I was fortunate to have played for him when I was a teenager. My heart was beating so hard I swear I could see my guitar moving in and out as I played. Had a few more master classes with him in the 70's. He was very kind and patient. He was truly an "artist" a maestro.

I did not get to play for the Maestro himself, but I did play for Oscar Ghiglia, Christopher Parkening and Michael Lorimer, each of whom absorbed in their own way, some of his beautiful tone, lyricism, and commitment to excellence. I learned the most from Lorimer, largely because I played for him twice. O.G. was a fine performer, but I would not wish him on anyone as a teacher. C. Parkening, on the other hand, was sincere, gracious and kind. It was an honor to meet him

I saw Mr. Segovia perform at the Academy of Music in Phila Pa , just 3 months before he died. After about 5 minutes of warming up on less challenging material , he spent the rest of the evening mezmerizing the sold-out show audience with astonishing perfection. All of us were so respectfully silent as he played ! I could have been the one and only audience there , and the respectful stillness of the crowd would be equal to just myself holding my breath.

I saw Andres Segovia in New York in 1964. It was magnificent and one of the best experiences in my life. I had the opportunity to meet him in Montclair< new Jersey a few years later. He talked about his son. Listening to his guitar was a transcendental experience for all of us. He sent me a Christmas card that year. Years later I met a woman whose late husband's dream had been to meet Segovia. So I sent her the Christmas card that I had received from Segovia. It was all magical.

Andres Segovia made regular appearances on the Ed Sullivan variety show. This is the same show that introduced the Beatles to US audiences. I was wonderful that Ed Sullivan was able to spread the beauty and talent of this fine musician to millions of viewers.
I also had the great opportunity to hear him perform at the Brooklyn Academy of Music with college classmates. At that concert - when the audience continued talking as he sat down to play - Segovia spoke gently and walked off the stage briefly until you could hear "a pin drop". One of my friend's guitar teachers knew Segovia; this enabled us to briefly meet him backstage after the concert.! What an amazing evening, and I even had him autograph my program!

To my ear, Andres Segovia plays like a fine Blues guitarist in that he is telling a story with his playing. The technical aspects, as profoundly outstanding as they are, are in support of setting a scene and presenting an experience. It's mastery in service of a greater, expressive goal. I've never heard another classical guitarist with this level of humanity.

There are musicians, then there are musicians. Senior Segovia had a magical ability to sense exquisite timing, and a deeply romantic heart to carry us away to places that we can only dream of. His music brings on technicolor waves of imagery of castles, and ancient windmills, olive trees, and scenes of romantic longing. This music should be played for all children so they may learn to become fully human. It's not for the faint of heart.

A few years ago I was listening to Christmas music by various artists. When Andreas Sagovia played Greensleeves, my heart melted. All my life I've loved music from the 50s till now and never have I ever heard another guitarist that comes close to him. Shamefully, I've been under a rock for decades but I have been trying to absorb all his selections and teachings with his students. I'm absolutely in love with his music.

While studying Segovia's music on my guitar I came upon what I regarded as an impossible set of notes. It was impossible to finger these at 1 and the same time. "THIS is pure Andres!" I thought. I committed the question to sleep. About 3 years later the answer rose suddenly from the depths. L hand middle finger close 1st position E. RIGHT hand index finger close E note in 2nd position (G string). Pluck 3 E notes at same moment with R hand middle, & ring fingers plus the thumb. Pure ultimate Andres.

@@johnpoulter2680 keep in mine that Segovia never had a teacher to help him to know how to be a wonderful teacher. He was a self taught genius. Makes sense that he'd get frustrated when his students fell short every now and then. I'm not excusing Segovia, I'm just understanding that his ability to teach himself, and master the classical guitar all alone is the reason his teaching was tuff. Even Segovia's father broke his son's guitar and told him not to play it, to let it go. How Andre Segovia continued to teach himself is beyond me. He was like 6 or 8 yes old. I don't know the exact age but he was quite young. Segovia is an absolute genius. He even admitted his gift was from heaven.

In the 70's, all I listened to was what played on "Rock" Stations, and if it wasn't an electric guitar I wasn't listening to it...and one day in my car flipping through the FM dial, I stumbled upon an incredible rendition of what turned out to be "Recuerdos de las Alhambras" which changed my brain chemistry as it applied to the guitar. I was transfixed by the fluidity and soul of that performance, and of course I waited impatiently to hear who and what was playing. I had vaguely recalled hearing his name prior to that moment, and in those moments I learned why.

There area few that possess more technical ability, but his phrasing and tonal colors better than other mechanical guitarists....just my opinion. His performance of the Chaconne here is as good as you will find anywhere. I got to see him play once while studying guitar in college.

This album has lifted me above and carried me through hard times many times over. He is a master, and God sent.
As an evidential and medical medium, I am faced with very sensitive situations daily. Sometimes I experience terrible migraines. I will draw an epsom salt and lavender bath, dim the lights and turn this album on low. Everything slowly melts away.

Segovia's ability to 'Orchestrate" on the guitar
    gave it so much color.
Still the most expressive player who takes one on a musical journey with each piece. I hear modern interpretations of music he has recorded, and I still come back to his interpretations.
I have the same feeling about Arthur Rubenstein on the piano.

I don't have tiny fingers of Kyuhee Park nor seemingly oversized fingers of Andres Segovia, yet can't even attempt to imitate their skills nor any of their musical interpretations. Listening to Segovia playing is a delightful experience.
