    Yes, I know this horrible feeling of endless pawn pushes. This is why I almost never play for positions which gives the opponent passed pawns, even when I have the better material advantage, it always ends badly for me.

    It's nice that you honestly talking about your losses, as well as your wins, which is not the thing all chess players doing! 🙂 I start to watch your videos pretty recently, but I enjoy them a lot! I remember analyzing one of you dad's old game vs Ljubojevic, back from 70's. In fact I was analyzing some ideas in 1.b3 and your dad played that opening back in those times... Also, I analyzed a number of your mom's games, but her repertoire and mine are different ones... Good luck in other games on Olympiad!

    What's interesting is that when I was playing competitively I would occasionally get pitted up against someone who was much higher rated than I (in this case I was rated about 1800 and he rated a bit over 2200. Pushing pawns and randomly sacrificing pieces he kept thinking it was a trap and would take sooo much time looking for the trap that wasn't there. I played the clock, not him. With under 2 minutes left on his clock, he finally figured it out. LOL it was speed chess for him. I almost beat him on time. He was rather annoyed. He played to beat me, I played to beat the clock. Push the pawns and non-traditional movements can eat lots of time. Great game you played. :)

    15:05 I think I would had maneuvered the knight to c6 just to blockade the pawn, a6 as an extra protection.
    White has a4 b5, but after axb5 axb5 Nd4 - I don't think it's that straight forward for White anymore. If Qd4 then just Qxc5, or if another queen move then either Nxb5 or Ne2+ - whichever is allowed. So White can't go into that without some more work.

    To sacrifice either bishop e7 or knight d7 for the two pawns by using them both (like at 16:50...or 17:40) I think may be good. Well, my 10 min rating about 1550 and 5 min 1250, so... :)
    This not possible after g5, however, since bishop defend it.
    Idea: You'll lose a point but may be able to create something new from development with bishop or knight.... and get rid of that annoying threat.

    I have never played a game that I could not get wired in 6 months or less, (when applying myself). Not this game, for anybody. This game has more options than we can remember, almost infinite. It is the most difficult game to master that was ever invented IMO. Politics is easy to me, "Opp, there is another commie", but this game, when you lose, you never see it coming until it is too late, no matter how good you are. I can see how this game can consume people. You always have a chance to figure out something new, after the exasperating study of the old. The study of chess is like the study of math. Nobody can know it all.

  • @kenmccarty6229
    @kenmccarty6229 2 года назад +4

    The movement of your c pawn was a big problem. While c6 was possible, playing c5 later tore your position completely open. Your idea of playing c5 in one move would have been better than what you did in the game. But I still think c6 was playable and not the mistake.
    I understand the temptation to open up avenues for development of your sad light squared bishop; but that second movement of the c pawn was definitely not the way to do it. That c5 only strengthened White's light squared bishop and severely weakened your position along the a8-h1 diagonal. I immediately knew it was a mistake; I did not need to calculate to know it was wrong. With the pawn remaining on c6 While's light squared bishop was potentially 'biting on granite'. Your movement of that pawn again solved White's biggest problem in the position.
    Instead I would have looked to castle first and then potentially use a well timed e5 break to eventually get Black's light squared bishop into the game. But take my advise with a grain of salt cuz I haven't analyzed these lines enough to say that with confidence. It's just a gut feeling. And I am a very good intuitive player.

Not many of us do after public education starts either. What a shame. How great of a world would it be if we were all as excited about what we do and free to do it? But we only have games, (some recreation), left. That is the sad part. There is not a union or state worker in the world who wakes up like this young lady does every morning. My question?
