You’re correct. My wife is black and my head was on a swivel making sure she was protected after going to the Carribean and Italy the past 4 months.
It’s not something that white people really think about until we get close. Then I look around, “My wife is the only black woman on the bloody deck/resort.”
Then protector mode comes in, and I start the mean mugging and staring back at the older people that are staring at us. Most of them aren’t bout anything when you retaliate lol. We just started owning it. We have an audience of eyes waking into a room, so we started giving them a show. Extra and flamboyant. 😂

What I do find sometimes is that the Europeans are very reserved. We Americans talk to anyone we meet for the first time and we are always polite. Europeans do not do that with strangers. And generally you will find that is the case in almost every country except the US. That is one good quality we have. Now, when you befriend them, they will be your closest friends and will help all then can. They will invite you to dinner at their home unlike us Americans who only do that at Thanksgiving and Christmas.
The Philippines has the most friendly people. But they too are very shy with talking to strangers for the most time. So for me in my past I have misjudged some folk as being prejudiced, but once we started talking i found them to be very caring friendly people.
But I am sure there are some that may indeed be very prejudiced.

I was on MSC Seascape 7 day cruise last week. My husband and I who are African American/Black saw approximately only 10 other Black people on the cruise. We purchased 2 Specialty Dinners and was isolated and segregated both times. On a ship with thousands of people we were flabbergasted when we were in a section of the restaurant with 2 other Black couples. It was weird. We commented to one another how strange and why was this done. Was it because the mostly “other” clientele wouldn’t want to be around us? That’s 6 out of 10 in one section alone, only us 3 couples. The rest of the restaurant was buzzing and full. It was Valentine’s Day. We often got strange, curious looks when moving about but nothing disrespectful. The staff is mostly great but a few who I know I intentionally overlooked us. But, the staff that was great were actually exceptional who went out of their way for us. (Hope this makes sense). Thankfully, my husband and I are very confident and enjoyed ourselves though we felt nearly invisible. Overall this ship is highly organized, the food is average. The pasta is always al dente. The internet is horrible. The private island is a waste of time. The Spa is awesome. Desert was better than the food.

I have never had someone tell me no, when I go to a restaurant during an average time of day. And something I notice black people don't do enough. COMPLAIN!!! on-the-spot. My favorite word is 'Can I speak to the manager?' If you call out the manager, they think you are a celeb if you are black, and it's top service from there on out, because everyone fears bad reviews that may affect Americans taking their cruise. Travel is extremely competitive. AND NO CRUISE, VACATION WHATEVER TRAVEL WANTS TO BE CRITICIZED AS RACIST, it's one of their worst fears.

We ended up never eating in the main dining room and did speciality dining and buffet for the whole cruise. That was just the start. We were left in the rain at a port whilst every one else boarded the ship. My husband was so cold it took ages for me to warm him up. I complained to their head office but received no reply and on phoning them they said they could do nothing about the way we were treated. We will Never cruise with them again.

They were taking over the pools, pushing and shoving and touching everything in the buffet. As a person who has a slight mobility issue, I felt like I could be knocked over at any moment. As you said, not many were Americans on board. Being a Canadian, this behaviour caught me off guard. We haven't been back on MSC and I doubt we will be after your video.

Also in an interracial marriage and over the 23 years we've been together, we've experienced our fair share of racially charged "stuff". We decided to give MSC a try a few years back. Our experience was similar, and bad enough that we made the decision to never cruise on them again.
We have maintained that and your video confirmed for me that we are/were not alone in our sentiments. Thank you once more for sharing.

I add that whatever flag the ship sails under and whatever law applies to the minor in theirs, it is your own country's law that applies to you. Aside from Romeo & Juliet laws for minors 14-17 within 3 years for Canada age difference it is 18+ consent laws here. And people who mess with kids are not liked in prison here either and no one wants to find out 1st hand what will happen to ' goofs' in Canada if in general population. Though I can't allow myself to condone violence against anyone in retribution I can admit I am not so high minded as to say I'm going to lose any sleep over their fates. 24/7 isolation should be an option for them is as far as I go! Ouch 😮 I was on MSC in January and had a somewhat different experience. I really appreciate your perspective because I didn’t do any specialty dining or clubbing. As a Black woman married to a Puerto Rican man, I don’t run into any crazies… thankfully. There were actually lots of brown people on our sailing, but the international crowd wasn’t very friendly. Especially compared to the crowds on NCL and RCCL.
The life guards did a great job at keeping kids out of the adults only pool area, there were endless activities/fun for the whole family, my teen loved the water slides and Robotron. We didn’t see a ton of teens running wild, however my eyes were on my kids who were not at any clubs or bars.
We used the Aurea Spa Thermal Area and it was fabulous! It had every amenity that you could ask for and a good way to escape the crowd.
✨ My daughter has food allergies and this is the best experience that we have ever had. ✨ I would highly recommend MSC for this reason alone. They were so polite and accommodating that words cannot describe their service. My daughter’s food was always correct and she had a special desert every night. Additionally, the buffet was full of fresh healthy food so she did not have to request anything special for lunch. There were plenty of fruits/veggies, grilled meats that were separated from the seafood, plain rice, baked potatoes, pizza with no cheese as well as non dairy dessert options like jello.
We went to one show and left. We were not impressed with the entertainment. It definitely does not compare to Kinky Boots and Choir of Man on NCL’s Encore or The Book on The Odyssey of the Seas.

We went to a cafe in Rome and the barista, who pleasantly spoke to my husband while taking his order, essentially ignored me, or answered me rudely. While people have told me that maybe it was something else, I always felt deep down that she treated me that way because of my skin color. This was disappointing, because up to that point our experience in Europe had been pleasant. It didn't rule my trip -- I loved Europe, but this incident still stands out to me.

I just watched this video about MSC, and I have to add my comments. I recently took my first cruise on this line, out of the US, having cruised multiple times on several different lines. About the only thing good I can say about them is their disembarkation process was the best I have seen. Everything from the initial interaction with the baggage handles, where they were actively asking for tips, the check-in process which was unduly long considering the amount of people present, and the fact you have to activate your ship card after you get on board instead of in the check in process was maddening for a cruise line with such a high reputation in Europe. Most of the entertainment was cancelled for various reasons. The idea of having a messaging app that all persons in your group can access is a great idea, if only it worked while at sea. There were many other reasons this cruise line gets poor marks from me, but suffice it to say I will not cruise with them again.

My husband is always so excited to visit the Windjammer to get some southeastern Asian options 😂 It would straight up break my heart and ruin my cruise if my husband was made to feel uncomfortable, even by the guests. We found the ship itself was a beautiful ship, it kind of ended there. We had a balcony room and found it to be good size but there was a lack of storage/closet space so we had to keep some of our stuff in our suit cases. As far as the food goes, the buffet was good, the MDR was ok the first couple of nights and then not so much after that. Overall, we thought the cruise was mediocre at best. Not very likely we will take another MSC cruise.
