What this channel is doing lately is so marvelous-releasing footage that has likely never been seen since it originally aired. For old school opera lovers this is especially exciting, as in some cases, the Ed Sullivan Show performances were the only time certain historically important opera singers were filmed in the act of singing or filmed at all. Such is the case here with Labò, who performed twice on Ed Sullivan here at the beginning of his career, which continue for another 30 years after this.
Caro FLAVIANO.... quanto ci manchi!!!!!!!! POGGI.. TUCHER.. DISTEFANO..FILIPPESCHI.. PREVEDI.. BONISOLLI.. ecc.. Ecc.. Piacevolissimo ascolto. Bravo FLAVIANO.
Great tenor-under rated and mostly forgotten. I heard him 2x, once in 1959 as Calaf @ NY's City Center and once at my last time @ the old Met in 1965 in Tosca w/ Tebaldi. Stunning voice!
How awful that I have never heard of this great tenor --- great from the first note all the way through to the last. Nothing even close to Flaviano Labò these days. Thank you so much for acquainting this singer to me and to so many others.
Estupendo! Gracias por compartirlo.
A real treat! Not only is he rare on film, but he seemed not to have recorded much in the studio either. Don't know why. He died rather tragically in a car accident in Milan at age 64.
@@mariofilippeschi4855 Yes! Totally agree! Iv already gave my mark on him. He is nervous, stressed, sounds are lack even he is darken. He is a tired tenor like LoMonaco. Also, top is bad. He isnt so free and relaxed. Singing is much more. Even more than having a big size. Cant believe that iam criticizing a full darken tenor, but its a bad OPERATIC singing. We can critize mosquitos but ignoring a bad singing with big sizes, just dont see another big mistakes, for what? Operatic singing must be sized and relaxed, free and, better, with easy top
Barone, its a typical bari, you cant hear, like filipischi, monaco, corelli, volpi. So bad struggles. "Maestro" of imitating a tenors? Why are you guys so loved a baries then they are imitating a tenors? Size in high voices is not exist
Ray Bloch, who led Sullivan’s studio orchestra, was a versatile conductor of popular vocal and choral music, especially from Broadway shows, but had no training and no significant experience in opera.
"thank you, Flaviano Labo....Next up....Shhh! ... We'll wait for the people in the balcony to quiet down....Alright...Quiet everyone...And now, let's pull up the curtain for a very unique and incredible plate spinning act!"
Cond. Bruno Bartoletti in Chicago tole me he was no more then five foot two but for me I don't care he sounds a bit like Bergonzi with a better top voice, saw Bergonzi many times, which he is compared often with but though Bergonzi was a wonderful singer, this man has the better high notes for me anyhow.
They called Labo "Mighty Mouse" at the Met, because he was slightly built, and had a huge voice. The chorus men, especially, admired him.

I agree with you! I’ve never seen a live Labo video!
What year is this? Mid-50s I suppose?

I agree completely!
True voice for Verdi❤

Grande Labo’, Tenore di tecnica, passione e misura.
Another underated Tenor RIP 🙏

Wish we had some quarter of his nowadays... And there are some who dare to criticize!
Absolutely beautiful singing from a tenor I've never heard before. I agree with everything that Trrill wrote in this comment section!
What a magnificent tenor.
Beautiful spinto quality with real squillo in the Lauri Volpi mold

Piacevolissimo ascolto.
Che voce meravigliosa! Spettacolare!!!
Magnifico.

Bravo Maestro Labo!
He seems nervous here

Semplicemente fantastico!!
Thanks...!!!
My god, they even built him a ship set and costumed him in a sailor's shirt. What a time....
Yes and he would have fit through the porthole but seriously, lovely singer, reminded me of Norman Widom, has a cheeky comedic face.
grazie Maestro
grande prova ....ottimo tenore
It is sad that he died so tragically in a car accident. He has a robust voice, tenor robusto!
He did? Wonderful voice.

No wonder he is looking at the conductor all the time... the conductor is dragging like there is no tomorrow.
Indeed. Absolutely brutal. I'm guessing a house band with no opera experience.

Quell'acuto lí pesa 5.773 chilogrammi, Labò gli alza cosi...come niente...!!!
Tragically died in a Car Accident in 1991 aged 64
The hell? they laughing.
Actually, on this show they brought in one video a some pop singers. No wonder of this
Ok this is so annoying leave me alone now hahaha baby so much better now than ever before
