The amount of snobbish behaviour and also downright clueless people in the comment section is astonishing....For those that dont know. Just because he only plays on the standard 6 strings does not mean the 4 extended range strings dont have a function, that is primarily resonance, as others have mentioned they are tuned in a spesific way to achieve this properly. "hE iS nOt uSiNg aLL tHe StRiNgs". He is... besides the audio quality on this video is not the best so the true sound get's lost in the digital clusterfuck. In a classical concert he is only playing what is intended and believe it or not HOLDING BACK is very important. Besides enjoy the music folks dont act like you know everything, it makes you look stupid, and I certainly know alot less but even I can understand there is functionality that goes beyond eyesight.
Are you sure? I don't think strings really vibrate sympathetically to add to the resonance unless they're exposed to their own resonant frequency or a lower undertone, so if he sticks to the high strings then the low ones don't contribute (though the reverse would be true). I might be wrong, but it seems more likely to me that it was just his preferred guitar, even if he didn't need the extra strings much that day (he does hit them the odd time).
He uses that guitar to stick out and look special and he don't need the extra strings.

Sympathetic and resonator strings are a sitar family concept, fuck off lmfao. Nothing about the pieces played would lend themselves well to the extra depth / warmness those strings would impart, especially in an orchestral context where those extra overtones would get drowned out by the rest of the ensemble.
Like another comment said, it's probably just his preferred guitar or the best sounding one (quality of wood actually DOES matter when it comes to classical guitars, some of those fuckers go for tens of thousands of dollars for a reason.)
Edit: I am also open to accepting the idea that they're meant to be drone strings.
@@fearghal10 I can't say for certain, but once you hit a string especially on an acoustic, they vibrate, and that vibration does not matter the frequency of the note will make the other strings vibrate slightly with it, on a concert level acoustic like Yepes played on this overtones/undertones will come through and be very audible. Basically the force of hitting the strings with the fingers will make the other strings vibrate unless you mute them through other means like your palms or soft fabric on the bridge or nut. Besides a 10 string looks really cool and helped Yepes stand out. (Even though he didnt need it to).

The 4 lower strings are there to give chromatic resonance to all notes - they are tuned to C, A sharp, G sharp, and F sharp.
The audience is just thrilled , likely many of them did not know what a guitar can do with an orchestra. Some passages are differently fingered by Yepes, showing his strive to give always the best possible of his already stellar standard.
When he returns for the second encore the audience is just in ovation...then he captures everybody with a simple piece like Marcha Irlandesa. Ace of communication, giant of the 10 strings displayed at its best with the Kellner Fantasia, saying "la ultima" because then the orchestra must go on with its programme.
I think this is one of the greatest concert of the great Yepes.
La ilucion del que va a ser padre se transmite a través de la música del primer movimiento , la tristeza del que está a punto perder al bebe y rogar a Dios para no perder a tu esposa que es el amor de tu vida reflejado en el segundo movimiento que termina con los armónicos que evocan el alma del bebé cuando parte de este mundo , el consuelo de que Dios se lleva al bebé en el tercer movimiento .... Escuchar esta.maravilla sin saber la vida de Rodrigo y la experiencia por la que tuvo que pasar para.escribir esta obra , es como si faltará la otra mitad de la obra ..

le doy tantas gracias al ¿editor de cámara?¿coordinador de cámara? por encuadrar a don Narciso Yepes la mayor parte del tiempo. A lo mejor el que tomó la decisión de aquellos encuadres no tiene idea de cuántos guitarristas chilenos surgieron después.
¿A quién le importa cuántos guitaristas han estado siguiendo? Esto es un testimonio único del famoso Aranjuez de Rodrigo interpretado por Yepes en primer plano. ¡Un regalo para todos los guitarristas del mundo y para el público universal !

@@lucarinaldovillani63 no Luca, es *todo lo contrario* : agradezco al camarógrafo haber filmando a Yepes, porque para los que gustamos de la guitarra, las tomas nos permiten observar posturas, escalas, arpegios, trémolos, etc. Gracias a estas tomas, seguro que algunos que estaban pensando en aprender guitarra, ahora sí que se animaron. Escribí sin ironía ni sarcasmo; es un agradecimiento sincero.

recuerdo cuando vino a Chile y semanas antes que hiciera el concierto en Chile en el canal 13 promocionaba que lo iban a transmitir, esperaba con ansias ese día, hasta que lo vi. Tenía 15 años.

Recuerdo haber visto este concierto en vivo por TV con apenas 11 años. Desde ese entonces que el Conciero de Aranjuez se transformó en uno de mis favoritos. Si bien prefiero la interpretación de Paco de Lucía, esta fue igualmente notable. Fue un privilegio tener al maestro Yepes en Chile.... Muy lindo recuerdo!
