    The Carlton closed down at the end of 2015 and has remained empty and derelict since.
    Planning permission was granted in 2016 for the site to be demolished and replaced with a Premier Inn hotel. Work on demolishing the site was originally scheduled to start in late 2016, however, sadly this did not happen and the Carlton has since been left to become yet another empty eyesore on Sandown seafront... Shame.
    Intro was inspired by a similar advert that aired for the Sandringham Hotel back in the 80/90s
    Gear used:
    Panasonic GH4 with the 12-35 f2.8
    Sony a7s with Canon f4 24-105
    Edited in Adobe Premiere Pro CC
    Graded with lumetri and some custom LUTS
    Music Created by me in FL Studio with the following VSTs:
    FM8, Nexus 2 and Absynth 5.
    (both intro "Moon River" theme and the piece that plays throughout the video)

    Ugh, Sandown was my childhood vacation hotspot back in the 90s, it's becoming ever more heart breaking to see Sandown and the Island die off like this.

      Sandown used to be so vibrant I share your sadness as I too spent loads of my childhood there and have some really fond memories. It feels like it's stuck in a run down freefall of decline (has been for a while) large sites like this reduce large sections of the town to giant eyesores adding in the overall decline. It really needs a mass redevelopment and investment, however, if I was an investor I would see little incentive on spending out... Such a shame.

      Hopefully with the proposed tunnel that is due to link iow with gosport shall hopefully reverse the decline of iow

      It's heartbreaking to see all of the places in these videos in such a poor state of repair, my grandparents used to live in Ryde and I remember going on holiday to the IoW all the way back to the 80s. I think that part of the problem is that people want to go on holiday to far off destinations and not closer to home, that and the ferry prices are just ridiculous.
      Keep up the good work filming these places though, these videos may well be the last time we see many of these buildings.

    This hotel was owned by my dads cousin. Lovely people. We used to holiday here in the 80’s. And my dads family from the 1960’s. Life goes on, I know that, but seeing this it feels like another chapter of our family history has gone and will soon be forgotten. Cheers for uploading.

    Crazy! We always used to stay at the Trueville (next door). Haven't been back to the island since '05, and promised myself one day I'd re-visit, but starting to think its too sad now! Maybe I'll just stick with the memories :'(

    Me and my Partner Di, stayed there twice while on coach trips to IOW. Both times we got the groty top floor back room! LOL.
    After that we traveled under our own steam and used Lake Premier Inn for the car parking😁

    A very sad sight indeed. Thanks for documenting this. I last visited the Island in 2015, having holidayed there several times as a kid in the 1970's. I was shocked at how many places were in a sorry state. Osborn Smith's in Brading was the saddest for me. I guess I'm not alone.

      @AbandonedIsleofWight  7 лет назад +2

      It's changed so much, to be honest, it's not all bad and whilst its a shame to lose yet another building of character I think that the Premier Inn (that is being built on this site) may actually have a chance of reversing the decline in Sandown, perhaps even help to make it a desirable holiday location again... Thanks for watching 😁

    Sandown must sort itself out or should i say the councils must. It has a wonderful natural product a stunning beach. We visited this summer in the heatwave and it was packed to the rafters with families enjoying the beach and the horses that are still open and the few good restaurants left. If they could rebuild these old hotels and give the high street a face-lift it could be one of the best resorts anywhere in the UK.

    I first visited the IOW in 1966 as a 6 year old, and fell in love with the island. My family stayed at the Carlton and I've promised myself I would stay there again. Now it's too late. I was there today and couldn't believe the state the poor Carlton was in. It nearly made me cry 😢

    • @AbandonedIsleofWight
      @AbandonedIsleofWight  7 лет назад

      They've since started work knocking it down. It is a shame however from what information I can gather it had become very run down in its last couple of years of being open.

    When I was a kid Sandown was a great place to visit with the boating lake and very special cream doughnuts from Browns. Now it resembles an Urban Battleground Training Area - a godawful run down shambles.

      Thank you 😁 I too would love to get back in Wight City had a look last weekend and the security of the building has been massively tightened, they've reinforced the fence, completely boarded up the back and hung barbed wire over anything slightly accessible... I was informed by a reliable source that it's now been purchased, so it's probably the new owners protecting their investment...

    Very sad all these lovely hotels & camps being left to rot...or pulled down ..idilic spot on beach front.. they should do more to promote & encourage tourism..not become a "Deserted Island"...it's a lovely place to holiday,..sandy beaches, attractions, and a small step back in time.... hope money can be found to prioritise...

    Have you ever been cought in side a abandoned building. Or went so far in. You got lost and could not find your way out?

    • @AbandonedIsleofWight
      @AbandonedIsleofWight  7 лет назад +1

      Been caught in a few places, however, fortunately, security usually choose not to pursue as long as you haven't caused any damage or nicked anything.... That's not to say they won't take matters further and it's always a risk... I've been lost before too; me and some friends took a road trip through France earlier this year and got lost in an underground Sandmine for a couple of hours, in the middle of the night, underground and right out in the middle of nowhere... The compass we were using had reversed so it was constantly sending us in the opposite direction to where we needed to go 😆 ... It's all good fun though 👍

      I guess you have X-ray vision , I work in the building industry and I saw lots of nasties in that place but not asbestos, also the amount that was used and cut up in the streets in the past ,we have all come in contact with it . That statement came direct from the asbestos awareness course tutor
