The Oscars is a bunch of rich people coming together to pat each other on the back. The sad thing is, even if everyone stopped watching it would still exist.
No, it would not. Oscar award would lose it's prestige. Nobody would care about recieving a statuette, when noone is around to see it. Oscars would also lose it's money for lack of interest. Who would sponsor it, if not the viewers? "Rich people"? Why would they give their own money, to participate in a competition, which nobody cares about? Don't get me wrong. In SOME way Oscars would probably still happen. But they would take a form of more intimate gatherings, and would probably completly die-out with time. Those people are not idiots. Academy Awards happen to give people a chance for recognition (or to sustain it). No recognition, no point.
The only reason you look down on it is because a) something controversial happened at the Oscars b) you'll never get an Oscar or become rich (or at least your odds are slim to none)

Well millionaire means different things someone worth 3.5 million could just have a decent retirement plan and an average home price in LA. If I wanted a retirement plan that would leave me with 75,000 per year that is 2.25 million plus a 3 bedroom home in LA is 1,000,000+ at the least. That net worth is probably the average net worth for people like the cinematographer or costume designers who get frequent nominations. Which even that is worlds away from the net worth of a majority of the directors and actors/actresses in the room. Most of Mexico is of mixed Native American or Pure Native American descent. There are many with mostly or exclusively European ancestry but the majority still maintain Native American lineage, especially in the South of Mexico. My family is from Mexico and I identify with being Native American. It’s what my culture/practices and mirror validate for me.

I had no idea about this moment except when I went to a museum in LA that had a section about the Oscars. When I learned about this moment and how people were booing her I thought wow, what a bunch of sensitive and insecure idiots. Pretty funny how Eastwood had those famous comments about our generation being soft, his generation was just as bad in their own ways. No it’s not. In this case security did their job. There was no physical assault, Wayne was rightly restrained. There was booing and mockery, but that’s exactly what they expected. Sacheen was allowed to speak and did so about an important issue. Will smith had a meltdown over a mild, complimentary joke and physically assaulted Rock, wasn’t restrained or escorted out by security, and received a standing ovation after apologizing to everyone but Chris Rock. Physical assault is worse than letting someone speak but vocally disagreeing with them.

If you watch westerns, as I do, there is clearly issues of racist representation. However there was a shift and by the early 70’s westerns that depicted American Indians did so in a more sympathetic light and no longer depicted them as evil hordes of savages. Besides that most westerns from any decade have white villains anyway, westerns just about cowboys fighting Indians are pretty rare. Edit: it’s also important to note that westerns are the only Hollywood genre to hire American Indian actors. Doesn’t make up for it, but it did provide some with jobs and income which is important for oppressed and impoverished communities like them

Bringing activism to an event like this was frowned upon. It's pretty recent for people wanting celebrities to use their voice to promote awareness for causes. Really wish I could remember who did an entire video on celebrity activism... It was years ago.
I had no idea about this moment except when I went to a museum in LA that had a section about the Oscars. When I learned about this moment and how people were booing her I thought wow, what a bunch of sensitive and insecure idiots. Pretty funny how Eastwood had those famous comments about our generation being soft, his generation was just as bad in their own ways. Their generation was called out for being legitimately racist and hateful and they would become sensitive about it. Our current generation is the opposite in the way that many things get labeled as racist and hateful when it’s really not (sometimes it is obviously but not usually). World isn’t too much different, just over correcting in the wrong ways.

No it’s not. In this case security did their job. There was no physical assault, Wayne was rightly restrained. There was booing and mockery, but that’s exactly what they expected. Sacheen was allowed to speak and did so about an important issue. Will smith had a meltdown over a mild, complimentary joke and physically assaulted Rock, wasn’t restrained or escorted out by security, and received a standing ovation after apologizing to everyone but Chris Rock. Physical assault is worse than letting someone speak but vocally disagreeing with them.

He literally couldn't make it to receive his oscar in person because he fled the fucking country to avoid being charged for raping a child. This was 2003 but I remember it like it was yesteray. If you watch westerns, as I do, there is clearly issues of racist representation. However there was a shift and by the early 70’s westerns that depicted American Indians did so in a more sympathetic light and no longer depicted them as evil hordes of savages. Besides that most westerns from any decade have white villains anyway, westerns just about cowboys fighting Indians are pretty rare.
Edit: it’s also important to note that westerns are the only Hollywood genre to hire American Indian actors. Doesn’t make up for it, but it did provide some with jobs and income which is important for oppressed and impoverished communities like them
