I'd rather they do something with the back of the legs than having that hammer or the old guns actually, like those Siege blasters don't even look they belong there, look at the color
Just how did the Decepticons NOT take control of the City?! Springer got other things to do, and Ultra Magnus just can't deal with anything. Doesn't anything get done there?
Well, the initial assault on Autobot city was supposed to be a surprise attack, with the Decepticons hiding in the ship and only coming out to attack once they've landed. However, Hot Rod spotted them and shot up the shuttle enough that it began to crash. The Decepticons all lept out of the shuttle and attacked the city in broad daylight, thus displaying themselves for all the autobots to see. Blurr just had to alert the Autobots who were inside. While, yes, the main Autobot forces were staging on the moon bases for a counterinvasion of Cybertron, Autobot City was well-guarded too as it was an energon manufacturing plant, with all the newer Autobots, and likely most of the Season 2 autobots too. We know the Autobot combiners and titans were at the Ark, drawing off the Decepticon combiners (save Devastator). Also, Autobot City was either part or all of Metroplex, so while Metroplex didn't transform the Autobots managed to convert Autobot City to fortress mode. Already the Decepticons are at the advantage as they're likely outnumbered, they lack combiners and titans save for devastator, and the Autobots are holed up in a pretty strong fort. The Decepticons obviously anticipated this and that's why they brought Devastator and the Insecticons: to breach their defenses. However, it took all night for Devastator to break in, and the overnight siege was likely not kind to the Decepticons who had no cover. The Dinobots, a few reinforcements, and Prime showed up, with the former taking on Devastator just as he broke into the fortress, intercepting him before he could do further damage and kill anyone inside, and weakening him enough for Magnus, Sideswipe, and Red Alert to uncombine them (in a deleted scene). Prime broke the low morale of the Decepticons, who made a last-ditch effort to stop him in vain (the cut dogpile scene), and with the fatal wounding of the Megatron, the only one keeping on the assault, they pulled out.
The lower legs and most of the forearms are the same but the rest is new but it follows the same pattern. Surprised me on a comparison video as I thought the side parts were the same but were different.
I agree. For starters, starting with maybe Siege, "Leader" class has long left the building from what it once was. Now we are just getting unnecessary accessories like the hammer. And as other critics point out, it is just to justify the price point. I think a new design/mold would have great, particularly if we had Springer going back to the size of the Thrilling 30 Springer. You know, something more reasonable. And yes, I don't like re-using the same mold again. I have flash backs of the Combiner Wars Dead End mold that was used for so many recolors or remold. Oh well.
We're talking about Hasbro, the king of using the same mold and just repainting it to turn it into a new figure. Every so often, they'll slightly remold it.

Just ordered this off Walmart online for $40. I got back into collecting a little under two years ago, and got too into getting modern versions of characters that I had when I was young. (True G1 og) But, then I thought why not get characters that I've always wanted, but could never find? Which I started doing, but I did find Springer when I was little, and where I thought he was really cool in the movie, and season three his G1 toy looked so horrible to me, that it was a very hard pass for me, so I'm glad for this modern version of him. Where it's still not the best, I'm excited to get him in.
for me i passed on him when he came out thinking he was just a repaint in which i still almost got him to have the toon colors but after watching this review from you i ordered him and glad i did really like this figure
Not worth the 55 dollar leader class price. Hasbro is crazy for charging a leader price and justifying it with a few updates and some weapons. I'm good with my siege springer
I passed on ordering him… gonna grab him on sale some time. Upgrade from my siege version. LOVE the car storage mode. Looks like a station wagon with a roof rack on moving day!
I picked him up today at Target, for $34. Showed them the price on Amazon because of the sale, and got another $10 off for the Target circle coupon. For $34 I am really pleased with him, it’s a good representation of Springer.
I've gotten most of my Studio 86 figures from Walmarts, and just like every figure I've find so far, Springer showed up in a Walmart _months_ after showing online. I just found a Springer in a Walmart about a week and 1/2 ago, so I scooped him up. Given that the Studio 86 figures are supposed to scale-accurate to each other just like in the G1 'toon, I'm only just now realizing that Springer, Scourge, Wreck-Gar, Scrapheap, and Starscream are all about the same size. 😅 Springer was also the most complex Studio 86 figure for me to transform yet, and I've had a little trouble aligning all the joints, limbs and whatnot exactly to get him into his vehicle modes. Speaking of, has anyone else had trouble completely straightening out at least one of Springer's shoulder pads to form the front fender? The left fender on my Springer always ends up slightly crooked in his alt modes. The tab that folds out of Springer's left shoulder pad also doesn't want to stay plugged into his left hand. Also, there doesn't seem to be a way to secure his copter mode's front wingtips firmly into place. One good tap swings them back out of place.

Another great review my good Sir! This mold is better than the Siege mold due to the new backpack design and No paint scruffs. Wish Hasbro would stop calling their Voyager sized molds as Leader class due to the extra weapons. Would have been better if they instead used a new design like the War for Cybertron UNUSED FILE Springer. Looks absolutely futuristic with the Springy tires and minigun on top, the flight mode also looks like the one on Avatar. If Hasbro made that mold then it can be truly considered as Leader class.
Great review, as always. I just got mine in the mail and I'm kinda wondering why he is advertised as 8.5 inches (even Hasbro said so) we he most definitely is not. Size does in fact matter 😂
First Sandstorm and now Springer. Possibly Broadside next? Springer is a carry 10 bags of groceries in the house at once ha ha. Probably not worth the price point but it looks better than the Siege. Not sure what the bunker buster bomb is for though ha ha.
I want to like this, i love when they do the helicopter blades into a sword thing, but in this case one of the blades faces the wrong way in helicopter mode! It's a small nitpick but it's enough to drive me nuts
Man, they kept the car shell piece clear plastic. That piece scares me, because at some point it sheared itself off on my siege copy just sitting on the shelf.

@@draigon True, and ouch! Sorry to hear about your netflix Bumblebee. I hate it when a figure breaks. The last two figures that broke on me was my kingdom primal & and legacy inferno. Inferno's leg peg connector broke. which was minor as breakage goes, but Primal's on the other hand not so much. Somehow a very short fall onto a pretty plush rug busted the loop on the outside of his right hand that holds in his fingers. Doh! As for the Ultra Magnus with the little core figure. That was the Combiners war one wasn't it? That was a throwback to one of the comic Ultra Magnuses I remember correctly. While the siege wasn't to bad it wasn't what I look for in a Ultra Magnus. But kind of gives that fans project city commander trailer for classics voyager Ultra Magnus vibes. Which was a pretty awesome 3rd party upgrade set.
Is it just me or does the plastic on the Leader Class version seem sturdier than the one on the voyager class? The one I got was from the Wreck N' Rule collection and has the loosest feet/ankles I've likely had in a figure. If the Leader class comes without that issue then I say it's worth picking up.
A really good thing that they kept the transparent cockpit, instead of painting it blue like they do now, because that looks awful. Transparent is waaaaay better.
The one thing that bugs me about this version is the mismatched hubcaps. I really wish they'd colored the back ones green too, not just to match them but because it'd bring a bit more green to the rear of the vehicle modes and help unify the overall coloring a bit more; as it is the front 2/3 of the alt modes are bright green and the back third is all gray, like they forgot to finish painting it. Other than that admittedly minor nitpick though, he looks pretty good, tempted to swap my Siege version out.
I'm so frustrated right now because I bought a copy of this figure today, which I thought was the leader class figure, but was switched out with the siege figure, which angered me
OK so whoever did the comparison pictures from over a month ago had an agenda because they had it to where it looked the same size and this you can clearly tell the SS86 is taller.
Now that you’ve handled both, the biggest issue I have with Siege Springet is I feel like his transformation is a royal pain. It seemed like you had an easier time, but that might just be because you’re familiar with the mold by now. Was it a lot easier, kinda easier or about the same?
Apart from the lower legs everything else appears to have been very subtly remoulded. I really wasn’t expecting this to be as nice as it is, definitely an improvement over the Siege version.
For me i owed the original seige version of springer and at the time just like seige Optimus prime the figure was an absolute banger but sadly he and my entire seige collection, plus my custom siege skywarp repainted from a starscream fig (r.i.p my skywarp) got left in new york at my aunt's place where i used to live but honestly if you told me i had to give up my old collection for a bunch of the newer earthrise and 86 movie figures id say take my money as this fig of my boi springer is definitely leaps and bounds above the original seige mold, more accessories, better paint job, extra features and the sword/helicopter blades is an actual transforming piece rather then being two individual swords attached to a spinning bracket piece,to me that alone already makes this new fig a better opinion so yeah overall if i gotta rebuild my transformers collection again from scratch imma do it right
If I'd missed out on the Siege figure (and I damn near almost did) then I'd be very happy with this release and the visual improvements it makes. But the improvements are relatively minor, the accessories add very little value to me, and and frankly I don't think the figure is different enough for me to want it for voyager price, let alone leader. If anything, how little they actually changed it is somewhat a testament to how well they did with Siege anyway
The designers said on the live stream that they had room left on the sprue and decided to throw in the hammer because why not
It is a good idea to give the Wrecker hammer since Springer is a member of the Wreckers.
Well yeah, they increased the price by $20 from the original figure. I would hope there was enough room in the budget for a 1 cent hammer.
@@EffigeeWhizand all the other improvements, larger size, and all the other accessories. So yeah, makes sense he costs more

Tho this might be a remold of seige springer, i will definitely will get this for the sake of my collection
I'm getting this Springer since it's a tad more accurate, has the correct weapons, and I just never had Seige Springer in the first place.
I'm so frustrated right now because I bought a copy of this figure today, which I thought was the leader class figure, but was switched out with the siege figure, which angered me
I much prefer the IDW design but this figure is amazing
I hope one day to see him with earth modes
Springer is a Autobot Autobot.
I'm guessing the "Hammer" is for Transformers One's Orion Pax. ⚡⚡⚡
OK so whoever did the comparison pictures from over a month ago had an agenda because they had it to where it looked the same size and this you can clearly tell the SS86 is taller.
TWO MONTS AFTER I GOT THE WRECK N RULE ONE
Ok, he definitely looks better in camera
Still waiting to transform my Ignis, and Viper Emgo-style!
The main characters from the 1986 G1 Movie is completed.
Now that you’ve handled both, the biggest issue I have with Siege Springet is I feel like his transformation is a royal pain. It seemed like you had an easier time, but that might just be because you’re familiar with the mold by now. Was it a lot easier, kinda easier or about the same?
The new version is look exactly like he does in G1 Cartoon.
Looks way better than both the Siege version and the old Generations figure tbh.
Apart from the lower legs everything else appears to have been very subtly remoulded. I really wasn’t expecting this to be as nice as it is, definitely an improvement over the Siege version.
I think I'll trade my siege springer for this one this one looks better
This is a leader class now.
It makes me laugh when there's the issue of too many accessories with no way to comfortable store them.
For me i owed the original seige version of springer and at the time just like seige Optimus prime the figure was an absolute banger but sadly he and my entire seige collection, plus my custom siege skywarp repainted from a starscream fig (r.i.p my skywarp) got left in new york at my aunt's place where i used to live but honestly if you told me i had to give up my old collection for a bunch of the newer earthrise and 86 movie figures id say take my money as this fig of my boi springer is definitely leaps and bounds above the original seige mold, more accessories, better paint job, extra features and the sword/helicopter blades is an actual transforming piece rather then being two individual swords attached to a spinning bracket piece,to me that alone already makes this new fig a better opinion so yeah overall if i gotta rebuild my transformers collection again from scratch imma do it right
hopefully i can get it on discount from target again
Cool
I prefer the look of the siege version.
No base of displayage? I’m shocked!
Huh. Mine came without the larger blaster. I guess I can use Magnus' 2nd blaster, I suppose.
I’ll relegate the Siege Springer to my G1 Wreckers collection and keep this one for my ‘86 collection.
If anything, how little they actually changed it is somewhat a testament to how well they did with Siege anyway
for the life of me i can’t get the right arm to snap into place like this 9:12
