Djent, in its original meaning, is a heavily digitally processed power chord, and is the name for an elastic, syncopated guitar riff. As a style it has been described as featuring heavily palm-muted, distorted guitar chords alongside virtuoso soloing, and is characterized by rhythmic complexity and palm-muted riffing. Another major contribution to "djent" is computerised sound. Many djent musicians, such as Misha, started their careers in home recording using amp modelling and programmed drums.
I don't care how silly the title is, though it is quite catchy. The song itself is awesome! I always listen to this one. The voice is pretty dramatic. It's like want to go speeding on my motorcycle in the middle of the night and leave the fucks behind. When my wife left me.
where can I find more music like the percussion in the beginning? like those intro drums that sound kinda like some post-apocalyptic computers turning back on after a long time haha.
2:40 was relistening to this from a different video, then surprised this was different. Went to 2 different vids, still the same. Good thing i arrived to this specific video. I thought I was losing my mind thank God.
@@D-Man_Jam Actually some people have a natural aptitude for vibrato, I'm getting the impression that it's a conscious artistic choice. Vibrato has simply gone out of fashion and/or simply doesn't fit certain aesthetics
... i had no idea there was a word for that... O_o im apparently also a countertenor... everybody always just called my an alto... you sir are enlightening beyond measure... O_o
Ur right, I am judging before listening to the whole album (which i am now), but i came to this link because some advertising said "Dream Theater fan?? Checkout this band!!" so i came here, but i wouldn't say this is the right track to engage Prog metal lovers to come. I bet they have better tracks!! Side note, The Prog metal president sounds like a 20 min 5 part suite masterpiece by a prog metal supergroup xD
I do both as well, in a band. It's very difficult to fuck up when you're screaming, other than if you forget the lyrics. With singing, you need to worry about hitting the proper notes, on top of doing that with good technique for it to not sound terrible. There is less risk involved with singing, but that doesn't mean it takes less musical talent.
in my opinion its a mix of math metal, hardcore, prog and djent, depending on whether you class djent as a subgenre of prog because some do, anyway, its good to listen to so i thing peoples should just do that :)
Im not the prog metal president (although that sounds cool) but still, u have to admit this has that particular sound of every american rock band out there playing hard rock or metal songs...those riffs, overproduced sound, linkin parkish vocals etc. =)
The sound your hearing could be like Gothiccobra said, a layered vocal that trailed off, or it could be that the did the whole verse in one take, and couldn't edit it out. It's short enough that adding in a drop on the track wouldn't be necessary, but long enough to be noticeable.
@praeludiumm I like to call it Progcore...some people like Mathcore, or Math Metal, but that doesn't go right with me. Djent? Maybe, but so far everyone has said it's the definition of a really well distorted guitar chug...hardly called a genre name.
@OmniOdyne i know what you mean with the hardcore thing, me myself i like hardcore, but the hardcore relations come from the breakdow like riffs that they do, wel thats my opinion anyway, i like to think of them as a mix of math metal that uses djent because djent is more of a sound than a genre, thrown in with a little hardcore, i think it is absolutley brilliant, will be seeing them with dream theater in april !, couldnt care less about dream theater tho :L
Yeah. Screaming is more difficult physically, but in terms of musical talent it's much more difficult to sing. You don't need to worry about going out of key, etc.
It's just the way American rock bands tend to be, the vocals, the guitar riffs, the production, the feeling, the song structures. i should have said "American Mainstream sound", cuz this is barely called prog, more like alternative rock sound.
His range is insane... this song still gives me goosebumps to this day.
Still does.
The outro never fails to give me goosebumps even after all of these years!
11 years later it still gives me goosebumps.
How were the jet packs? They were yes.
Calvin they was yes*
You know what I mean
I don't know was you mean?
*how WAS th3 jetpeckers
Think you mean "they WAS yes"! 😀
It's 2021 and I'm listening to this record 10 years later and learning some of the guitars. Timeless.
jetpacks was yes
grammar was no
make total destroy to these
True
This is my favorite version of this song. I get chills every time. Occasionally tears.
I cry too bro. Damn
Why does he not do the scream part live anymore?
This and Aspirations by After the Burial are the two most beautifully written songs to me
Fuck yea dude, Aspirations in a masterpiece. I'm actually gonna listen to that after this one, thanks lol
Facts. This song also wouldn't exist if it weren't for several overlooked and underrated songs from sky eats airplane
This song is one of the reasons why I am so in love with Periphery, can't imagine my teenage years without this banger and this album
But if Icarus is not kill
I actually started drooling when I heard this song, that's how awe struck I was.
I remember listening to this song back then in 2 year of high school, still hits the feels .
The jet packs are still yes. great job👍
he has a voice that goes up like an angel and down like a wounded ox XD
wow. if absolomb and remain indoor has ancestor, here it is
Absolomb is actually a super old song(well, not that much) when Misha was just doing his thing as Bulb. :D
This guy gets it.
the SUPERIOR version.
3:05 - 3:30 nothing beats that arrangement.

comments was dumb
grass was still green
The nostalgia ahhhh my feels
This solo is straight fire
When we had amazing bands!
This song is yes
I don't care how silly the title is, though it is quite catchy. The song itself is awesome! I always listen to this one. The voice is pretty dramatic. It's like want to go speeding on my motorcycle in the middle of the night and leave the fucks behind.

Anyone listening in 2020? All time favourite.
where can I find more music like the percussion in the beginning? like those intro drums that sound kinda like some post-apocalyptic computers turning back on after a long time haha.
The rest of this album
this is such a beautiful song, kinda brings a tear to my eye
I love you guys. I just love you.
Till this day it’s a yes 👍🏼
Best version. Love the solo onwards, really dig the heavy vocals with the chunky riffs and back to singing. Sooo good.
2:40 was relistening to this from a different video, then surprised this was different. Went to 2 different vids, still the same. Good thing i arrived to this specific video. I thought I was losing my mind thank God.
I normally don't listen to music with words. This doesn't suck.
Best album they've ever made. Top 3 all time
Damn Spencer has some pipes! Found out about these guys when they were touring (opening) with Dream Theater. They were great!
I’m pretty sure that Jake is John Petrucci’s nephew
Epic and groovy, one of the Best periphery songs
when the call of duty developers had a brainstorming session
AnonAnarchy yooo that was good hahaha
the songs toooooo goooooooooood I can't stop listening.
I adore this song. It's addictive as hell, special, and nothing like others.
born of osiris bass n guitar awesome voice awesome name beast drummer trance music that really is just beautiful n life makes periphery
What?
How come the teenage sounding vocalists never use vibrato, and the daddy-sounding ones from power metal ones always do? Is this deliberate?
Because proper vibrato takes a while to get down pat. So most new vocalists use little, to no vibrato in their singing to avoid screwing up the notes.
@@D-Man_Jam Actually some people have a natural aptitude for vibrato, I'm getting the impression that it's a conscious artistic choice. Vibrato has simply gone out of fashion and/or simply doesn't fit certain aesthetics
Missed the era of Blessthefall, Alesana, and and A Skylit Drive I guess lmao
This song is too damb good to be put on the radio. BTW I like both versions of Jetpacks was yes.
Damn that solo....
First album always the best!
periphery stop making me cry
Brings me back to high school
Holy shit, those cleans.
WHAT'S LEFT TO CARRY MEEEEEEEEEEEEE
This is the best version of this song. ❤
You sir just made my day.
How can band be this fucking good?
Periphery = My new love
Always happy to help a fellow musician. :D
Like that 40's radio show host at the end of Icarus lives said, "His voice goes up like an Angel, and down like a wounded Ox".
Perfecf song!
I have no idea what the title means lol, but man, this song is amazing
These lyrics are deep as F***
Lovely song :)
Ow My Feelings.
... i had no idea there was a word for that... O_o
im apparently also a countertenor... everybody always just called my an alto... you sir are enlightening beyond measure... O_o
RETURN TO SPOTIFY💔
Alto is a female vocal register. He is a countertenor ( highest male vocal range.)

2022 and still awesome

This song, from 2:19 onwards...how can it be so good, god damn it. D:
its fuckeduply too amazing
3:06
in my opinion its a mix of math metal, hardcore, prog and djent, depending on whether you class djent as a subgenre of prog because some do, anyway, its good to listen to so i thing peoples should just do that :)
This should be the only version of this song
Spencer, I'm jealous
❤❤❤😢 👍 👍 👍 😮 good job
2:43 is cool. I prefer the v.2.0 but damn, that is a awesome scream.
Better than v2.0. 2.0 sounds muffled.
my feelings are no
Im not the prog metal president (although that sounds cool) but still, u have to admit this has that particular sound of every american rock band out there playing hard rock or metal songs...those riffs, overproduced sound, linkin parkish vocals etc. =)
It's 2024 and this song still slaps

Bro that part from 0 to 3:57
inb4 Ghost and Periphery tour....
(just from your picture there, I feel it should happen, as expressed by many fans before me.)
this song is amazing, this band is amazing and fuck de haters!!
The singer has the voice of a god, live, just saw them today with Dream Theater!
just had to leave last vid, got ready then i was dissapointed. V2 always dissapoints me.
This guy gets it
This song is not on Spotify!!!! It's driving me crazy!
Tanya Ortiz *It's drive me crazy
It's drive me crazier.
I can't find this album on Spotify :(
OMG that must be so fucking epic

Do they have any other songs like this? Even from any other bands would be great.
Racecar
Lune
Absolomb
Periphery - Heavy Heart, Stranger Things
Erra- Skyline, Sleeper, Continuum, Safehaven, The Hypnotist(personal favorite of the whole album)
All New Materials is kinda similar. Wax Wings maybe? This one is special though.
_I was in my house eating dorito when phone ring_
"Jetpack is yes"
*no.*
That high note (Eb5 I think. Not a vocalist.) made me question my sexuality for like a second......
You should listen to their new album.
Djentpacks Was Yes
Gob, I'm sending you a package
Ghost is touring with A7X, so it could be highly possible that they tour with Periphery next year.
Thinks music genre's shouldn't exist
> Likes Djentiest of the Djent/Grooviest of the Groovy video.
HURRR DURR.
I like this song alot, even the vocals, although Sponce vastly improved on PII, but the screaming was totally out of place in this one.
Well, they did revamp it. V2.0 (Distort Ent) is superior.
Isn't this Chris Baretto, though?
Don't know why, but "Sponce" really cracked me up 😁.
@@jellosapiens7261 No, the whole first album is Spencer.
Yeah. Screaming is more difficult physically, but in terms of musical talent it's much more difficult to sing. You don't need to worry about going out of key, etc.
I like this version way more than icarus one
Icarus was alive
Fucking Amazing Song! Love it

Love Transition @ 2:40.
To me, it sounds like a backup vocal that they just put some reverb on it, but they also played the clip backwards. Good ear though. :)
Arrested development was yes
