    It is very heartening to hear you thoughtfully dissect a situation to show others where people skills are both helpful and needed. That said, I want to say you're healing officer was kind of being a dick and you going through hell IRL at the time fought fire with fire. We've all been there and for the record you could come heal/dps with my crew any day of the week. Godspeed my friend.

    "Work with your team" Very true. I remember leading a raid in Blackrock Foundry on HC or Mythic, one of either, and there was a Blood Dk, full mythic geared who decided to ninjapull the boss with 2 healer and 2 dps, while the rest of the group was outside the area, locked behind the wall. We kept telling him to wipe and reset because we had a BL buff on and wanted to do it properly. The tank had other ideas. He wanted to have fun soloing the boss almost entirely by himself, while the rest of the raid stood and got murdered by all the AoE Gruul made, plus we lacked healers on our side.
    I remember giving him 3 warnings. He ignored all, then I kicked him for being an idiot and not listening whilst 80 % of the raid was having their gear fucked. And to no surprise he began bragging about his gear and how its unfair I kicked him because apparently to him having Mythic gear enables you special privilege to act like a jerk.
    Theres a lotta guys running around with High end gear, but are total scrubs. I dont know why but I guess its due to how easy it is to get boosted nowadays. Your video is very relevant. Teamwork is so important in this environment.

    I have to say, that was one of the most enjoyable videos I've seen in a while - on youtube in general. It's so refreshing that someone puts their inflated ego aside and just admits they screw up a situation. And takes the position of a person that can learn and grow and not that of someone that's been a victim. Also, this applies to every aspect of life, not just wow, but I think that was obvious :)) Cheers!

    In life, sometimes it's easier to go with the flow. Then there are other times you need to stand up and fight for what you believe in, even at great cost. Knowing which is which isn't always obvious.

    Tuskeh, no matter what, you are always gonna be a boss ass Shaman in all regards. Are you going to do some type of overview for Legion Shaman? I noticed you have the Alpha and was actually quite surprised that you haven't talked about Shamans in any of your videos thus far. (to my knowledge anyway) haha. Well keep at it man! Having healed for 8 years - 25 healers, I am glad you chose not to heal, it's not for you. I don't think you don't have the personality for it. Low level healers are sometimes quiet and low energy. But you gotta believe, when you progression raid and love the pressure to do something impossible. When MY team wipes, it's my fault, always. I spend 2-3 hours in a progression run and 5-6 prep & debrief. When I went from raid leader to healing leader, I spent MORE time on raids.

    Excellent story. I admire your self-awareness.
    I DO think that 'review your combat logs' request was excessive. That's something you would do for a JOB, not a game. But then, I was never part of a SERIOUS raiding guild. We took dozens of tries to beat Moroes.

    Bravo for an excellent diagnosis of yourself and a treatise on some of the issues I see in groups. Too many people come in with a chip on their shoulder, defensive, and not team focused. Yeah, it's a game, but in progression it's a group working hard to accomplish a goal, just like regular life. I absolutely applaud your honest assessment of yourself and seeing your priorities as potentially limiting to the success of the team.

    Tuskeh you seem like a thoughtful person, I hope you respond to this because your video sparked questions in me: what made you stop enjoying healing? Is it because you were told you were inadequate? That's what I got from your video, more or less... I am a mythic raider, in a hardcore guild that aims high for world rankings - I take my game seriously. I love resto shaman, and I love healing. If I was told that I wasn't good enough, I wouldn't just quit. It seems like the based-on-your-feelings decision to make, and I can't respect that, because I'd either try to work on my shortcomings with the help of objective criticism, or find a guild which would accept me at my level of performance, so that I could continue doing what I love to do. Why wouldn't you do the same things? I mean, from what I heard, the problem was that you focus a bit too much on dealing damage, which is acceptable in the inevitable downtime, but not overly sought after. Why not work on that? It should be easy. Cast less Lightning Bolts and try your best to keep the raid topped for once, after all it's the end of the expansion, mana is the least of our problems.
    What bothers me is that it seems like you're clinging to the Ele spec because your level of performance with it is acceptable in your guild, and you hold their standards as holy. It's nice what you're saying, that you need to be a team player, and I myself have learned that mentality partially from you, but looking at the big picture here, the game should be as much about you as it is about the team. Nobody should be in it only for themselves; arguably, the other extreme is just as harmful. You don't have to sacrifice anything.
    I understand healing may have become stressful, considering something ails you and whatnot, but you're Tuskeh for god's sake, you taught me so much about resto. It just feels wrong if I keep playing resto and you don't! Please don't quit healing. I was looking forward to what you had to say about resto in Legion.

    • @Tuskeh
      @Tuskeh  8 лет назад +10

      Heya - it's been quite a while since I put this video up, and a lot has changed since then. I completely understand your point here, and I also agree with most of it - although I've been having some mentality changes about what makes a good Mythic Raider recently. Looking back, I'd say that I decided to step back because, in truth, I simply couldn't keep up with the other Healers. I'd clashed with the Healing Officer in a way that was both unnecessary and disheartening, and there was a lot of bad stuff going on IRL that was taking priority (IE, being told I have a chronic condition, and watching my father-in-law being rushed to hospital, and almost being flooded out of my home). I was different then; I was more irritable, I had a lot less patience, and I wasn't giving it my all.
      That's likely why I was falling behind - because although I made a pretty good Restoration Shaman guide before all of this IRL nonsense began, I lost a lot of my drive to play afterwards. Sometimes life is just mean. That said, things have calmed down over here. I'm learning to live with what's happened to me, and I'm much more the person that spoke in my Restoration Shaman video, and much less the irritable git that shouts at his Healing Officer.
      I 100% intend to create a guide for Restoration Shaman in Legion. That's why I haven't made many videos recently - I'm working hard on getting those guides ready. Thank you for your insightful question, and for your support. It means a hell of a lot to me!

    • @phoivos
      @phoivos 8 лет назад +3

      I thank you in return for your reply, even though it seems I found your video late enough for you to have changed your mind already, and I neglected to check out newer videos. I'd like to see a video about the mentality of a mythic raider in your opinion (if you haven't made one already, I'll go check now)
      It's understandable if your life was getting in the way. Mythic requires a lot of effort, and if you have other things you need to deal with irl at the same time, the effort you put there may be dampened. I'm sort of blessed in a way and I don't have many things to worry about other than the basics, but when something does happen, I play like shit before I get a wake up slap. I hope it goes well from you now on. Hopefully, you can now play again at the top of your level, and work on your shortcomings as well.
      I subscribed now, and looking forward to your videos. Keep up your work, it's fantastic
      Much love!

      Tuskeh, Resto shammys were extremely outclassed at the end of WoD they couldn't compete with other healing classes in the grand scheme of things, I hope your healing officer understood that. I'm not saying you should have defended yourself more but that's the position shammys were in. I know very very good shammys who are glads and mythic raiders and they just couldn't outheal most of my heal classes just because they didn't have the ability to, yes there is always room for improvement but when you're getting top parses and doing 20-40k hps less than other healers it just speaks for itself. You were just a walking raid cooldown.

    I think a follow up on how to give constructive criticism to members of your guild who are under performing without coming across as a just being a prick would giver a nice other side to this guild, as while trying and listening is one thing, if all your getting is abuse rather then something you can actually use is just no help to anyone.

  • @Jaggedblades
    @Jaggedblades 8 лет назад +4

    From your descriptions, it sounds like the management in the guild wants it to run more like a business. Maybe "that's how raiding guilds should be," but you always talk about doing your best and being kind. I'm more inclined to go above and beyond for people who care about me, not people who see me as a variable in an equation that constantly needs to be balanced. :/

    • @Tuskeh
      @Tuskeh  8 лет назад +1

      +Adam Huffman That's the trade-off for raiding in a Mythic team (especially one that only raids twice a week, like mine). Mythic raiders tend to be extremely analytical, and yes - while every member of the team is just a cog in the machine - a good team leader (notice that I only discussed the healing officer, not members of the officer team, who do a fantastic job) can strike a great balance between objectively judging their raiders and creating a great social atmosphere.

      +herogamer555 Strongly disagree on this one. If the healing officer tells you to maximize migation over damage you should try to do so, stack that mastery through the roof :D! Your probably getting carried by ur healing team atm, therefore not dying.

    • @herogamer555
      @herogamer555 8 лет назад

      +Nikolaj Olssen The content has been on farm for months, and we always have a holy paladin in the raid, plus we are all 10 item levels higher than the intended item level and we have maxed out rings so we are killing the bosses much faster than designed. I don't even come close to dying except on 1 fight, and even then it's extremely easy to push through it with a couple of cooldowns. You can't mitigate damage if the damage is non-existent in the first place.

    sounds like they wanted you to overheal...that's the problem with resto is our mastery...there is often little to do in terms of healing especially if you're up against disc priests and paladins...I am sure you argued that point alot as well...but good for you doing what makes you happy ..cheers!

    • @jackwinterheld4335

      Doesn't mastery in rshaman compensate for no save mechanics? Yeah, sure you can't overheal a priest when raid doesn't go down 60% all fight long, but on something like Iskaar, chain heal spiced by mastery is amazing, isn't it?

    • @therabbits69

      +Jack Winterheld the problem is also that shamans after progression actually become the weakest healer since its going to be nearly always overhealed at that point. most resto shamans i know after progression go dps. since they have nothing to heal.

    Have been a healing lead for 5+ years over various guilds. I have had this conversation many times, "Should I deal DPS as a healer". IMO it is not your job, if you are having issues killing a boss due to DPS then look at your DPS team, don't ask the other parts of the team to pick up the slack. On the other hand there are fights in which 0 raid damage is going out, or you have an extremely talented disc priest who has made the start of the fight a one man job, healing wise. So a wrath spam or lighting spam from your druid and shamans is acceptable. On the other hand putting pressure on your healers to do damage is never acceptable, if your entire healing staff is going OOM and your sitting at full there is an issue, if people are dying while you are near max mana due to 'acceptable damage' there is an issue.If there is too much healing going on and your healers are bored then switching one to a DPS role can make it more fun for everyone and quicken content, this is something the raid leader and healing lead need to watch for so you don't get boredom in a raid.
    Onto the next point logs, I'm actually surprised you didn't look at logs before you where asked to. Most competitive players I know at least look over them to see flaws, especially in progression. I have lived by logs and video for a while. Never taking one without the other because shit happens that one or the other can't explain. Comparing logs to similar raid comps can help you alleviate many raid problems quicker than just sitting there bashing your head on a boss till you figure it out. I made it mandatory for all me healers to look over there logs before the next raid week just so they could see improvement or errors.
    So I would suggest to you to do the same it will help you grow as a player all around.
    Hybrid.... I play druid.... I have played all 4 specs at a competitive level. I have done healing lead as a boomkin', was the biggest pain in the ass ever. Being this player can cause many issues, such as I know how to DPS this fight but healing it is totally different, or the healing is starting to bore me can I DPS, then from another standpoint where you are told you can't DPS because you are the best healer we have. All of that can be switched but the main point is it almost always causes issues either with the officer or with player. I tell people now that I AM A HEALER. If you want someone who can do both find someone else... And no its not that I can't do it, it is after all these years I don't want the drama. I have topped my raid teams charts as feral as balance as resto and have tanked entire tiers, but i don't tell people this when applying because then I'm expected to be raid ready with 2 or 3 specs none of which play anywhere close to the other two. Feral has been very quick paced and mechanically difficult but rewarding once mastered, while balance is a very set rotation with little to no alteration, and resto is healing. As an officer I would tell you pick one to master then once mastered we can talk about you trying out DPS in the raid if needed, because if you split your priority you will fall behind or you will get that itch to do the other and both will cause failure in raid groups.
    Sorry for the long response but good video all in all @Tuskeh

    I disagree. You have to be self-critical, you have to evaluate your own performance by yourself and see when it's lacking and improve that which is lacking. And be honest in your own self evaluation. When someone else evaluates you, he can be either right or wrong. Just because someone tells you that your healing sucks doesnt mean that it always is true. Similarly, just because nobody tells you anything, or everyone congratulates your skills, doesnt mean your healing is great. Who judges this? You, yourself. Be self-critical and develop yourself on your own initiative, not someone elses initiative.

  • @tynertrojan

    I agree with the points you made Tuskeh. My problem is it was well known that you dealt a high amount of damage as a healer and the new officer went against the previous one that didn't have a problem. If you are still progressing I could understand but that's not the situation here. This new officer has changed the dynamic of your healing group creating a problem when their didn't need to be one. If it was a problem before why did they not speak up before the raid leader/officer left?

    • @Tuskeh
      @Tuskeh  8 лет назад

      +tynertrojan All great and valid points - points that I've gone over in my head plenty of times. But, as far as I'm aware, no other member of the healing team has had problems with the new way of doing things, and the point of this video is to discuss when it's best to simply back off and change things for the better. I could certainly argue the points you've made, but would that really help the team? I don't think it would.

    Your story is a bit similar to a guild member I had,in terms of the sitting down and talking things out I mean,altough it didn't go so well.She was absolute rubbish in regards to dps-ing [and I mean a fully hc geared monk pulling no more than 30k consistently ] always claiming windwalker monks were a broken class,after some more or less heated discussions it was recommended she switch to another more easier class since mythic progression was on the horizon.She refused,claiming that she likes the class but it has no potential for damage.We did not have a specific leader for each role in the raid,but most of us tried to help her out ,needless to say all advice was ignored and she proceeded to make a big fuss over how everyone criticised her and she is not left alone to enjoy the game.Since our raid leader had a thing for her,everything we said fell on deaf ears,which prompted some of us to issue and ultimatum,either she started to benefit the raid,or we stop raiding.And that is how now I was left along with some others, without a guild. Keep on raiding to your fullest Tuskeh,and always remember,some players ,although they may come out a bit harsh,ultimately they just want to help out.Best of luck to you in Legion and apologies for the long rant here ^^

    You should definitely not get mad when people critique you, but you also shouldn’t be a dick about critiquing other people. Some people love to to make it a “I know more than you” fight when it’s a combination of intelligence. The team is always greater than the player, so act like it. There aren’t carries in progression.

    healings stressfull bro, probably the hardest class to play in top tier raiding. I dont play anymore but back in the day I use to raid top tier during cata and wrath. Top 10 guild in the U.S. at the time team malice, had alot of #2 logs for disc and holy. takes alot of out you, damage is the way to go.

    I disagree. If I wanted to be a healer and I felt I was sitting on my hands while no one needed healing so I decided to do some damage what harm is there in that? None! So I think this is a situation where you were right and your "healing officer" should have understood that. Any healer should have known that. This reminds me of a friend of mine who raids with me, she was in another reading guild as a disc priest and she was constantly getting bitched at for doing damage when doing damage was a huge part of building your stacks of evangelism and popping arch angel! You do 25% more healing when that is active but you can't get it unless you do damage! The healing officer just did not understand. So she was kicked out for doing what she needed to be doing. So if this team you're on is your friends they are assholes for doing this to you, and if not then you should find a nicer raid team.

    It's bullshit because the people who judge other healing classes for "low hps" are the same people who play disc priests/any other class that prevents incoming damage that counts on the hps meter.

    • @richardmathes4383
      @richardmathes4383 8 лет назад

      But when you check your logs from others around the world you can see how you compare to other equally geared characters in your own class. So it doesn't just come down to, "Oh well disc is OP for this expansion." Or whatever else. It comes down to if you're doing as well as you should be.

      Well, everyone wants to do better, 800 is nowhere near the top but it is also nowhere near the bottom, and if you want to do better you have to try to make the team coordinate better and make sure everyone does what is better for the team as a whole, otherwise swapping down to a top ~1000 guild might be better to let you play in a way that might be more fun for you.

  • @MGShadow1989
    @MGShadow1989 8 лет назад

    This is just my thoughts on the healing issue itself, and I'm going to preface this by saying I'm not taking any side, this is just my experience.
    It's simply better to throw in a few Lightning Bolts, especially when they cost nothing for Resto, than it is to stand there twiddling your thumbs; that much, is a widely understood and universally accepted raid concept, and if you throwing in a few LB's is causing people to die, you fucked up; however, where I think your healing officer was somewhat in the wrong (granted, this is merely my perception) is almost encouraging healers to be competitive.
    In my experience, this is counter productive - healers should be complementing each other through the strengths or the niche of their class, not trying to out-do each other on logs.
    As a Resto Shaman, you, ideally, should be the first to heal anyone, if only to take advantage of your Mastery, and you should be prioritising lower health players, and potential raid wide damage due to having strong AoE healing, specifically bursty, AoE heals - other healers should, ideally, be allowing you to take advantage of your mastery on lower health players.
    This definitely seems like a serious lack of communication, that in all honesty, should not be happening at a mythic level.
