My first job after high school was the James Alex Summer Theater in Dayton Ohio in 1961. Dolores was touring in DESTRY RIDES AGAIN and she was a real trooper and a pro, as well as being a nice person who was polite to everyone. Why she never toured in HELLO DOLLY is a mystery - she would have been great in that part, with her stage presence and vibrant voice.
Yes. She was the most self-assured performer l ever saw. A dozen years or so earlier, one year after seeing Lansbury, we saw her as Rose in "Gypsy." And she remained the definitive Rose for me, until Staunton.
We saw her as Carlotta twice in the 1987 West End Revival of "Follies," the second time with the part reduced because she had broken her ankle. She stole the show anyway. An amazing talent.

I've alwyas loved her, and I always will. She was a force of nature.

Peter Duggan she fell and broke it and, I believe, didn’t miss a show. She was rolled out on a piano, right?
The first star I saw on Broadway was her,,,,in two on the aisle with Bert Lahr..a revue...in 1951 or 1952
Lovely!
