Thank you Wendell for this video I’ve spent many a year going to the California Hotel with kids birthday party’s bowling and work dos..I really do hope that this hotel does not fall to the same fate as The Edgcumbe hotel. I was so shocked when I heard it had shut its doors… 😔

Its a tragedy when buildings are left to rack and ruin. But also sit empty when there are so many homeless. You were definately brave going up those stairs.

It'd be Great if you could go back
Daylight, when maybe you don't feel so threatened.
And go back check out the upper levels, or more if the place..
Like Graham above said, when younger, Yes - bring it on!
I'd go adventuring in places now, simply the energy.. turns me back the way i came!
Calmness and kindness from me to each of you reading.

I used to love exploring abandoned buildings years ago ..its creepy ..2 events that stick in my mind ..1980 was a Steel Works that was closed down ..all the machinery , Furnaces , dark underground Cellars etc ..Then the Toilets !! i heard one hell of a strange noise coming out of one of the toilet rooms , I scarpered !! ....................another one ,a Huge abandoned derelict mansion about 1976 ..had to use a torch to get around , loads of rooms ,then right out the blue ..a man stepped out of the doorway in front of me holding the hand of a young girl ..about 10 ......i was about 15 at the time ..now i think back its horrible to think what that man might well of actually been ..

I started my professional DJ career around the hotel circuit in 1976 which included the Edgecumbe.
Really sad to see the progressive decline of not only this hotel but the whole hospitality industry in the uk!
We all flocked abroad for guaranteed sun with cheap flights and hotels, sadly we now see the results.
It will probably get redeveloped into apartments for those who can afford.

I had my wedding reception in the hotel california 27 years ago, sad to see that its going to be demolished. I also worked in the Edgecumbe around the same time. The first part that you thought was some sort of reception area (before you went in to the kitchen) was actually a serving table where guests would go to get their desserts in the evening. Where you first went through the window was my station! So heartbreaking to see it has been allowed to fall in to that state, it was one of thw better hotels back in the day!

Yes Newquay had problems with anti social behavior back in the day but that happens everywhere, the NIMBYS moaning have caused the town to be dead on a weekend! Its only busy a few weeks in summer now. There's hardly anything left that will attract crowds.

Yes, sad to see buildings like these becoming derelict rather than housing homeless people properly. Shows that our failure to get rid of homelessness is purely due to the govt and other authorities not giving a toss. Asylum seekers, if anything, keep hotels open and stop many going the same way & when "processed" and if allowed to stay, generally make a very positive contribution to our country.
