- Empathy, the ability to relate to other people’s feelings and circumstances is often a personality trait among people who are driven to help others. Dark empathy, also known as cognitive empathy, is when someone can be attuned to other people's moods, needs and experiences, but have an emotional detachment. It is often found in people on the Dark Triad, exhibiting traits of narcissism, psychopathy and Machiavellianism. Sometimes referred to as evil empaths, or emotional vampires, they have empathy to be able to read people, manipulate them but also recognise the harm they cause.

i experienced a lot of eye rolling, which indicates a juvenile stage of emotional development. also, lots of pictures with the old tongue sticking out... these people are stuck in the place where their childhood development stopped. its got nothing to do with chemical deficiencies or serotonin uptake, they are essentially children struggling to approximate adult life. if you get involved with them, you will eventually be forced to reconsider the notion of "practice makes perfect".
@@Lizpolygigiblissgirl a dark empath is not a narcissist. I think what you encountered is a narc. A narcissist has a late emotional development so they act childish and impulsive . A dark empath is much wiser as it requires emotional intelligence to know when to go dark on someone.

Thank you for your comments about empathy. I am autistic and struggle a lot with cognitive empathy... Many autistic people just lack cognitive empathy. This of course does not mean that I am a monster. I just struggle to see or understand things from people's point of views. And this is not willful ignorance if anyone is wondering. My brain is wired differently to the point that I pretty much have extremely low or no cognitive empathy skills. I can feel pity and bad for people, but I cannot read people's emotions nor can I read "social cues". So I often tend to offend people even if it's not done intentionally. This is where I think many people get us autistic and narcissistic people confused. The difference between us and them is the INTENT. I do not INTEND to offend, I am just socially inept because my brain experiences the world differently from "normal" people. But if you were to tell me that I've offended you, I would be mortified and apologize profusely because I do CARE about people. I just struggle to understand them. I hope that makes sense.

The mimicking of emotions based on tv and movies or wherever else they can study what they think is normal behavior… that’s a very real thing.
I remember telling one of my co workers she,s so good looking,she blushed so badly, embarrassed. later on she told me she was always made to feel ugly with her freckles.
I have a radar for dark people and can tell right away without knowing that I don’t want them around me and I avoid them to the best of my abilities. They are self centred people that can do the damage as well, especially if a member of your immediate family.
I consider myself a dark empath because I know how to counter attack a narcissists abuse tactics, and give it right back to them. I use it to fight back. As long as you don’t mess with me, I won’t mess with you. 🤓

Thanks for this video. It very clearly explains how cognitive empathy is distinct from the other types of empathy.
Really appreciate the picture you painted of how people with dark triad traits who also have dark empathy may operate and how this empathy can add additional fuel to their usual levels of toxicity!
In your description of dark empaths, it sounds like they have emotional intelligence and can recognize different emotions in others; but instead of feeling the emotion --they just put on an appropriate `'act" to get the response they want. The more I understand empathy, the more it sounds like emotional intelligence and the ability to feel/recognize one's own emotions. (And we have a lot of different emotions, both positive and negative). I think a true empath can actually feel what another is feeling, not just reflect.

I was growing up with psychopath father and being bullied everywhere, my childhood was hell so i believe that made me dark empath
It’s how a healthy person protects themselves and treasure their empathy in a toxic environment full of narcissists.

Sometimes, feeling things so deeply can change you. Sometimes one has to force a psychopathic personality in order to deal with everyday reality.

Im in a place that is a bit messy, im quite confused, but I think u describe my mother here. Although I'm not sure it isn't me, or both of us? We have not spoken in 2 months. People think I am horrible and at fault, but they don't know the truth, I know what she has done is wrong, yet I still feel guilty. Unfortunately you will wake up one morning and see her image starring back at you.... That is the BIGGEST SHOCK. Be impeccable with your words and do not procrastinate if you don't do it; it is most certain that you will have regrets.
Same. You tend to feel guilty for trying to separate yourself from the toxic, narcissistic person, especially a mother, but it really is the right thing to do. All my elderly mother’s church friends think I’m a horrible daughter…horrible person. She talks horribly about me…gossiping, lying and confabulating, yet she is the emotional and mentally abusive one. Poor put upon mother! I feel sick, every day of my life, due to her destructive behaviors aimed at destroying me, and the guilt I’ll feel from not wanting to be around her!!!
I can’t understand why I attract these type of people. I’m so exhausted from dealing with them. I’m living with two narcissistic dark empaths. So tired drained.
Narcissists do have cognitive empathy, they utilise it for their aims, BPD even have affective empathy yet can flip into dissociative sadistic states.
So the label Dark Empath seems surplus to requirement- it’s just narcissistic traits, and often (as the comments section illustrates) in people who want to justify their traits to themselves as ‘protective’.. Which is exactly what narcs do- justify their attacks. Narcissism is on a spectrum, everyone has some traits, don’t let someone drag you down to their level and push you further up the scale towards vindictiveness. Fighting with them just gives them more attention.

I am confused now and worried if I am one because I am learning to grey rock narcissistic people but I feel bad for doing that .
With your description of the first date Darren, I doubt there would even be a completion of the first date. Personally I would run out as I did with a man who asked way too many questions about my young children.
In one research population, dark empaths were 19.3%. Very frightening people.
please, could you make a video upon analyzing late British pop singer George Michael type of personality I was just greatly confused at the time. Or may be even me))) you can easily find the description in Fifty Shades Of Grey trilogy I was 13-15 at the time. Means still naturally narcissistic some way as a teenager
is their empathy something that they have to consciously flex like a muscle and look for-- or have naturally but chose to use it to exploit & manipulate??

Was martied to an evil monster like that for 23 years. Left him ,after the kids were grown and i finished my education. I pretended to be his victim, so he thought he had the upper hand and backed off. Meanwhile i saved and plotted.

We can make up any category we wish with these human traits of ours. What he is talking about is manipulation, which any human can do. There is more to this simple pop psychology in understanding unconscious intentions, lacanian enjoyment, and other areas of normal psychological development within culture and society. I think a lot of this classification really applies to a spectrum that every single person can fit into, and which is what makes this audience capture and incessant videos another example of said narcissism. it's very possible, I'm wrong, but the amount of true narcissism and manipulation is based upon the current cultures and desires we have...
