    Some of these "similar to another type" types only make sense if the physical/special move split never happened. e.g wood as a physical counterpart to grass, and wind as a special counterpart to flying.

      They never did this before the physical special split, though. There's no physical counterpart to any of the special types, and some of the phys/special decisions make no sense. Ghost was a physical type despite the only ghost type (in the type's debut gen) being a special attacker. Dark was a special type despite Bite and Crunch being Dark. Shadow Ball was a physical attack but still had a chance to lower special defense for some reason.

As an Apex Type, it would act more like a buff to a Pokémon’s current type (if they are mono-type. Those with 2 types would loose the type that was either weaker or didn’t hold up compared to the other type), and give it a boost in moves that made it sturdy and hard to beat, but not impossible. I would just like to say that Gamefreak doesn’t add types because they’re thematically appropriate to a lot of Pokémon; in all cases they are done to balance the game. Dark and Steel both countered the notoriously overpowered Psychic type and Steel was an answer the less noted but equally overpowered Normal Type in Gen 1. Fairy was created to keep the OP Dragons in check as well as counter Fighting Types, which were also very strong in Gen 5.
    The issue is that now, Steel and Fairy are almost at the same point now as Dragon was in Gen 5: Steel resists more than half of the types, is immune to toxic, and hits Fairies for supereffective damage. Fairy Carries an important dragon immunity as well as being an over all incredibly balanced type that excels in both defense and offense, since nothing is immune to fairy damage aside from shedinja and it hits most types for at lea at neutral damage.
    The Sound type would be a great answer to both; Sound could hit steel for supereffective due to how most metals reflect sound very well, being used in instruments like Trumpets, Saxophones, and Vibraphones. Sound could also hit Fairy for supereffective since Noise Pollution from cities is part of driving nature away from them; being that Fairy is a nature oriented type with the likes of nymphs and dryads, noise can hurt nature the same way that poisons can.

    OR
    Just need to add the Sound Type which sole purpose is to drag Water, Fairy and Steel down from S tier to A Tier with the rest and bump Bug to good tier and Dark and Fighting back up to A Tier too
    Super against
    Water - Sound travels fast in water
    Fairy - Sound Polution effects nature
    Steel - Sound Travels fast in Steel
    Psychic - Sound is irritating to the mind that is trying to concentrate - BUT Psychic now doesn't deal less damage to Steel and is now Neutral against Steel
    Attacks Weak Against
    Sound - Loud noises cancel each other out
    Bug - Bugs are just as noisy as Sound
    Flying - Sound can't interfere with Wind
    Dark - Dark types are sly and sneaky not loud and brash
    Fighting - Try screaming after someone has winded you
    Defensive Advantage
    Fairy
    Water
    Steel
    Ground - Sound travels fast in the ground
    NOT Psychic however they still deal normal damage
    Defensive Type Disadvantage (Take damage against)
    Bug - More for balance and as above
    Ice - When your cold you can't get your breath to scream / More for balance
    Dark - Dark types are sly and words can't harm them
    Fighting - Again as above a good punch winds you making you unable to shout or sing
    Now you see Sound travels fastest in solids but giving Rock, Grass, Ground and Ice another set of weaknesses will just off the types . So steel can be the Solids candidate and Water is the Liquid

But then I noticed that...yeah, it doesn't really play well with the typechart. Yeah, i agree with your points here. Sound or "Sonic" would actually be one of the few new types that could actually serve a purpose, cover a good number of existing mons and attacks, and provide a good base for new content too. From a scientific standpoint, i know that lots of attacks that wouldn't really qualify as sound use vibrations, but from a "common sense" standpoint there's a obvious difference between earthquake and sonic boom. It would also make it a bit easier for users to know which moves are covered by sound-related abilities, which already exist.

Finding a bunch of Pokémon with an unlabeled type, determining its strengths and weaknesses, trying to figure out what its true nature is by seeing what similarities exist among all the Pokémon that have the type, and then the eventual reveal as a reward for your efforts. The biggest problem I see with this is that if this was ever done in an official Pokémon game the true type would be shown all over the internet openly the day of release and 99% of people would be spoiled way before getting the chance to have too much fun actually exploring the mystery. Could be super awesome for a fan game but it still might be hard to avoid having the mystery spoiled.

They're Pokemon that like fighting or are disciplined in fighting, which makes very little sense when you quickly realize a good portion of the Pokemon games is the Pokemon actually fighting each other. Now, it could be due to a translation error when localizing the original series, but a type being called Fighting just seems kind of pointless to me. To be fair, a type that is all about physical discipline and being ready to fight does make sense; it's the choice of name for the type have an issue with. there is one thing with the flying and wind type thing, and that is if they wanted to do a pokemon that cant fly but has wind powers then it would be hard, since they could have the flying type but they cant fly. for example; i came up with the idea of a grass porcupine than manipulate its quills via wind, but it cant fly, but what type do i give it? electric doesnt work, it cant fly, so the only thing left to do is change it from wind to psychic manipulation instead, which takes away heavily from the idea. maybe if they did want to do this in some way then they could just change the flying type to wind via name only, keeping the bird moves but adding upon the wind ideas.
    edit: they could rename the flying type to air that way it could encompass both birds and wind, making it so they dont have to change type relations but giving more leeway with pokemon with general wind properties. just an idea though.

    Honestly, I think the Sound type runs into the redundancy issue as well. Most moves that'd be considered Sound are already covered adequately by the wind subcategory of Flying moves, by Grass, Bug, or Steel for sounds made by specific implements, Normal type, and so on. And I've never seen a _good_ list of proposed strengths and weaknesses that would both help to balance the game _and_ follow logically from how sound actually operates, only ever one or the other. We don't _need_ another thing for Steel and Water, already two of the best types, to resist and we don't _need_ another thing for Rock and Ice, neither particularly good types defensively at this point, to be weak to.
    Fairy was redundant with Psychic and Ghost _conceptually_ when introduced, but it actually made the game a lot more balanced and its weaknesses were mostly logical. Steel was redundant with Rock when introduced, but was made distinct enough mechanically to justify its existence.

    • @jimmynason6833
      @jimmynason6833 2 года назад +2

      As someone who has worked with the idea of adding a sound type to Pokémon, it isn't that hard to balance. Heck it would probably be super effective against water and steel since sound travels better in solids and liquids than in gasses such as air. I could also imagine it being super effective against fairy as loud noises and chants can chase away Fey creatures. The actual difficulty comes from making logical weaknesses for sound type that could help balance the type chart. Though personally I'd go with it being weak against Bug, Poison, and Psychic types

    • @RoninCatholic
      @RoninCatholic 2 года назад +1

      @@jimmynason6833 Your list is literally just "make it weak to types that are weak, strong to types that are strong" and the only one in that whole list that flows logically for Sound as a type is Fairy being weak to it. Better to come up with a _different_ "elemental" concept that can justify being strong against at least two of Fairy, Dragon, Steel, and Water and weak to at least two of Bug, Grass, Poison, and resisted by Ice.
      Basically, there's no _conceptual_ niche that Sound as a type can fit to justify tossing it in for "balance" reasons.

Also snow can dampen sounds, giving them a resistance. As I mentioned I'm more proud of my super advantage list rather my weaknesses list

    • @RoninCatholic
      @RoninCatholic 2 года назад

      @@jimmynason6833 Except neither water nor steal are _explained or justified_ as to why Sound would be highly effective against them. Indeed, Water is alongside Ground and Grass as an obvious thing to _resist_ Sound, and if using the "vibrations break hard, solid objects" logic to make Steel weak (an argument could be easily made to make Steel resist Sound) then it'd also hurt Rock (already mediocre) and Ice (terrible, especially defensively).

    • @jimmynason6833
      @jimmynason6833 2 года назад +1

      @@RoninCatholic perhaps I should go into more detail why water would be weak against sound. Not only do sound waves travel better in water, they also become amplified in water. Military Sonar, echolocation, the "Bloop", and Mantis Shrimp attacks are great examples of this. If a type's medium massively increase the range and power of another type than it should be weak to said type, just as water is already weak to electricity. I am also aware that you could make the same argument I made for steel being weak towards sound as one could for rock being weak to it, though even if it could make sense I'd still hold off on it for game balance. The one drawback is that I a matchup chart is lost on me right now. Maybe something with normal? Beats grass bug and water? Some type of electric and/or steel synergy? Ground weakness maybe? One type I was thinking about is a "Gas" type, It obviously will overlap a lot with Poison and Fire because Sulfur is a thing that exist, but not all Gases are poisonous, in particular i'd like to see a brand new pokemon based on Neon lights, and Neon being a noble gas would fit perfectly
    Besides "Gas" could bend its definition to fit more into a "Smell" type side giving some Grass types a second typing thanks to that flowery smell I'm sure some of them have, as well as other pokemon that use both good and bad smells to either protect themselves or attract prey
    The obvious pokemon that could become gas type would be:
    -Ghastly becoming Gas/Poison (tho Haunter and Gengar would stay as Ghost/Poison since they both stop being gasses and become just regular ghosts)
    -Koffing and its evolution Wheezing would become Gas/Poison too
    -Torkoal who emanates some type of smoke, likely sulfur, constantly is an obvious Fire/Gas
    -Drifloon and Drifblim who are quite litterally hellium balloons are an obvious Ghost/Gas
    -Munna's evolution, Musharna, emits some sort of gas that quote "makes your nightmares a reality", this is likely to be 'laughing gas' or Nitrous Oxide
    Then as I said one of the smell based pokemon that could also fit would be Spritzee and Aromatisse since they both specialize is creating pleasent smells to attract others
    Of course theres also many other "smell based" pokemons that justify themselves as poison types since well they produce a bad smell, not quite a toxic smell more like an annoyance, the one they produce, an example would be the oddish like that makes pollen that many people are allergic too, but like all flowers i'm sure many others are completely inmune to the allergies it can produce and kind of enjoy the smell of fresh spring pollen, not quite what I'd expect of a Poison type, but many would disagree so whatever
    It's not the most well developed idea for a new type since I'm only 1 person, but I hope others can see there could be potential to make something cool here

    The Light type could cover multiple ideas similar to Fairy-type; divine or godly powers and magic, cosmic, plasma and light rays (I think most plasma-like moves and Pokemon are already covered by the lightning and fire types, so I wouldn't replace those typings).
    Two major things make this idea no longer viable in the series. The first is that this typing would need to have been introduced before the Fairy type to work for moves and typing. The Fairy type already covers multiple ideas that the Light type would, this means that the Fairy type would need to cover much less than it does and while I think that would be a good thing it's much too late now.
    The second is only really one Pokemon that I know of truly embodies the idea and wouldn't need to be reworked to introduce this typing, Nekrozma. All other Pokemon would need to be changed or reworked in some way to properly fit the typing.
    So while the Light type could work in concept it's much too late to be introduced now. It could work in a fan game or spin-off but it needed to be introduced around the same time as the Fairy type to fit in the mainline games.

    This very properly conveys my annoyance with new type suggestions. Even sound is redundant, as Normal acts as the stand in with Hyper Voice, Echoed Voice, Boomburst, Roar, and Uproar all being normal. Sound is also more of a "sub type", where it has its own properties such as going through Substitute, but that also means that other moves with types already can't have the Sound type. We cannot afford to lose one of two Special Bug type moves for the sake of having more Sound moves. It's kind of like if Bite was made into its own type. What would happen to Fire Fang, Ice Fang, Thunder Fang, Psychic Fang, Poison Fang, etc?
    The only solution I could see is if we have a huge overhaul of the types, making moves able to be two types like Flying Press as just a regular thing. At a point I can also see some of the other types that are redundant being added like Light.

    As someone who likes thinking about types like this, adding new types is one way of balancing the types so that, for example, Ice and Rock aren't as bad as they are now. Typically, new types are the best way to change it, as changing the base will confuse veterans, and it lets people understand how each type interaction works. Too bad a lot of these types are quickly taken down as redundant.
    Two types that are redundant are actually Ground and Rock. Ground is more based on loose soil, stuff that can easily shift around, while Rock represents more sedimentary stuff. The same could be said comparing other new types; Psychic is more based upon esper and the mind while Cosmic is focused on space and aspects related to space.
    In my opinion? Light, as an actual physical thing, could be related to prisms and vibrant colors, or the absence of them, has a good shot at arguing itself as a type. In terms of fictional light magic, Fairy definitely has it covered, but I'd prefer focusing more-so on actual light rather than the implied holiness of it. Same with Sound; while a lot of Normal moves are part of this Soundproof class of moves, it's distinct enough that you could argue for it to be distinct. Many Pokemon have Sound-based designs, and having a distinct type would help set them apart and make Normal a bit less crowded, though moves like Overdrive would have to be reworked in some strange ways, same with Toxtricity.

It may even be possible to expand it to cover aerial and aquatic beasts like Staraptor and Schooling Wishiwashi.
    There’s a plethora of existing moves it could cover; basically anything animalistic or wild, like take down/double-edge, fury swipes/attack, skull bash, growl/leer/howl/etc, roar/noble roar, odor sleuth, thrash, the list goes on.
    For typing it could be effective against rock, ground, and ice since beasts conquer land. They can resist these types as well as bug and grass since beasts are typically predators.
    Additionally, they could either be weak or resistant to other beast types for this reason.
    And they could be weak to fire, fighting, and steel types since those are more human-like and technological. Dragon could also be a weakness since dragons are considered apex predators that feed on other beasts.
    They can also be immune to/not affect ghost since normal and fighting types already do this for the same thematic logic. And while it may be a stretch, they can also be immune to fairy, mainly for the competitive check, but can be justified as fairies are make-believe and beasts are real, therefore fairies have no affect on them. This is why fairy is strong against fighting because humans believe in fairies and steel deals with them by representing science and modern technology whereas fairies are fictional.
