- In this video I show you how to make Mass Effect 2 (ME2) look absolutely gorgeous, using a variety of texture mods, SweetFx tweaks, ENB's, and a complete graphical overhaul with (what I have been told are) 4k character texture mods. The main mod used in this video is "ALOT" of ME2 textures by CreeperLava which is a big mod of a bunch of little texture mods that in turn re-texture about *.20% of the game. I forgot to include this in the video but the coalesced.ini edits improve the game drastically. Just drag the .ini file from the "ALOT" folder into the Mass Effect 2 coalesced folder. Make sure to back up the original as well.

0.Download everything ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
1. Extract the "ALOT".7z file and open the torrent link inside, wait for it to download.
2. Open the ME3Explorer file and find "ME3Explorer.exe", open it.
Navigate to user tools, textures, texplorer, make sure it says modding me2 in the upper right hand corner. It will ask you if you want to build a tree hit "yes".
3. Open TPF/DDS tools in the textures section under user tools in ME3Explorer. Extract each of the 7z files in the ALOT folder. Drag and drop each directory into the TPF/DDS tools and hit Analyse with Texplorer, wait for it to finish, click install valid.
4. Repeat
5 Do the same with the update 2.2.3 and galaxy textures and alternate Tali textures. (If it says "Mips" next to it click autofix in the bottom left corner)

I'm not sure if ALOT was updated since this video uploaded but ALOT comes with it's own installer that use can use to install SOME..other mods by just dropping the file in. Texmod is a RAM hog and the ALOT installer is really ALL you should need for everything except the 'drag & drop' ENB/Sweet FX files.

I've been searching for a lot for how mod ME2 and found this video which made my life much easier.

for those worried about these installs being too daunting or complicated need not worry! I don't really mod my games a lot (other than nexus mod manager or steam workshop sometimes) and I don't know what anything means or how it works...but I was able to get everything to work fine for my game with no issues - so far. There really isn't a lot for you to do that's tricky, most of the time is spent waiting while the programs do their thing by loading in and replacing/installing textures. These instructions are perfect and straightforward so it was no problem. Sure the entire process took a few hours but for one of the best games ever made I'd say a graphical upgrade is worth the trouble.
PS: I had some glitches with the texmod/aquarium and ENB presets sections. And by stopping the modding of the game before those steps are done, the game looks and runs fine. Whereas if I installed those 3, the game would look super contrast and bright as well as not launching properly or connecting to EA online (and that's after replacing the 2 files mentioned on the ALOT page about the authorization bit). So just keep that in mind too.
PPS: Disabling ONLY origin game updates isn't enough, you have to also disable origin updates too, or else it will update...change the settings...and then update the game, which will break the modded game and you'd have to do a completely fresh reinstall of everything, which I just had to do. So yeah, disable both update settings on origin.
Thank you very much for the guide. It helped A LOT. Uploaded some vids of it from a 4k downsample with some SSAA on top and Cinematic 1.2. They are compressed but you can still tell how good this mod looks :).

10:40 ALOT doesn't replace every single texture in the game^^. 20% would be more accurate.
15:53 Oops, forgot to generate the MIPs. It's not caused by duplicates, rather MIPs are something the game uses to optimize the amount of VRAM used by textures, by reducing their resolution with distance. Wikipedia has more information on that.
16:50 Tali will be fixed in the next update.
You also forgot about the coalesced/ini edits, they can also have a massive impact on the game, especially regarding shadows and anti-aliasing. More info on that here : me3explorer.freeforums.org/viewtopic.php?f=49&t=2415

Creeper I got a question for you: Is the Coalesced folder a MUST from the latest version of Alot? Because I downloaded it 3 times now and havent gotten the folder when extracting, am I f'ing up or??
LauritzGaming There is no coalesced folder anymore, just instructions. Read the txt file :).

Modding ME is almost as complicated as GTA V, but much more time consuming. You saved me a lot of time.
Better Galaxy is now included in Alot.
IIMPRTANT, when you mod the game, it screw with the authorization of the DLC : you have to use 2 dll (link in the alot faq)
How exactly do you use the 2 dll's? I copied them to the binary folder as instructed, but it still says that my DLC requires authentication. Please help.

Texplorer just declares "ME3 not found" and then doesn't bother asking me to build a tree.
Does it say ME2 found?
The button that you said I have to click to say "ME2" instead of "ME3" in the top right corner of the Texmod window does not exist. That button is not there. There are no numbers. The UI is quite different, actually.

After doing WAY too much hunting to figure out what the heck, it seems that some of the utilities included in ME3Explorer are still having ongoing issues with text scaling and window sizing, and the developers are working on it. Recommended solution is simply "adjust your screen DPI settings"
For anyone still having issues the Mod Author has created a new method of downloading in recent weeks. MUCH easier to install now.
Also I really recommend the MOD Better ME2 to go alongside this one. It can be installed before or after. takes about 5 seconds to download, makes a few changes including skipping dlc authentication.

Is it just me or does the Illusive Man look really low res in the video at the end? I have the same look to him but I doubt that's the way ALOT intends to make him look. Very well explained. Cool video. However, there's not much difference in texture from what I see. It doesn't look "next gen". It seems too much trouble to go through for hrs of re-modding to just get a tiny bit of glow and more colour.

Hey NGG I installed all the texture files from ALOT before I moved on in your video and didn't know to autofix for MIPS until you mentioned it at 15:37. Will I need to go back and redownload everything again or did it not matter until I install Better Galaxy Textures?

Just one question before I begin the installation. Will the colors for the armor pattern be affected? The colors are faded and dull in my game. My neon green looks terribly faded and the orange is the same. Will this be fixed with this?
Men, nice tutorial, but a bit confuse: for example, in the Texmod map, you should have tell us that we had to rename the original MassEffect2.exe to MassEffect2.bak before copy and paste the Textmod.exe as MassEffect2.exe, I've lost the original ME2.exe , thank god I had a back up, but, you know, those little details you should fix in your next videos. Before doing a video, you have to have your mind clear and follow steps!
Well, it seems that I will have to do it over again hahaha. For other tutorials, try to not be that quick (you use some expressions as "real quick" or others). It's better a nice and slow tutorial, than a faster one, really!!

No problem men it wasn't something that bothered me too much because you remembered to back up the files many times as I remembered myself to do so, but you have a lot of potential, really, one of the best tutorials for modding I've ever seen (also if we think that this is a big, big mod xD so it was difficulter to do a good tutorial) and I've recently played ME2 with all the mods perfect so it's nice and clear for people like me, who are dumbs for modding😂😂 Thanks a lot btw dude, you are incredible!!

There is a mod for it on the nexus, But if you allready installed everything else you need to re do it from scratch... So in the end, it comes down to how much time you are willing to spend on re-installing the mods
ME3 explorer cant find ME2 folder. Where do I put the ME3 Explorer file? Cause it doesn't ask if I want to build a tree cause it cant see it.

Rename MassEffect2.exe as MassEffect2Launcher.exe

When I installed everything certain files say "not found in tree" like the armor textures and face textures and won't work at all when playing. is there a way to fix this?

If you don't have a certain dlc, you won't get to use that texture, thus the not found in tree.

Thanks for the video. great timing considering I just finished replaying ME1 and am starting my first play through of ME2. I've been trying to install the textures with the ME2 Controller mod first but as soon as I update one texture the game "has stopped working" when I attempt to start it.
I'm still troubleshooting it but if I try to add the controller mod after it seems to work.
There are some special instructions on the ALOT page for how to make sure the controller mod doesn't crash the game. You Might want to check that out. If you can't find it tell me and I'll link it to you.
Appreciate it but those are actually the directions I followed. I've been playing around for the last hour and seems to be working fine installing the controller mod after textures, in defiance of the directions. thanks again for the video

I've installed the textures but can't seem to get the game to run when I test it. I get an EA window pop up that says that I am missing a .par file and need to reinstall the game. Any idea why this might be? It is the origin copy of the game.
I personally don't know I would try contacting the mod author, just drop a comment on the mod page. You should also try checking the faq first.

I found the LAA patch, but even when I use it, Origin doesn't acknowledge that I have it downloaded.
I found a solution to it (it worked for me).
In binaries directory:
Rename MassEffect2.exe as MassEffect2Launcher.exe

I dunno, kinda just looks like contrast up to 11. The textures are nice yeah, although hard to appreciate them with the contrast being that high.

I have an open question to anyone willing to help. I, for some reason, am missing a file called Texture2d.tfc. It doesn't install on a clean installation. If anyone is willing to copy this file and send it to me I would be forever grateful. Thank you. When installing ALOT it says it's missing.

Gethtacular Well all the textures and stuff work, but none of the DLCs so I think it has something to do with the DLC Patcher that most mods need. Since I already had it though I thought it was fine, but guess not. Can anyone tell me if I have to install the patcher BEFORE the ALOT mod or AFTER?

+John McGee You shouldn't need to uninstall it, press it's scroll lock to disable it. There's a hot key that should be displayed in the top left corner when you start the game if it isn't scroll lock.
I just can't get me3 explorer to work for me2. I've made sure it's the right path, but whenever i use Texplorer it just says ME3 not found, and I have no idea what to do to get the program to understand that I need to mod ME2 not ME3. Anyone knows what could be the cause? Again, I've the me3explorer knows where ME2 is located - the paths are set correctly.
In the top right corner there should be a button that says something with Mass Effect 3. If you press that untill it says Mass Effect 2 it should work.

found the solution, just have to change the text size in the screen configurantion of windows. put the small one and full screen.
It's there says "Modding ______" You need it to say ME2
But if you use a different resolution than 1080P, there is no button, it disappears. even in full screen. it was hard to find out that.
Rename MassEffect2.exe to MassEffect2.bak and it doesn't show up in the open file prompt for Texmod. Also I have ME2Game.exe in my folder. Why is nothing right. Help. I need an exorcist.
Edit: upon following instructions and trying to launch the game, it takes me to the Texmod window, I put Aquarium.tpf in and hit "run" and I get an Origin "missing .pif file" error or some such and it refuses to run the game.

I skipped to the gameplay part of the video, and I seriously can't see any difference to the original game. Textures look the same. I only feel like you turned up the saturation a bit.

ok i think i broke it...says cant connect to the cerberus servers...which means it cant validate my dlc which means i cannot play the game (in my opinion) iv took my time (took 3 days to compile it all and setup) did only a little a day instead of all at once went over the video 3x and even redid the whole setup again and i still get the same thing cannot connect to cerberus server yadda yadda did i just completely miss something twice?
edit: i even changed the textmod.exe name to MassEffect2.exe also im trying to get this running for a 11520x2160 presentation im setting up so it looks extra pretty as if that resolution didnt already do that
Edit: ok apparently there is a patch for the DLC issue Here at the bottom of teh page www.nexusmods.com/masseffect2/mods/68/? so it works i can launch game but now i no longer have a UI but that may be due to the texture packs incompatibility with my resolution (11520x2160)......but it works and looks ungodly beautiful for the textures that do work
Edit: ok so evidently the lack of UI isnt due to my resolution (ran game at lower resolution 1920x1080) but something else...the UI just isnt there, main menu or in game....interesting....ill probably do a clean install of everything but thatll be for another day...any responses though would be greatly appreciated for anyone else that has had a similar issue.

Pluto- Leader yes, but you need to install them before this I believe. Check the Mod FAQ to make sure though.

A problem with mods are that they are all user made so they can be deleted randomly, I would try asking the ALOT mod author if its included with ALOT. I know that its gone through some updates. Happy Holidays though!

yeah, i got it solved. This process is all kinda laborious. I have ME2 with EVERY dlc. when i was applying the npc pack i noticed it stopped at like the 278 out of like 287. meaning that 9 textures werent applied but the tool said it was done.
