Always kept Malabar puffers with tons of other fish quite well in community tanks. For YEARS. I moved years ago sold all my tanks and took a break from the hobby. Kids were young working 12hr days so wife could stay at home with them coaching their baseball teams I was INSANE busy. They are nearly grown now and I got time. Got back in the hobby. 15g flex and two pea puffers small school of dwarf cory’s and a bubble bee goby a true crush water one also a fav fish I have kept successfully for many years. Everything was fine for months. Puffers one day decided they wanted to bully the poor Cory’s. They coexisted fine ZERO issues for months. What I learned is pea puffers will live wonderfully in community tanks if they are pretty large. I never had a small 15g tank before smallest was 40G breeder of my tanks. Bio load wise and fish size wise my 15g flex is under stocked. But space wise for puffers they just need more room away from other fish. They eventually get annoyed. If I don’t move them the poor Corys will either eventually die or just have a miserable life. It’s only nipping for now but some tail fins have been damaged. So it’s serious in my opinion. Bought a tank setting it up now and will be ONLY for them the two puffers that seem pretty bonded they get along great. It’s a 5G spec but if the pair is bonded 5G is fine for 2 especially seeing as they will be the only fish in there. I will spoil them with lots of live plants and a beautiful environment and they can live alone not being annoyed by other small peaceful cute fish. So my experience? Smaller tank I wouldn’t put them with anything. Larger tanks they will be fine with most anything. Because there is plenty of space for them to remove themselves if they get annoyed and need space.

Bumblebee goby not bubble bee😂🥴. By the way bumblebee gobys can’t say enough good things about them. I NEVER had a tank without some. Amazing fish. The one I have is thriving in the flex he’s gotten fully grown beautiful striking dark black with bright almost neon yellow bands very healthy. But these will ONLY eat live food. It will rather starve if it’s not alive. Also side note about the bumblebee goby puffers wouldn’t dare😂😂. They tried him once... ONCE. They can take care of themselves especially when they get full grown. He’s very mellow a loner in fact his name is Mellow. But you test his ass? He will respond and puffers are afraid of him.

I have 4 Pea Puffers in with 2 Ottos and 4 White Cloud Minnows in a well cycled/filtered 10 gallon. The puffers never bother the other fish they just pick at each other from time to time. The Puffers pretty much hang out low in the tank. Each Puffer owns a corner of the tank. If another Puffer comes in their boundary they do get pushed out but any of the other fish are welcome. My puffers never chased another species even during live feedings they allow the White Clouds to have some Brine Shrimp as well. I keep all my fish well fed and happy and I never have any violence in my tanks. Even my male Betta has 2 Whisker Shrimp, 2 Mystery Snails and 4 Gold tetras. He NEVER tried to harm any of them but he will push the Tetras back a little during feedings.

I have one male pea puffer with 6 White Cloud Mountain minnows, and May add either a honey gourami, or four more white clouds. Got the pea puff when he was a baby baby, so he’s grown up with them, and doesn’t bother them at all so far. I think the little guy thinks he’s a minnow! His name is Toby, and he’s addicted to bloodworms, but does love attacking the feeder snails I have in there for him! Haven’t seen a couple snails in a few days, so guess he’s successful in killing and eating them too!
