  • The reason I asked viewers to “check my description for additional details” is because I left out some very important information.
One of the very important features I forgot to mention is that there is an attachment point on the lower D-rings which accommodates a second bridge. This bridge can be of equal or different length as the existing bridge and it can share the existing ring (for a same length, redundant second bridge) or it can have its own hardware which can be the same type or different as the first. Personally, I think I’m going to try and install an adjustable bridge using an open ring and a Petzl micro rope grab. This is not an approved use and I’m not sure it can be done effectively or safely. I’ll have to see how it goes.
Should that fail, I’ll most definitely want to install a second bridge of a different length. Although any climbing rope of suitable type and strength can be used for bridge material on this harness, I have heard reports that using anything other than the bridges made by the manufacturer can result in unwanted failure, which is worth considering. Buying bridges from the manufacturer isn’t expensive and they match the harness well.
The second important thing that I forgot to mention is that, if you like the Essential but want more padding/the same padding as the Pro model, it is possible to buy the padding separately and it is easily installed onto the Essential. I’m considering taking this route. Although the padding on the Essential is sufficient, it is less than I had hoped for given the price.
Also worth noting is how, everything seen attached to my harness which isn’t being held by one of the two carabiners, or by either of the two Petzl Caritools, is being held up using quality accessory carabiners (DMM XSRE), which is another cost effective method for securing your gear. With an MBS of 4kN, these little ‘biners are quite strong and have many uses.
Finally, the reason I didn’t get the Evo model (despite having the opportunity to pay the same amount for it as I paid for the Essential) is that, sadly, my hip size is right at the highest accepted circumference for that harness. Meaning, if I were to simply put a jacket on, it would probably no longer fit and if I were to gain a few pounds, I wouldn’t be able to wear it. And it comes in only that one size. The Essential, meanwhile, comes in three different sizes. I got the large, which allows me plenty of room in both directions, should I need it to become bigger or smaller in the future.
Oh, one more thing: You can buy suspenders for this saddle, which is helpful, especially when you have you have a saw!
