    Marianela and Vadream are the absolute dream team. Both just have that expert, crisp technique which allows them to dance so freely. They bring out the absolute best in each other.

    “Franz is young and naughty, so I’m just being me” Vadim?? Sweet prince Vadim? I refuse to believe it.

      On the contrary, I believed what he said :) He is mischievous in the best possible way... Please refer to his Instagram page to see his shenanigans, it will make you laugh or at least smile with a sense of adoration :D
      I also have one Ballerina friend who lucky enough to join in the summer course in Prague where Vadim was teaching and she said that Vadim is funny, laid-back, and humble :) Which makes it even greater that... he has this super-human ability as a dancer and athlete yet at the same he showcase such qualities of being a regular person, just like the rest of us. I certainly hope that someday I will be able to meet Vadim and Marienal face to face :)

    I feel like every ROH version of a classic becomes my favorite version whenever I watch it - especially if it has Marianela in it! This is such a beautiful and funny production, honestly. I couldn't stop laughing in the second act! Utterly brilliant!

    Gary Avis is the BEST Dr Coppelius ever! No other Dr Coppelius' performance comes even close to his. I have seen this ballet on DVD numerous times and I still laugh at his scenes with Swanilda (beautiful Marianela, stunning as always!) and Franz (Vadim: what more can one say about him? He is sheer perfection!). It's such a joyous ballet -- just what we need at this time of separation from family, friends ... and theatre!

      You are absolutely right and perhaps character dancers don’t get the recognition they deserve in the U.K. I think he makes the Royal Ballet’s production of the Nutcracker and I cannot imagine anyone else in the role of Drosselmeyer. He is truly a superb artist.

    Had the pleasure of seeing this cast on 29th November. Sensational. As others have said, please, please release this on DVD! Marianela is fabulously funny in this, from miming she wants to get the peasant girl dancing with Franz to eye-rolling at him mid-doll impression when he's passed out drunk in the toymaker's house. Spot on. This also being the same person who starred in the gorgeous televised version of Swan Lake last year makes her talent and versatility even more apparent.

    I watched this at the cinema on Tuesday - my first ROH cinema screening. I just desperately wanted to see Marianela dance this entire ballet, and it was well worth it. She is *beautiful* and I love her, and her partnership with Vadim is wonderful to watch. The extra behind-the-scenes bits and commentary (Anita Rani and Darcey Bussell) were fantastic as well.

    This ballet is so beautiful and whimsical. When Offenbach created an opera based on this ballet, I think he created a beautiful masterpiece. From an Opera perspective, the Doll Song is one of my favorite arias to sing. It's such a joy to see the original ballet. So fun!

      Hi can anyone answer this question i saw a video of mayara magri for swanhilda in the royal ballet channel that was dated 2019 and another video with marianela nunez for swanhilda still 2019. Were there perhaps 2 separate productions of coppelia in 2019?

    • @marionbayley1351
      @marionbayley1351 4 года назад

      During a run of a ballet at Covent Garden, the performances are shared between different dancers.
      Mayara and Marianela were just two of the principles who danced Swanhilda in 2019 but it was the same production.

      There is always more than one cast.. I think in the video where Mayara rehearses the costume lady says there were 8 different Swanhildas that season

    Why does Dr Coppelio have to be Jewish tho? As a Jew, and with the respect that I have for the dancers, I think the costume department has went too far with the racial stereotypes.

    Here's my take on Coppelia : like all great comedy plots, there is a dark, dark streak in it., and also it remains fresh and relevant. There are complex themes of control, deception, persecution, age, gender and 'pretty doll' vs real woman. Swanhilda is a real girl, feisty, brave, loving, naughty, self absorbed, vulnerable. Danish and American productions reflect this. The RB seems to dismiss all this and calls it just a sweet and pretty fairy story. Sorry but all fairy stories have a dark side. The RB has lost the plot.
