One reason your channel is so successful is that you have a lovely personality and are a natural behind the camera..... 🤗
❤😊
Douglas is a good addition to the new equipment..Maybe that should be his new job to camouflage all the new machinery.😅😂
Yup! His job is to prevent tampering of the equipment lol
Love Douglas! has caracter!
Laying on the rock like a Lion King.😄
The pond looks so much better ! And Douglas watching over his “fishdom “ 😆
That was so adorable. Laura is like Snow White, the animals always find her.
When I saw the hole in the stump, I giggled to think how embarrassed Douglas would have been had he fallen in while acting so lordly! I do love an embarrassed cat once in awhile!
Love how Douglas finds a way to strategically make it into the camera shot. Has he been talking to Russell?
That white fish is happy to.
I didn’t know Laura had a new cat, he’s so cute!!
Douglas looked so good on that stump, he is a cool cat! He got in the shot. I can't believe the transformation, the pond is beautiful again!
You can see Laura's jubilation and excitement brimming to the surface at the clean pond.
Douglas back there, living his best life. 😂
Really want to thank you for all the 'this is what really happens" videos this spring. Taking down trees, visually showing dividing plants, the pond, plant rescue, various contractors doing things. It really helps to see all these things and to have visual points of reference (not that I have a pond) so when I have things come up, I know I can do these things.
That has to be the most satisfying before and after you’ve done to date. The only thing missing is the sound of angels playing trumpets during the after scene. 😂 Douglas looks rather regal on the log. My favourite aspect of this video is Laura’s enthusiasm for the whole process of cleaning everything out. Going forward how often do you think you’ll need to do an intensive clean like this?
It is so satisfying to see this process and fun to listen to Laura describe it with such enthusiasm! So many things that were interesting and educational. Great to see how well the fish are doing and how they’ve grown. Douglas is such a character! Great music choices to emphasize the creeping green slime monster and joyous defeat of the villain! Thank you everyone who put this together! 💚💚💚🙀😻🐟💦
SHADE, SHADE, SHADE!! 🏖️
I also have a Aquascape pond, I live in Broward County, FL (South FL) we are a zone 10a and the same thing happened to my pond but only sooner. After 4mths of the pond going in, it looked exactly like yours.
The reason the algae bloomed so quickly is that the pond is exposed to the sun, there was no over head shade trees or coverings. You have to remember although algae can grow in low light conditions, the best way to get on top of it or prevent it entirely is make sure your pond receives shade. Algae grows prolifically under constant sunlight.
I made a comment on your video when you first had the pond installed telling you that it's too exposed to the sunlight and that you won't make it a full year without your pond being overgrown with algae! Take it from someone who's had 3 Aquascape ponds comparable in size to yours and bigger, and someone who lives in the 🌡️🔥 hottest climate... SHADE, SHADE, SHADE!!! 🏖️🏖️🏖️
Exactly. Shade. Helped ours too. And it helps protect the fish from Hawks flying over and snatching a meal, although that still happens.
Yes! Dogwood, redbud, weeping Katsura…something! Anything!!! Trees, trees, trees!😊. Trees are the “Garden” answer!!❤
We use twilight pond dye, and that is all we ever add to the water. It makes the water reflective, predatory birds have trouble seeing the fish, when they are near the bottom resting, and the pond stays cooler. It also blocks some sunlight. I do believe they want pond build customers to contract for a maintenance package, of course. The videos we see always show a yearly pump out and cleaning. Our pond in PA of ten years never gets that bad, has no shade, and we never pumped it out, only did partial water changes, because our well takes too long to fill it. We have many big koi, but no rocks in the pond except on the top edges.
The music accompaniment to this saga was hilarious. Especially the sounds of doom when you showed the algae. Well done with the fish rescue!
🙋
Love the sound of "moving " water.
Agree

I was thinking the same about the music. Fun change up.
I was cracking up over the doomy music for the algea scenes and the joyful music for the clean scenes. Whoever edited this, kudos on creativity and humor!!
Laura! You are a real woman warrior!! So willing to take on any chore! Wow! You go girl!
The pond looks awesome.
Whoever edited the video, im laughing-the creepy music then bright music was perfect!😂😂
WOW!! It’s awesome! Good job everyone!Douglas is adorable!!
Laura ❤you have such a beautiful way of speaking to us 💫
Douglas 😂 he can’t help himself!
The pond looks beautiful, thank you for bringing us through the process, I look forward to your videos every morning with my coffee, great way to start the day!
Beautiful furry ornament you have laying in your stump. Douglas doesn’t want to be bothered during his spa day.
Douglas wants to play from his spot . He thinks it is all a game
Only Laura can explain algae and not make it boring. Her descriptive qualities are amazing. I guess that’s why she has almost 2 mil subscribers.
I agree 💯 she deserves every subscriber too!!! She’s elevated gardening to a whole new level and she’s becoming the standard in which we all refer to so that’s is what amazes me the most but she’s amazing 🤩
What an amazing difference!!!
Right! So fun!
Hi Laura! You may not be aware of this, but fertilizer runoff from the plantings around the pond can lead to excessive algae growth due to a high amount of nutrients in the water. That could be the problem you’re facing. Either way, you and the crew did a great job clearing out the algae and the pond looks so much better! 💧🐠
Isn’t the pond has a liner?
@@tracktor721 Yes, it does, but that can’t stop fertilizer on the soil surface from getting washed into the pond by rainfall.
I also don’t understand how the filtration parts and auto dosers etc. were not installed at the time the pond was installed. It is amazing how the fish were able to survive all that string algae growth.
Exactly what I was thinking…fertilizer runoff.
It's also nearing spring. All that biological matter that weren't taken up during the winter (especially if you're not doing water changes during the winter season) are now just being consumed.
I so enjoyed this video! I have had a pond for over 30 years and have never seen so much algae! It is such a big job in the spring to clean the pond but the results are worth it. Just beautiful! The skimmer will be a game changer.
I had no idea that you would use a pressure washer - thank you for sharing the process - so interesting! All the work you do gives me so much joy. I can't do the work like I used to when I was younger and your videos make me feel like I am still part of the of the big process. It's wonderful!!! Thank you! I am so happy that you and others are sharing their love of gardening to inspire young people to start their own garden adventures!
The before picture looked really daunting. Wow. I would have been overwhelmed and ready to give up on the pond. So glad Chris and crew could help and Laura as always is willing to jump in and do the dirty work too. Good job everyone. It’s a beautiful after pic.
A blessed evening to everyone!!!!
The spooky music for the slimy pond footage was so funny! That’s quite a cleaning process, but as you mentioned, it will be easier in the future. The sound of the waterfall is so soothing-what a wonderful place to hang out.
First, what a difference! The pond looks so lovely after all of the hard work! Second, did you say the kids were swimming in the pond? Their teeth must have been chattering! Last - the fur coming out of Douglas' ears...makes me swoon. He's a feisty little bugger but gosh he's handsome.
Ponds aren’t for the faint of heart. They have lots of maintenance, But it is worth every second! A pond is kind of like a dog. There is maintenance, but also so much enjoyment and entertainment in the garden🥰
Haha, I knew Douglas was going to do that, he just wants to play!😅 He looks great posing on these rocks BTW, blends in beautifully, and the pond looks great too😊
The pond looks amazing!! Well done. Thank you for sharing the process because you are assuredly not alone with these issues. At least we can all see what all is involved in maintaining this beautiful space. Love that the fish are warming up to you 🥰
Wish we had had your ecosystem for our pond. Had to clean and refill with fresh water 2x a year, spring and fall. Put all our fish in kids' little swimming pool. Had to pick a day that was warm but did not get too warm for the fish in the swimming pool. Was beautiful after each cleaning! Did so enjoy sitting by the pond in our glider bench in the evenings with my Sweetie💞 who has since passed😥💙 Ponds are so relaxing.
P.S. we had to fence, a short one, and had to add an electric "string" across the top to keep the raccoons from getting our coi😯 When our little grandson, 4, came to visit we always turned off the electric fence but one day he tried to reach over to disconnect the electricity and was shocked. From then on, it was always " Grandpa, can you turn off the shock mode?" To this day, we still get a chuckle, and he is now 16💙
well I was gagging LOL
but the music was hilarious
Duluth makes gardening pants & overalls with knee pads.
Loved this video, the music, the whole process!!! ....That Douglas cat melted my heart when he was "king in the castle, or of the pond" when Laura was explaining the electrical stuff....He sure fits right in there....
I have an idea. How about showing little vignettes of your spring blooming bulbs (and crabapples too) at the end of your videos, just the same way you added the little video of the play structure yesterday. We keep seeing beautiful teases of color in the background.
Midnight in NZ but I can’t sleep until I’ve watched GA ❤
Only Laura can make cleaning a truly gross pond algae growth at once informative and entertaining. Love your upbeat attitude in all things! Douglas is the perfect addition to your kitty family, too, he's quite spicy.
He is a spicy adorable kitty! Such a personality. 🥰
Spicy is a perfect description for Douglas. Reminds me of my kitty Badger in looks and attitude.
Douglas says, "Don't touch that!" He reminds me so much of my girl so pretty but so finicky about how and when they get pets! The pond looks so good now, big change! Love getting to follow along as you are learning too!
So sweet how the Koi were being affectionate😊. Do the cats seem curious about the fish? I can imagine Douglas trying to catch them lol😸.
I'm curious why the skimmer wasn't installed initially as well as the self dosing system. But glad they are there now. Beautiful pond and I'm glad you keep it real by showing what a green glob it had become!
The before & after music for the clean up of the pond was beyond delightful. The pond looks wonderful. I can't believe the fish were allowing themselves to be touched. So satisfying that the fish are tamed & the shark is alive!
Looks soooo much better.
Question: Why didn’t Aquasape install the skimmer and chemical filtration system in the first place? Plus you had your water brought in for the fill last time, so why did you fill with hose water this time? Just curious. 😍
Your pond looks fresh and squeaky clean. Also, try adding variegated Cana plants near your pond. They are thirsty plants for sure.
I lived in the UK for 4 years and they love koi ponds. I toured so many beautiful garden centers that also had specialty koi and ponds. I built one myself but of course had to move and leave it behind but oh how I miss the peaceful and serine sounds of the water while being able to watch the beautiful koi swim. I had a big garden to help clean my water along with a uv light. The plants really helped and some spilled over the waterfall into the main pond. Such an addictive hobby!
Curious why the skimmer, auto doser and jets were not installed when the pond was built?
Amazing transformation! What a peaceful place to enjoy. 🔥 🐠 🪴
I think the patio jets were in the original design and previously installed. BUT, I was also wondering why the skimmer and auto doser were not installed when the pond was built?
… Those were my first thought s when I saw the nasty condition of the pond.
Douglas wants to playyyyy 💕
laura your world is so magical no wonder you guys don’t travel much!! i lose myself when i watch the videos, thanks for sharing happiness and beauty
Why travel when you have everything there!!!!! Beautiful property!!!
I completely agree with you Stacey!!! She makes my mornings so much more pleasant.
I don’t think I’d travel either if my home looks like Vacation paradise.
The sight of the algae gave me post traumatic stress. Our pond was about the same size but I did not realize how quickly the algae would take over. We finally solved the problem since we lived on a lake by constantly pumping clean lake water thru the pond. Yay. Next problem was the snakes getting caught in the pumps. I was the only one in the family willing to unwrap the dead snakes inside the pumps. 😳 We also had to deal with the blue heron eating the koi. Never really solved that problem since the koi were too large to hide. We had fake heron around the pond that were motion activated and shot water but they were not fooled for long. We sold the home and we understand the new owners covered the pond 😢 but I totally understand. It definitely is a labor of love!! Think long and hard before adding a pond to your yard.
Douglas was having fun with you 😂 He’s such a handsome boy!
Laura and Aaron, I don't catch all your videos, but I want to say that 1) I learn from you when/how to do things and 2) I've LOVED the pond from inception to today! It's so wonderful to watch you care for God's creation, which is so beautiful!
It’s good to see the reality of having a pond and it’s good that you have a lot of help with it. It’s beautiful when it’s clean.
Laura it was fun watching the algae clean out of the pond. Glad you have the gloves and waders. Your helper Benjamin was enjoying the procedure also. Douglas was enjoying his spot as you showed the equipment, he is such a mischievous guy. Thank you so much for sharing, you always have a wonderful positive attitude with whatever is happening.
What a joyful informative video for all those that are blessed to have a pond, and the rest of us salivating for a pond!❤ Thank you Laura!
We got you!
Good morning all have a safe and blessed day ❤️
water features are amazing to say in the least regardless of size. With regard to burying and hiding your wires and stuff- how about a "wood" bench to accent the Adirondack chairs, with a removable top and back with everything mounted for easy access and viewing . Great job on the coverage of before to after and all to do with the here and why. :)
Enjoyed the video so much today. Glad you installed a skimmer. I also gave a koi pond but not quite as big as yours. I found out that if I roll up a small piece (12”x24”) of filter pads and put in skimmer basket, that it helps collect the junk that is in the pond. I use about 2 of the pads and clean the skimmer and pads about every 5-6 days. It really keeps pond clear. Hope this will help
Oh my, what a dramatic difference. Great job it's beautiful.
What a transformation! Is there a reason the auto-doser and skimmer box weren't installed initially? So satisfying to see the algae being whisked away ☺️
Gorgeous of course. Douglas is always fun to watch.
Hi Laura great video. Couple helpful tips as dealing with large pond. LAY A FABRIC DOWN BEFORE LAYING MULCH. This will help to make somewhat of a border/screen barrier to when it rains the mulch will NOT go through the rocks and end up in your pond and make a HUGE MESS! All the area where the electronics are the switches, the programming of the system think about using a artificial rock something made for septic systems to hide and then add some real bolders and small rocks around due to the longevity keeping it dry especially since you get winters there as well will save you so much HEADACHE in the long run. Another thing that was great was planting holes in where your rocks are for annuals and perennials and just setting your container down in the hole and then after the season you can plant them out in your landscape especially ground cover perennials so they don't take over your rocks. Good luck and have FUN with your pond. Hope these little tips help out! Take good care. Look forward to your next video!
The ominous music..so fun. What a chuckle! Looks so good and that Douglas, what a dang diva!
I was happy to see the process! Thank goodness all fish are thriving! Everything is so beautiful. It’s going to be nice sitting out there while kids play out in their area in the future!❤❤❤
The pond is simply BEAUTIFUL Laura 😊
Thanks Laura, I truly enjoyed this video. I know nothing about ponds, but you always explain things well. Glad the kids got to swim. What an exciting time ❤️🐠🪨🌾🪸🌾🐟🪨
I have been wanting a pond for many years, we have the land to do it, but I have anyways been scared to get to the point u was at and then not knowing what to do. Yours is an absolute DREAM, Your so blessed to have Aqua scapes there to help❤❤❤❤
You are getting your own little ( Stay -Cation) right in your own back yard. Your kids are so fortunate to grow up there.
Wow~ I'll never take another fish pond for granted again. Thanks for sharing. I thought about putting one in, but I'm convinced it's too much now. Thanks for sharing.
That really looks great. I think ponds are allot of work. We had a small one with mini goldfish and they were always under the plants trying to stay out sun. Eventually they passed because I think it got too warm for them. So, I think anyone who wants a water ponds, needs to really get professional help like you did for it to succeed. Exactly what you are doing. Thanks for sharing all you've learned.
My husband and I met Chris at the Boise Flower and Garden Show last month! What a nice guy to work with at your gorgeous pond! It looks so, so good after the tweaking!
Oh my goodness…that was amazing!!! I’ve never seen a pond like this, so I know nothing about them. It looks wonderful! Thanks for sharing!❤
I saw a video awhile back of this lady in Europe who naturally ages her terra-cotta pots by submerging them for a week or so in her algae-filled pond. They were stunningly beautiful with tones of green, and darkened colorations. I was reminded, when I saw your algae-filled pond.
It’s amazing what a difference it made . The more I watch your videos the more I learn , awesome! It looks great! I’m glad you were able to get it done . ❤
You have the most beautiful pond. It was so nice to hear the waterfall in the background. How nice you can hear that every day 😊
We have an almost 26 year old pond that we installed ourselves. This was before Aquascape was a thing. We have a skimmer, pump and a waterfall. Nothing like yours!. Ours requires a lot or work cleaning the skimmer filters every day!!! I can only dream of having a pond like yours. We do have koi and goldfish that winter over in there and my waterlilies have really multiplied. Your pond is just beautiful and I'm sure if will only get better with time. Enjoy!🤩
So nice to see the pond again, everyone did a really good job!
Will you add more plants to the pond? I’ve learned that shading the water also helps keep algae in check. Love the pond updates!
Oh Laura !! Bless your heart ! Your battles with algae reminds me of when I had an aquarium in my bay window. I dealt with regular algae, on a regular basis. I did the same thing you did,( take the fish out in the "old water"w/the air pump, scrape the algae out, clean the rocks, then refill the tank w/ clean, conditioned,warm-ish water. I had a thermometer handy to keep the water temp the same,so I wouldn't shock the fish 🐟 ! It took me a couple of hours. I found out later that the food I was feeding them had "Spirinula " in it, which is string or "hair" algae!! 😂 Needless to say I changed their food ! I didn't realize I was adding algae every time I fed the fish! Check out what is in the food for your Koi fish! Make sure there is no " Spirinula " in the ingredients!! From Georgia with love ( & "sage" advice) ❤️🐟😂🤔😉
Well done Laura. It's such a steep learning curve. Love the fishes. Boy have they grown. xxxx
That cleanup is amazing. Beautiful pond again!
So satisfying to watch. Thanks for bringing us along!
Fantastic! Such a beautiful pond and space. 💚💚💚
Beautiful backdrop when you are standing there and explaining. Also, love the music to match the BAD algae and the GOOD pond, very clever really fits the pictures! And the final shot of Douglas laying on the stump while you are explaining looks so cute! Great video Laura, and I can't wait to see more of the pond this year. 🥰
The pond really looks good! Y'all were getting it done!
What a great video! Thanks for taking us along. Glad to see the pond all cleaned up.
Wow. It looks great now. I love your pond. So calm and peaceful. Have a blessed day everyone.
That is a gorgeous pond. I am loving all the glorious evergreens throughout your beautiful property
You are so positive, Laura, and you trust the process. Good for you!😊
Wow! Incredible!!! Beautiful pond. Great video ❤❤❤
The price to hire a team to clean up that "algae mess" must be phenomenal. Lucky you that the job is done gratis.
Mine cost $700
That’s so precious the fish got close to you! They really were grateful and know you! So so sweet! It looks great!
Wow! What a difference. It sure took over fast! I spied Benjamin helping out :)
Loved seeing Benjamin helping with the pond.
What a huge difference!!! So beautiful!
Looks amazing! What a difference!! I love the sound of the waterfall.
How satisfying to seen this clean! I love the sound of water movement! ❤
The pond looks beautiful.
💕 love the pond and beautiful transformation and happy 😊 to seeing how beautiful it is 💓
It appears that Douglas the Cat has decided that he will be in charge of the pond area, overseeing the fish community from on top of the wooden tree stump. He seems to take the responsibility in stride, flicking away at Laura's hand from pointing towards the tree stump, his seat/throne of choice. Go, Douglas!
What a great group of help! Very satisfying to see the transition.A definite spot to enjoy. Thank you for sharing.
I always wondered what upkeep a pond would take. This is such a learning experience. Thank you for such a great video.
I remember our annual pond cleaning. Looks beautiful!
Stunning before and after of this lovely pond! Amazing!
Wow, it's a night and day difference! It's beautiful! Blessings 🙏🏻💞
