    I've done my fair share of blaming healers but I've learned that they can only do so much. On my rogue I play pretty reckless and I know I shouldn't. I understand that I am a nightmare for healers so I use leeching poison just to make their job a little bit easier. Thank you healers for putting up with my crap.

    Healers > All. As a tank, I have so much respect for you guys and I apologize that you kinda get fucked over constantly. I honestly think that healing is the HARDEST role in the game. I, personally, have never been able to heal efficiently or successfully. So just know that I've got a lot of love for you guys.

      Devoted Defender Healing is not easy indeedly,asurely not if you start with Holy Paladin ( in my oppinion :3) but nevermind hehe.....Its good to hear that there is some respect from tanks hehe, but never forget that without dps -> there will be no point in defeating a boss, without a tank-> the dps'es will be killed so swiftly till nothing remains due to threat and tactics and stuff, without healers-> Evryone would easily die :P, WoW is in a balance take one of the role's away and you will get nothing out of your raid/dung, and thats what young players or Hardcore players dont see, evry role is difficult on his own way, but still thanks for the repsect mate!

      It's nice to see tanks actually do care for the healers. It's really becoming a rare thing to see with all the 'oh we wiped blame the healer' for the record I have huge respect for tanks as well XD I couldn't tank to save my life

    • @glenabell5068
      @glenabell5068 9 лет назад

      +Devoted Defender , i'm sure you did a lot better job healing than you give yourself credit for. i've done my share of all three roles and will openly admit GOOD tanking is far and away much more difficult than healing on my best day. like tuskeh pointed out in his tanking video, as a tank YOU control who gets their face punched. please don't give up trying to learn to get better healing. keep practicing, never let yourself think that you've learned everything, and if you ever DO feel you've learned everything, do something completely obnoxious to test your limits. you might accidentally prove yourself wrong.

      i've been playing as a healer/support role for 10 years i guess (mmorpg, moba, fps) it's not easy though imo tanking is a bit harder, i'd like to play a tank spec anytime but i'm scared i could mess up the entire game haha

    HOLY FREAKING COW!!!! This is one of the best healing guides I have watched! I currently have a lvl 77 priest and have been watching some healing guides to prepare me for raiding in the next 20 or so levels. This has been my favorite one, love the passion and the content of the video, I haven't seen healing meters yet (I might have them off) but when I do I will not heed them. Thanks for this great video!!!!!

    I am a healer and i do agree with you... WE ARE AWESOME!!!!
    Joking aside i 100% agree with you.
    Some healers just spam away using no skill and do not care if someone dies.They do not stand there ressing dead people (they let die) when the raid are all running to the next fight because they might miss out on there precious heal stats.They also ignore people if they have gone out of range of the pack because they get better stats if they group heal rather then just heal 1 person.I am not not like this at all and i am always the one ressing 3 people 1 at a time when we have 6 healers and i throw a shield on myself and run into danger to heal that 1 person because i do care about losing 1 even at the cost of my own personal stats.I will also save my big heals for the right time when we need them rather then just spam then over and over and then be on cooldown when the raid needs them.They miss 1 vital stat from the heal meter...caring about the raid and all the people in it.This stat in my mind is the most important.
    BTW you reminded me of will from the inbetweners in this vid. Some parts really made me laugh

    I had this mindset, being for the raid, ignoring meters, etc. for the longest time. Recently, getting BiS heroic gear, being the leader of a raid group, and in general going back to my competitive ways, I've lost touch with this. I'm really happy I came across this video to get me back on the right track. As long as my team succeeds, and we've all done our jobs, the numbers shouldn't matter :)

    I'm new to WoW, but I played a healer on Realm Reborn for a long time.
    People are saying they've been kicked just because they did a low amount of healing? A healers job is to keep the group alive, that is the ONLY criteria a healer should be judged on. Really enjoyed your video and was very encouraged by it as well, as most of the things you say healers should be doing, I do already! I didn't even know there was a healing bar in all honesty.

    • @inessmet8094
      @inessmet8094 9 лет назад

      0saintclark0 Indeed the right words! The only criteria is keeping the group alive, but wow changed way to much :P Now the only thing that matters are numbers, whats kind of sick :P

    In general, the more HPS your healers are doing, the worse your group is doing. My guild was comparing logs from the top-end guilds on fights in ICC and saying "our healers are doing more HPS than their healers, why are we dying?" The answer is that the only way we could do more HPS is if the group took more damage, and the increased damage we took is what was killing us.
    Healing meters can be a good way to A) determine who is healing off assignment, B) determine which healers are not putting out sufficient numbers, and C) using other aspects of recount to troubleshoot wipes (such as death logs).
    They're also useful for situations where a tank healer is absolutely terrible and the other healers have to help in order to keep the tank alive. A guild I was raid healing in BWD kept having DPS die, because I was too busy helping heal the off-tank. At that time, we had 3 healers doing about 12k, 11k, and 5k healing (the 5k was the one on the off tank). I was told to stop helping, and over the next several attempts, the off-tank died every time. While it isn't all about HPS, the fact that one healer was topping out at less than half of each of the others was a significant hindrance to the raid.

    • @danielcarroll7654
      @danielcarroll7654 8 лет назад

      well most of ur comment is true except the only way u can do more HPS is if ur group takes more Damage. The way the meter works is showing only the heal cast on that toon. It doesnt matter how lit or damaged ur group is, they still take the heal even at full health and the meter registers this. So someone can actually get very high HPS and actually not hardly heal anyone if they are at full health.

    • @danielskrivan6921
      @danielskrivan6921 8 лет назад

      daniel carroll
      Most healing meters disregard overhealing done. That's tracked in other meters within Recount. The only HPS being tracked is effective HPS in any meter worth looking at.

    Hey Tuskeh. I just listened to this track and must i say, i haven't heard someone talking like this for a long time. With some stops in between, i have started raiding in mid-TBC and listening to you brings me back to how healing was before WoLK (and worse on Cataclysm) came live. Healing IS exactly how you describe it - tatical, prediction, seeing who's around and where they're standing, smart healing, coordination, and not relying on numbers in the slightest. Man your video was a loaf of fresh air from the heavy skill-less selection nowadays in WoW. You say WoD is bringing a bit back of that style of Healing? Thank god, i miss those days where healers were actually whispering during the raid assigning single target healing tanks, groups to keep up, emergency roles.

    • @Tuskeh

      Tuskeh
      In order to happen, the mechanics have to become less based on raid damage all the time. Back on TBC, we had things like RNG (random stuff that weren't set on a timer), Crushing Blows (Random tank 1-shot), Crit Blows, Resistance Gear for specific fights, where spam healing was obsolete, inteligent healing was the deal, and good healers were rare, and there was no mambo jambo of smart healing equipments that take all the fun out of healing. Hoping to come back to raiding on WoD if that heads in that direction :)

    Loved it! So many healers these days spam their healing and run out of mana immediately. Its sad as a tank to watch that at 100. A healer that is constantly saying "Mana. 1 min plz" is a very sad healer. On the flip side, as a healer myself, the meters have never done anything but stress me out. I watch it and get worried I"m not pumping out enough - yet, I'm keeping people alive so I just flip it over to the DPS instead to know who to emergency heal (after tank) should something big hit. I've now moved over to the Horde side and finally got my first Enhanced Shaman up to 100. Moving over to Resto the instant I get the gear to start with it. Thanks Tusk for all your great video's... VERY encouraged after watching all of your vids. :)

    • @ascendednightingale2456
      @ascendednightingale2456 9 лет назад

      ***** It's not always the healer's fault if he runs out of mana, though. Everyone depends on one another. I've been in dungeons and raids where I've run out of mana extremely quickly because a bad tank aggroed everything, couldn't hold them, and everyone took massive damage, including me. If one person screws up, it could screw it up for everyone else.

    Nice, I am some what new to healing and now have my Resto Druid in the 80s by just doing 5 man. I am making tank friends because I actually heal as you suggest. I do use recount for overhealing, i try to keep my overheal to 15-20% but often hit 25. On a personal side I try to have a higher activity than the tank which is usually close. I am far from experienced but have had few complaints which I take as a compliment. Thank you for the video.

    "The aren't thinking about themselves." Yep, I can second this, so much. The amount of times i've died due to healer tunnel vision, focused so much on the raids hp bars that I neglect my own. The only things I really found recount helpful with for healing was reflective, analyzing peoples rotations and target but yeah, I agree entirely with the points you make. You being a regular healer that your guild trusts makes you a good healer, not recount looking pretty! :D

    Tuskeh is so right about the healing meter, i just joined the world of healers a month ago , and i was in a raid group where they had such a meter, a dude whispered me and said '' Why are you kind of slacking behind? Your a resto shaman you should be OP'', i was kind of suprised didtn know what to say so i kind of said what i useally say about meters, '' Meters are just some numbers, in my opinion healing means that you take up the reponsibility to keep them alive with your heart, not with your numbers.'', never heard that dude again :P Same goes to dps'ers if you slack behind, youre out, its just so sick :(

  • @houstonjdd
    @houstonjdd 10 лет назад +1

    Yea the meters don't help. I've been called out in an LFR, I just laughed. Next fight, top healer... over-healed, chain healed like no tomorrow, struggled with mana, but proved my point. With DPS it helps (even that is debatable), with healing, conserving mana and knowing what single target and aoe heal is best to use based on the mechanics of the fight is the way to-do it. Loved the video, good seeing that "old school" kill ;)

  • @risingshawdo

    Tuskeh as odd as this is going to sound, in the "old game footage" is the seed with the timer a counter to keep track of lifebloom? And if so is there anyway you could tell me how to get it? Trying to improve my healing on my druid and that would help a ton

    So glad to see other people have the same views as me. I may not be a veteran wow player who was playing since vanilla but I still don't see the point in trying to have the best overall healing. What's the point of having the best overall healing if you and your raid group are currently lying on the floor?

  • @rockysap6516
    @rockysap6516 8 лет назад +1

    I started playing WoW about a week or two ago. I began dungeon healing at level 30 which I really enjoy for the most part. The other part is that I struggle with rushing party members. Quite often the tank, or dd, just rushes through the dungeon, taking on several groups of mobs. Sometimes even before I have taken all the quests.
    After a heavy pull it's not too strange that I need to heal myself and some others just for a couple of seconds. But no, mister big shot tank has no time for that and is already around the corner fighting the next packs of mobs.
    I'd love to have some advice regarding this issue.

    • @Tuskeh
      @Tuskeh  8 лет назад +1

      The best way to handle folks that are rushing is to communicate! Most people have full heirlooms and are very confident, so it's important to let them know that they shouldn't be so fast. If they ignore you, there's not much you can do - just try to keep the Tank and yourself alive, since you can take on just about everything together.

    Thanks so much for this video. While I came to realize this on my own, it needs to be put out there so much.
    Initially, i focused on my hps like crazy as I got into healing. How can i be better, faster, etc. Then it hit me. I'm not a damage guy. more isn't better....more is worse. I play Disc, so maybe this is just me, but the point for my spec as I've learned it is to "prevent or avoid" the damage, not mass healing. If my hps is high, that means I'm failing my job to prevent and keep the damage to a minimum. So I have to learn how to tweak every skill i have to prevent damage, and repair it as tightly as possible when i can't.
    And in 68 levels, I've only had about one wipe, two ooms, and can count the number of people who've died on me in less than a hundred. And those were mostly because the tank aggroed waaaay to many things, mostly by accident. I haven't gotten to raid healing, but it's an attitude I hope takes me far. Learn my fights, be prepared. Everything nice and creamy.

    Hi Tuskeh thank you for the informative video. It is a bit dated but still very valuable. I am a relatively new player being a little less then 2 years now. I started the game off with the DPS specs as any good player should. I am not taking away from the importance of DPS just that you as a DPS player are straight forward the important part in surviving any raid or dungeon. I have now progress towards healing and brought my level 100 priest up without ever healing in a dungeon or raid and did it in holy spec. Why you might ask? Because of what you say in this video. People look at the meeter and not at what actually happens. I will back up a bit. I did bring my priest into a dungeon early on and after trying in vain to tell the ID10Ts that I was new at the game and they should go slow, of course they ignored me, I decided that I would just quest learning how to survive in the game with the lowest damaging class in the game. Did that make me a good healer? Not on your life, no way no how.Anyway after finally deciding to use my healer in raids and struggling through the silver proving grounds I can now raid and dungeon. Like many players I have my recount on and though I dont look at the HPS I do look at healing done. I am never at the top and I dont expect to be there. My job is to keep the raid alive. I have done only a few dungeons with her so I will only talk on the raids I have done. So you might guess I never did anything in Mysts of Pandaria. You will be right. I have done one raid 3 times in WoD. I have done the first wing in the Highmaul group. What I have noticed because I am a holy priest I will never ever be top of the meeter. I can say though DPS need to do their job and not stand in poop. Tanks need to do their job of keeping agro. When those classes do their jobs we healers can do ours with as few interupts as possible. Thanks again for the video. I will look for an updated one from you for WoD.

My meter gets up when i need to aoe heal but at the start of a fight in ougs its just not fair that i cant heal that fast.. ppl blame me of being a bad healer and such. Got kicked out of pugs even if we didnt wipe. But on the other hand i kick ass in lfr cuz most of us are same ilvl but in pugs i suck even with same rotation i use in lfr. Is it me or is it due to the fact that other healing classes heal so much faster?

  • @michaellebron9425

    I understand what you are saying but meters gauge how well we do. If one healer is doing 45% of the overall healing on a fight and the healer below them is doing half that and the raid wipes. Meters show that this person can't keep up. So that's why they are replaced. What do you do then?

    • @Tuskeh
      @Tuskeh  10 лет назад +3

      The meters don't show that, I'm afraid; it depends on the fight. On a purely Patchwerk fight, with no absorbs, and where the raid is NEVER at 100% health, sure - but no fight is like that. What about overhealing? Absorbs? What about the other players in the raid? I've always been of the opinion that meters don't determine skill, especially with healers; a typical healing done or HPS meter won't show overhealing, which is essentially wasted healing (I am ignoring the cloak proc here, because the cloak and its proc is part of a design system that is going away come Warlords of Draenor). From what I've found, you can tell weaker healers out by watching the raid as they heal; if they can't keep up with bursts of damage when it's their turn to use their cooldowns; if they struggle to heal and deal with fight mechanics; things like that.
      Meters have always been an interesting addition to WoW, but not one that should dominate your judgement of other players' skill. We haven't even discussed effective dispelling, cooldown management or playstyle. I'm not disagreeing with the fact that the meters are helpful - but you shouldn't use JUST the healing meters as a reason to replace someone.

      I'm not a healing main like you just my alt, but Lebron has a point, it does "gauge" performance, but there are so many nuisances to healing. I've found healers in my own guild at one point who we thought were awesome in our 25 man due to his healing output, only to see the clear weaknesses in a 10 man.
      But if someone is doing little to know healing it's a problem.

      Something that Tuskeh didn't mention, I don't know that the meters are even 100% accurate. I've watched my DPS meters (while playing DPS), then compared notes with other DPS after the fight, and the numbers rarely match up. Sometimes even the order of best-to-worst isn't right! I bet the healing meters aren't any better.

      Michael Lebron Well its difficult to understand the word ''replacing'' it hurts me evry time sombody mentions it, and i know how it sucks to have a bad healer, but a /kick will not help him/her, it will only help yourself and the group. And that won't make him learn things :P

    Could totally go on a huge rant about healing and how Blizz ruined it with LK, and then players ruined it with spamming heals but I think you pretty much did that for me. I started out playing a Holy Pally back in 06', started out healing BGs, then went to raids. Didn't get very far with any of the guilds I was in but then LFR came around and that helped. I went from a super efficient raid healer that my guilds would schedule raids around to just being another healer. Pallies went from the best single target healer or tank healers to this crappy "Lets make all healers the same" crap. (Sorry, rant happened anyways.)
    I loved healing so much in WoW that every class that could heal, I healed on but Blizz and the spam healers just changed it so much and destroyed how I looked at healing to the point where I have since given up healing, been Ret since near the end of Panda. Honestly I miss healing and have since tried to go back to it but have found that I am no longer a good healer as WoD content seems to just kick my ass all over the place. I have forgotten my class (I used to be a master of the Holy spec), I don't know what the abilities do anymore (lots of them have changed or been deleted and new ones added) and so it is just easier to stay a Ret Pally doing my thing.
    All and all I wanted to say thanks for throwing this out there, even if it was over a year ago, and honestly I am glad to see by all the comments that I am not the only one who looked at healing the way I did. I miss healing but I am such a good Ret now and know nothing about Holy anymore that I am just lazily sticking to my current spec.
    Also, like the videos too. Watched a few of your WoD raids and guide videos. Love the clean looking UI. Going to be adjusting mine to look cleaner with the help of your UI walkthrough video. I use the generic WoW interface and have for ever, just looking for something cleaner. Keep up the good work.
    (Sorry for the long post)

    I completely agree, If the raid survives then it's not really a problem. If two healers are pumping the shit out of HPS then obviously there is less for the 2 following healers to heal during parts of the raid as it is well and truly "covered" no point wasting cd's and mana in this situation when all you need to add is a tickle... BUT this could come across as being a "shit healer" due to low meter stats even thought they might have saved the raid on multiple occasions with smart use of CD's and quick reaction healing ect. ect.
    HPS is bullshit but if you don't wanna be kicked you kinda have to pump it and contest those 2% heals opportunities.

    Does "NO! Fuck off, you're not dying if I have a say in it" count as being a nice person?... Besides if healing meters mattered everyone would play disc priest and completely skew those meters by taking all the heals for themselves so they can feel good about themselves... Oh.. WAIT..

    i never complain about healers in general, i complain about those idiots who ignore the the rest of the party and only focuses healing the tank and themselves. its a good idea to keep the tank alive however it gets harder to kill bosses and mobs when u dont have any help doing so. 99 percent of the healers ive come across have the right idea of keeping the whole party alive and then u have that 1 percent that is either stupid or coached by their tanky friend to only focus healing on them and fuck everyone else. i appreciate everything that tanks and healers do, i just dont appreciate that that idiot 1 percent that feel that letting u die and mock u for doing so is huge waste of time for the dungeon run. im mostly talking about pugs, theirs always that small chance that u get that idiot healer that feels that the whole game is focused on their judgement and that u arent worthy of healing. i dont bitch at healers nor curse them, for example when the party kills a mob and your almost dead the healer ignores u and heals only the tank and moves on leaving u to die and when u ask they say i dont give a shit about u. your not as important as the tank. this happens every friggin time i come across an idiot healer, are they all from the same womb or community of coached healers to only focus on tanks?

    it should be about what's needed not just padding the meters and for dps I am told itsn ot dps its dmg done well yes dmg done is important but dps shows me peoples skill and potential if they had more gear they would be doing more dmg so dmg for fight to go down but dps for dmg to go up in the future instead of just dmg for now if u wanna progress they need the skills they need the dps higher so there dmg will be higher in time its shows potential is bottom line but for heals ya its bad I agree but nada we can do about it there will be bad healers on top heals in grp that are top over heal almost no heals in the % ratio with healing done vs over heals and that says to me there a bad healer I don't care if there top on chats to me its about are u following mech and are you doing what's needed and not spamming heals on ppl with full hp and are u reliable. yes agreed its about keeping the raid alive. not the other junk but the over heals are bad so that shouldn't be mass high let alone almost the same as healing done thts abd heals if I look at heals I look at dispels and healing done and absorbs and over heals and hots and etc and see whats up not just one or 2 things to be stupid if u wanna see u look at all things or nada but in the end charts are only charts they don't tell you everything so u are right there too. I look at meters at the end I look over rarely but I don't try to get to the top I just try to follow mech and who needs heals and see what I need to do and do it check my mana and health cus if I die I am useless to the raid to heal them and heal tank cus if they die it attacks raid some if smart and no there class and what there doing should be able to hold the tanking job till a tank is able to get up but not the best idea but doable depending on the dmg and if the healers are smart enough to heal the dps with the boss. I always think of other 1st but learned I need to heal me too ovi or I am useless by healing me too I am helping others but yes it shouldn't be about meters but sadly if u don't atleast make sure u keep up its about meters to others so u will get kicked if ur doing ur job and keeping the raid alive so mainly I notice u just g2 do ur job and make sure ur atleast close to the 2nd lowest healer now ush I do my job and only g2 worry about heals cus I no I am at the top or close with just focusing on the raid but the rare times in grps it might not be like that by focusing on the raid and ppl don't care if ur doing there job they see meters and assume u are not so yes agreed but what do u expect when dealing with stupid I am dyslexic so I probly sound stupid but I don't care I can act stupid too its fun but as long as im not stupid im ok to act stupid for my own fun but im getting off topic back to the show. ya meters on my shaman I was low in wod but in the end I was the only one that kept the group up when it was mass dmg aoe and new when to use c/d and new where to go and what to do so they assigned heal rolls to all but me and they wanted me to heal for serten fights and not others cus of the meters but my prob was there was nada to heal exept in the aoe fights were the other heals had probs and I excelled in SoO I was always top on meters as a healer and low on over heals but near theend I learned I was wrong I was suppost to over heal cus the chain put a health buff on ppl and didn't no that be4 and I guess its part of there job so did that too but in wod they got rid of that and so it was dif I don't get shaman build to make them work with meter only to make it work for the raid so I stoped and monk tanked when quit cus rl stuff im back and on a priest meters are a bad thing they are the reason guild might not want u but how u play ur class is the reason they keep u other then who u are and what u do for the guild so meter are bad most ppl abuse them and there for don't heal good they just look like they are so yes agreed agreed agreed.

    i know this is an older video, but i'd still like to give a little feedback. first and foremost, your tone strongly suggests that you really believe what you're saying (the "go team go" parts). i would like to point out that i agree that a healer's skill can not be COMPLETELY measured by healing meters alone. this however doesn't mean that they are not still valuable if used correctly. pointing out the fact that YOU'RE running a healing meter (active in combat no less) isn't very constructive to telling new or inexperienced healers that they don't matter, especially doing so 39 seconds into your video. it would have been more constructive to focus on fundamentals like knowing what role you're specifically doing in an organized group (tank healing, raid healing, dangerous ability healing) and how that effects your total healing throughput. to be more precise, just because a healer's hps is low, doesn't mean they aren't doing their job. it could in fact mean that dps aren't complete bads standing in nono (not likely, but could happen) or they aren't as well geared as their fellow healers. something else you briefly touched on in this video, that i felt was more important than the 9.5 minutes of "meters don't matter", was that different classes are stronger for different kinds of healing as well as different encounters. i really liked your tanking video, but didn't care for this one so much. i really would like to see a reworked version of this video similar to your tanking video.
