, like the name of this fruit, it is the same fruit that produces cashew nut) actually there is a lot of variants for this fruit, I am not sure what kind of variant that the lady sell, but all kind of the variant has a good benefit for anti-bacteria and anti-septic), stay healthy, have fun, and can't wait for other content from you guys!
Traditional gudeg places are named after the founder so that lady in the pictures is actually named Djuminten. Teh tarik is more Melayu or Malay, and in Indonesia it is more commonly found in Sumatra but has become more popular in other parts of the country. I recommend you eat Ayam Goreng Suharti, Sate Klathak Pak Pong, Soto Kadipiro, and Bakmi Pak Pele. If you only have a short time, try Raminten as they have all traditional Jogja foods in one restaurant. Also visit alun-alun selatan at night and try all the food stalls there.
Just came across your video, I really enjoyed watching you eat one of my favorite Indonesian dishes Gudeg :). I moved to New York 41 years ago and at that time, I had to learn how to cook Gudeg since there was no Indonesian restaurant here in New York at that time :). Looking forward to watching more of your traveling journey.
Awesome story! Thank you for sharing! Gudeg stole our hearts and definitely became one of our favourite dishes in Indonesia 😍 We were lucky to discover it in Jogja! But cooking it ourselves would be very difficult 😜
If you guys like mushroom, there's a restorant in Jogja they cooked all kind mushroom such as, mushroom sarat, mushroom rendang etc,. Come to Jejamuran resto
I recommend 1. Bakmi Godog is local chicken stew noodles but usually sell for dinner, the famous one is Bakmi Pak Pele near Kraton Yogyakarta. 2. Sate Klatak is goat beef bbq using metal sticks, the famous one is Sate Klatak Pak Pong in Bantul Area (south Yogyakarta). 3. Mangut Lele is coconut milk stew cat fish, the famous one is Mangut Lele Mbah Marto in Bantul Area (south Yogyakarta). 4. Traditional snack (lemper, lupis, jadah, klepon, jenang, etc) in local market such as Kotagede Market/Pasar Kotagede, not only snack, you guys also can try indonesian tropical fruits (salak, papaya, manggo, sawo, mangosteen, jackfruit, guava, etc) in nice prices. And dont forget making reactions video after trying all the food. 5. Jamu is traditiona herbal drinks, you can get in tradisional market or restaurant such as Raminten Restaurant that give you traditional cuisine with modern vibes. Enjoy jogja guys ❤ PS: better using Gojek or Grab applications to ride a car and get recommendation from the driver.
Try Tongseng Sudimoro at Pasar Bantul. It's a meat/chicken/mutton stew with sweet soy sauce (kecap manis), coconut milk, cabbage, and tomatoes. Their tongseng soup is different from the one in Jakarta. The savory and sweet flavors blend perfectly.
you should come to Alun-Alun Kidul or Southern Square of King Palace at evening to try walking across two big banyan trees in the middle of the square, with masked eyes, you can ask people in the north area it's for your lucky if you can pass the space between two banyan trees..try it for sweet memory during in Yogyakarta
hy jay, i tihink u must try somethig another local food in Jogja, we call it "mangut lele mbah marto" in jogja, mangut its smoke catfish with lot spices its like strongly recomend
Our pleasure! We love to travel in such a way 😍 Becase getting to know local customs and food helps you to understand the culture and enhances your experience too!
fyi for modern local coffee you can try at space roastery in jogjakarta and for traditional local coffee you can try klotok coffee and joss coffee. So recommended it when i visit to jogjakarta
you may try drink a Dawet at day... Wedang Jahe(Hot Ginger) or Coffee Josss at night the name of the fruit is Salak(Snake fruit) and Jambu Air(Watre Guava) Your Hotel is Near from my Office... my office is SMP Negeri 3 Yogyakarta is in Jalan Pajeksan
The B in "B. Djuminten" stands for Bu, means Mrs. It's her in the pictures, she started and owned the business around 80 years ago. Her grandson's the one taking care of the shop now.
Mostly the basic food in jogja and central java was sweet, because back on the colonial time, the dutch built the sugar factory, and the people must work on that, sometimes they were not pay by the money but only the sugar as their payment, so many local using sugar for the main condiment for food.
In Jogjakarta Gudeg dish is( Jack fruit ). In Malaysia it call " Nanka". Your next visit to Malaysia must try. Masak Lemak Nangka. Go to Kampong Baharu Kak Som Restaurant.
Why is there so much sweet-tasting culinary in Jogja, because in the era of King HB VII, around the 1880s, there were so many sugar factories in Jogja that the King earned the nickname Sultan Sugih or the Rich King. so many sugar factories make sugar the easiest spice to get as a cooking ingredient.
Avoid tourist place as a tourist in Jogja i think impossible. Cause Jogja is the most fav. tourist destination for domestics in Java Island. And they hunt for tourist places such as historical, shopping, tourist attraction, beach and culinary. So the locals take this opportunity to serve it. If you avoid it, yeah you just found a basic general vibes of Indonsian city with a bit of a typical local culture, and it costs your times except you want to live there. Maybe my suggestion to enjoy Jogja with avoid tourist place is: take a citybus to your destination, walking around in villagers area, in true locals city area (not Malioboro where it's the city center for tourists not locals), go to the park etc. (so basic). Why not you try tourist places like "Keraton Ngayogyakarta" (Jogja's palace, the kingdom of Yogyakarta)? 😁, "Benteng Vredenburg" (castle in the dutch era), etc. (just browse it haha). And avoid Bakpia Kukus Tugu Jogja's brand, is not the real Bakpia, thats only an innovation from the owner so it looks like steamed buns. Find a real Bakpia like the brand of "Bakpia Pathuk 25", "Bakpia Djava", "Bakpia Mutiara", "Bakpia Juwara" or the bakpia that offered on the roadside but pay attention not to buy dry bakpia cause the real bakpia has a rather moist texture and is not crispy. And for another trip you can take a KRL Commuter train to the city of Solo and see the different vibes, places and culinary of Javanese town. Just use your black KAI Commuter card, see the schedule on google maps or KRL Aceess app.
*Hey guys. Maybe u can try Wedhang Ronde while there. Its traditional drink in Jogjakarta.* And for the food u can try Soto Bathok mbah Katro. They are selling good price traditional f&b.
krecek is not just skin. its cow skun that is dried in sun, then it is fried, and become chip, and then the chip cooking with spice and chilli. and that is the krecek
😁Salak is a species of palm tree in Indonesia also known as snakeskin fruit due to the reddish-brown scaly skin. The fruit inside consists of three lobes with the two larger ones, or even all three, containing a large inedible seed. The other is probably Rose apple, or better known locally as Jambu, is an exceptionally unique fruit. It is crisp and light with a mild and sweet flavor similar to a snow pear.😁

the origin of the word Malioboro is from the words of the British General Marlborough who died in the area, during the invasion of British troops with the invasion of Dutch troops against Indonesian troops in World War 2 around 1945, Indonesian pronunciation is rather difficult to pronounce Marlborough and becomes Malioboro😊
Greetings in Javanese: #matur nuwun = thank you #sugeng injing = good morning #sugeng sonten = good afternoon / evening #sugeng ndalu = good night #nyuwun sewu = excuse me
so be honest...just comin from KL and now in Jakarta...which city would you prefer and like better....and why...you should do a vlog to compare so that your viewers can have a better idea on this

the origin of the word Malioboro is from the words of the British General Marlborough who died in the area, during the invasion of British troops with the invasion of Dutch troops against Indonesian troops in World War 2 around 1945, Indonesian pronunciation is rather difficult to pronounce Marlborough and becomes Malioboro😊
