i understand why your lessons are so easy to understand, just because easy is part of your name, the only thing we have to do is play it over and over again. I read through most comments and i find out that 2 years ago someone commented on this video and 5 minutes ago as well, people keep watching and it wont stop, it sounds like you did the video few minutes ago. Mr. Easy! You too good, thank you for your support, we will keep learning from you till we do like you do or more, i really appreciate, we love you.
The ip helper-address is what i had been troubleshooting for a long time, only to find out The solution was on a 18min video... Definitely a great tutorial. I loved it.
Cool, and thank you for the response I admire your work not only because I'm Cuban as well lol...but because I'm also in the networking world and it's a privilege to have professionals like you who are willing to take the time to help others. Keep it up, and thanks once again from an admirer of your work. Gracias !!!
You are correct, you can setup the router as the DHCP server and it would simplify things. This was a lab demostrating the 'IP helper-address" withing a VLAN enviroment. But take care on which router you would setup the DHCP service, make sure is not a router handling lots of traffic or is already burdened with other services.
Thank you for sending this message, but although there are so many good instructors out there I strive to give the best of myself and I'm very sincere when I say I really want everyone to get certified. I know it will change lives and that's the legacy I want to leave. Thank you again for your kind words.
I don't normally comment on any video but, mate, you just gave me the info I needed to solve this f-cked assignment I got. Brilliant teacher, thank you.
+Johnnny Demerson How long did you study for and what materials did you use? I am studying for my cert while working full time in IT. It's tough but I'm trying. Congrats by the way thats an insane score. I never heard anyone get that high before!
Pretty good and informative tutorials. Thank you very much for sharing with the world Cisco networking concepts through awesome labs. Cheers from Brazil, Joao
Hi Laz, Great tutorial! Please can you explain me why do you use the switch interfaces instead of doing the sub-interfaces on the router? g0/0.2 for exemple.
Thanks brother, I believe the Packet Tracer is free all you need to do is search for it. Udemy has nothing to do with it. If you can find it I can always setup Drop Box or an FTP for everyone to download it. I going to see if I can make it available as link as part of my lecture. thanks again for the great comment.
@Cubano Madrileno....in this video I am only trying to show the use of the IP-helper command. Therefore, I used an actual server in a different broadcast domain to demonstrate how a host on another broadcast domain can get assigned an IP address, by using the IP helper-address.
hey laz is there a video that shows how your setting up the toplogy. just finished my cisco 1 course and would like to see how your setting up your devices as well as your interfaces so i can rebuild it on my packet tracer. this seems like it would be a great review before i get started with my cisco 2 course.
Hello Laz, just want to say excellent job with the tutorial, you made it very easy to understand. I just have one question, I have a SG300 switch which can do inter VLAN routing and am using a Asus-68U wireless router to do my wired and wireless routing on my home network. I'm trying to setup a lab that contains VLANS and want them to have access to the internet. How can I accomplish this without an actual router since i cannot add subinterfaces to the Asus-68U wireless router.
@alex yu, my first question would be is this on the same switch or do you have multiple switches with multiple vlans? my sencond questions is can you ping other vlans? If you can't ping other vlans, my third question is did you trunk your ports? Based on your question I can only deduce that your tagged vlans are trying to get accross a non-trunking port.
Hey Laz... Great videos bro...I wanted to ask you if you can let me know where can I find the previous video of this lab or the whole lecture videos, it would be amazing, im not able to find them and I really want to view them, so i can be on the same page you are on this video. Thank you very much for your help, and amazing work on your video tutorials Kenny
Hey Laz, love your videos my man. I am guessing you would have to nat translate each of the sub interface default gateways to one public ip for outbound internet access?
Do you have a video that shows how you configured the whole network please? Also i wondered whether you have a video that explains inter -vlans configs that incorporate an email server?
QUESTION!? IS it possible to connect two Cisco router trough T1 CSU/DSU and have Vlans on both Router 1 and Router 2 communicate with each other? because i config the T1 CSU/DSU interfaces on both routers and i was able to ping but i cannot ping Vlan to Vlan, I'm new into Networking I'M not sure If i'm missing anything
@veq hajgare I'm going to make a video just for you!...so look for it tomorrow on RUclips. Hopefully, I can teach you "HOW TO CONFIGURE DHCP FOR INTERVLAN's" - Laz
I have a situation here, had a router, one switch to be used for vlans and a Dell server running Windows server 2012 R and would like to have all ip addresses all dynamically deployed via the Server 2012 R2 utilizing IP helper from the router, any configuration ideas for this set up?
Hi laz great video! One question do you think wol is possible between server vlan (dhcp, dns, ad...) to computers vlans.. I need to wake up my computers from the server which is always turned on and already configured with two dhcp scopes (2 vlans 1 for teachers 1 for pupils).. Our network core is a level 3 cisco switch... As wol doesn't traverse routers even if ip-helpers allow broadcast from computers to dhcp vlan server it doesn't allow wake on lan from vlan server... I thought about using a trunk between but if so no ip-helper will be configurable in that trunk I guess... I hope I was clear enough to hope having an answer from you... Thanks a lot for your help dude
A have a question: for example, if your NAT Router were the DHCP server, how would you configure the Access Router (in WAN connection between them) to provide all the hosts an IP address, in the diferent VLANs? Hope you can help me, thank you!
I have a question. i am sure there is a security reason behind it. But why use the last number in the subnet to address the VLAN. I only remember on question that did that scenario on the CCNA. But why not 2 or 3 rather than 30 of a /27.
I connect a router with a switch, and that switch with an other switch (so R-S-S). And I have on switch one Vlan10 and 20 and on switch two vlan 30 and 40. I configure the trunk link between R-S and S-S with trunk allowed 10,20,30,40. And I do the encapsulation and everything. Plus my router acts as a DHCP . My hosts in vlan 30 and 40 do not receive an IP as long as I didn't issue the "int vlan 30" and "'int vlan 40" command on switch one. What is the reason for this? Can you explain this? Or is this explained in a video somwhere?
ip helper address converts the DHCP client BROADCAST REQUEST to a unicast address to the target dhcp server so the DHCP client broadcast address can travel through a routed network. Also FYI, ip helper address WAS actually build to help relay 8 types of applications BOOTP, and TFTP , just these days many of the 8 types of applications are seldom used any more except DHCP. most current CCNA materials say ip help address is for DHCP ; true or imcomplete comment.
How can i get my Vlans to the internet ? i have a 2821 router and a 3550 switch ? am not using Sub interfaces ? My Vlans can talk to each other but not the outside world? i have Nat on the router configured. Need a little help Thanks !
So.. why are you using the last host before the broadcast ip address as the gateway for the subnets, as opposed to the first available host in the network?
I've actually seen this done in a few companies where production regions will use the first available for the gateway and dev/lab regions will use the last available. Why? Who the heck knows.... Might be an inside joke or something :D
Hi dear sir: thanks for these useful and great videos. sir i followed all steps as you did. but when i renew the ip address on vlan 10 or ..... the dhcp server assigns ip address from 10.100.0.10 and for the next vlan is 10.100.0.11 and for the next is 10.100.0.12 here is my question that why it is not assigning ip address 10.100.0.64-..... for the second network.??????
This video taught me more about inter-vlan configs than the hours i've spent in lectures and doing coursework, thank you!
Your welcome, I am glad I was able to help you.

how to setup the packet tracer like you do when you minimize the cli of the devices it will become like a tabs below?
hi what is the software you use for demonstrating you labs with all the equipment connected.
A have a question: for example, if your NAT Router were the DHCP server, how would you configure the Access Router (in WAN connection between them) to provide all the hosts an IP address, in the diferent VLANs?
Hope you can help me, thank you!
Question, why did you use the last available IP and not the first one? Just preference? Thanks in advance
i'm looking for the next video after this, configuring the rest of the network using rip v2, until now i can't find it

Yes, but probably wouldn't be a good idea to have your default-gateway address right in the middle of your ip range for hosts.
i think as for tutorial ;P
I've actually seen this done in a few companies where production regions will use the first available for the gateway and dev/lab regions will use the last available. Why? Who the heck knows.... Might be an inside joke or something :D
can please repeat how you do your calculation to accending the ip address and subnet mask sir?
Should i create this subnets? Because im very, VERY confused so i want to do the easy way first
if you assign the inter VLAN to router why you attach a DHCP server you created a server on the router so why you attach the DHCP server
Hi dear sir:
