  • This week i built a folding table for my camper van.
    Since space is always a big issue this table folds to fit into a stackable storage box.
    I am so happy i finally figured this out :)

    We kept finding we needed a folding table. This is so easy to store. ruclips.net/user/postUgkxStL0QRChBju4aQlnTrRgBZvafFog0KU3 Opening and closing is easy as well. It has a great handle for carrying around the house. Its pretty lightweight and slides around easy. We bought it for our daughter’s first sleepover. Breakfast was a blur - but 12 7-8 year olds fit at the table with room to spare. We used it at thanksgiving and 6 adults fit comfortably on each side plus 2 on either end for a total of 8. Super easy to clean up afterwards as well.

    I know failing sucks, but look at where it can take you..! This is an amazing design, so simple, so logical, yet so new and creative. Fantastic :D

      Yes indeed! And success would never taste so good if you don"t know how unpleasing it is to "fail" ! Laura Thanks for bringing us along the "failure" of the first and the success of the second! It was a blast ! and WOW what a storytelling and edit! Love it! The tape communication is still cool! (idea : Tshirts with tape that says something cool! Like "Tape can also communicate! or Tape communication or yeah. something you would wear, the others would too !

      @@stonebayrocker Sorry 😄 It was spontaneous tape text ideas 😊 Since Laura typically writes what material it is, dimensions or something in that style on the tape I thought it would be fun with a t-shirt print that looked like tape and that said what the t-shirt was made of 🙃

    I don't know how smooth the bottom of the storage box is, but if it is smooth, could you skip the wooden table top and just flip the storage box over and make it the top? 1 less piece, would stand up to wet better, etc. I love the solution for the base / legs.

    • @thechimpyone

      Had the same thought. Figured I'd better check to see if someone else had the same idea.. 😀

    • @andreasmaugg7717
      @andreasmaugg7717 6 лет назад +5

      I had the same idea as Kevin but a different conclusion as MrKyle:
      The bottom of the Box is profiled, so many things will flip i.e. If you put a glass on the bar. To avoid this, one will have to fix a kind of board to cover those thin bars without making the construction thicker, something not always working sufficient.
      A second point:
      The plastic box can be used as a protector for the wood when the table is placed on humid ground like a mead. So this construction is genious, thanks Laura for sharing.

    • @kevola5739

      i think the plastic box is a drawer for the camper van. The plastic box will have drawer slides attached and installed in the van.

    Nice, I’m moving in a few days and deciding what will be given away and what stays. I ran out of room in the moving container. Now I’m looking around the garage thinking I can build that now. Maybe it’s a way to procrastinate on packing and moving, lol. Well I guess the saws now stay and take up the rest of the storage bin. I can donate dishes and always buy new dishes, tv stand and racks, a it will be a lot cheaper then buying new saws. Nice video 👍

    That is really a genius design, and the strap hinges was epic, only slight concern I have, is the dowels and the plywood where they're placed - don't you think it could be a problem in the future with wear and tear? Maybe a small metal rail on each piece (stainless steel) where you drill a 6mm hole and using a 6mm stainless steel tap instead of the wood dowel would give it more strength?
    - I don't know, maybe I'm overthinking this and seeing problems where no problems is. :-)

    • @EclecticMystic
      @EclecticMystic 6 лет назад +2

      Or, the dowels themselves might tend to tear in this build. They're designed to be non-moving fasteners, often with glue involved. Turning them into hinges may have unwanted results.

I was going to start pointing out things that I thought should be changed to make it better for other kinds of camping, but then I realized that your video had just inspired me to design and build my own camping table, which is probably the very reason you post builds like this in the first place!
