Just to let everybody know: the fuel systems on these are fine (N57 engine this). The only reason they fail so often (or atleast it seems that they do) is because people that drive BMWs are too cheap and put 10£ of fuel each time and sometimes even let it run dry. This is how you introduce a bunch of air and heat into the fuel system and destroy the high pressure fuel pump. Then it sends shavings throughout the whole system. You then need to replace: high pressure fuel pump, all injectors, clean all the lines, clean the fuel tank. It's a massive job. So please, DO NOT LET IT RUN DRY. Same applies to 2 litre N47 engines too. Just fill it with fuel when it's on 1/5 of the tank. Don't wait.
"people that drive BMW's are too cheap" Given what was said about the comprehensive service history and the money spent on maintaining it, I'm thinking the previous owner has not been a cheapskate...!
I don’t think a premium car with low mileage and under 10 years old should have serious problems with fuel system. Also this car was well maintained so this it’s another reason to stay away from BMW’s reliability. 😅
FYI "Max" on the boot button means you manually put the boot to height you prefer and then hold that button. Next time it will stop at your adjusted height. For garage owners really 👍
I’ve got the 6GT for 5 years now and I only think you really appreciate how good it is once you have owned one of these. Not sure what the 5GT is like to drive but the 630D GT does tick most of the boxes although not a track car but will cruise fast enough on the Autobahn
It should have auto reverse position where they move so you can see the kerbs. Sounds a silly thing but it actually helps. Even my Peugeot has that feature.
I’ve had my 2011 535GT for 10 years now and its a great car. The removable parcel shelf that slots perfectly under the floor of the boot and the dual boot/hatch have been incredibly handy. Cruises superbly. I didn’t realise it was still worth that much. Great vids. Cheers
@@Conservator. my previous car was a 730d se and the 535 seems roomier, especially in the back plus the rear bench seat moves back and forth as well as having reclining seats. Never known a car like it.
Agreed on the blind, love a good pano roof. I only close mine when it’s legitimately hot and it’s being left parked outside for a decent length of time, in a vain attempt to make the car slightly less of an oven when I get back in, but that’s hardly a frequent occurrence here in the UK. Otherwise I’d much rather have more light in the cabin.
Watching Matts videos you notice a strange relationship between people and cars. The newer more expensive cars seem to be looked after whereas the cheap slightly older ones are run into the ground. Then when both of these types become really old everyone loves them and no expense will be spared to keep it at its best like Matts SL.

Hi Matt, your previous review of a 530gt ,made me buy a 630gt m-sport,just as lockdown finished, and it was the best car I have ever owned, never driven an auto box before, and now would never go back to a manual, family problems made me move it on, but now have a bmw active tourer auto, would still love you to do a review of a 630gt, sorry for the late reply but just came back off holiday.
The new graphics showing your costs breakdown was a nice touch Matt. Also, the sensible decision to opt for the blind removal should help the Profit and Loss account being in the black at the end of the financial year. Would be interesting to know how much the Beamer retailed for new in 2010.
I don't know exactly what the price actually was in pounds when new! But I can assure you it was in between the 5 and the 7 series! So, basically, expensive! Although the exterior is awkward (matter of fact it's kind of a marmite car; you either hate it or love it) it's a clever car because with less money than a 7 series, you have an unconventional car which gives you a bigger interior space than a 5 series F10/11, a better practicality, the same amount of legroom in the back as in the 7 series and the same headroom as in the X5! All of this, on the second hand market........ At a WAAAAAAAAAY lower price than an X5, X6 or SUVs in general
Here in Denmark a 530d with all these expensive extras would be on the wrong side of £150.000 but it would still be worth like £36000 today with 200.000 miles on it.. ;)
I've never been too keen on the look of these cars, but the interior looks like a nice place to be! Good to see you get an easy turnaround for a change too 👍 although autotrader seems to think it's a high price. Swines!
its genuinely a really comfortable car to be in, my dad has a late 2011 5GT (tho not as highly spec-ed). The in line 6 is an absolute Ox and pulls so well when needed
Hi Matt - great video as always. When you mentioned the non-folding mirrors, I did wonder whether you were simply travelling too fast for them to fold. After all, trying to fold your mirrors at say, 30 mph, would be a safety issue surely? Scrolling down through the comments afterwards it seems I was right and that if you had Goggled it, you'd have found the info you needed. A lesson for the future, no doubt. Also, if your mechanic watches your videos, which he possibly does, perhaps he is feeling suitably embarrassed at his charge for 'fixing' the mirrors?
Wow. I always forget about these. I’d heard about them pre launch and loved the concept but on a trip to Oslo in 2009 a fleet of them pulled up outside a fancy hotel and I was unconvinced by the looks. I’m over that now though and think a 530d GT would be a great buy.
I used to hate the BMW GT range (3er, 5er and 6er) but have recently come to like them. They do offer a brilliant amount of versatile for the money, even if the early versions are quite visually challenging; although by the LCI 3 GT and 6 GT they do like quite cool in my opinion! Also, they offered such strange engine/ gearbox combos; you could have a 550i (V8) GT, and a 335i Manual GT. You've got to wonder what the market for such cars was!
335i gt manual? Maybe for a towing market? 550gt for the long distance cruiser who wants the power to tow/have fun when needed😅 we just recently got a 620dgt which is absolutely lovely. Perfect for grown adult/elder years road trips with the grandchild and economical around town when used everyday. We considered x3/x5s however when trying to get in, it was too high for my mum who is the primary driver and her knees are not what they used to be. This was also offered with a lot of spec, so all in all, win win win😊
I still don't get the point of the GT series other than parting muppets from their money. Each model is: 1. No bigger on the inside that it's non-GT counterpart 2. Has less headroom in the rear because of the rear roofline than it's non-GT counterpart 3. It's more expensive to purchase and slower/less efficient than it's non-GT counterpart 4. Worse to drive (like an SUV) i.e. it might be trying to look sporty but you can't cheat physics compared to a saloon 5. Can't go offroad 5. My eyes.............................just look at it 🤮🤮 (the 3 GT was a bit better for space in the back but the 5 GT is a joke in this respect)
7 series chassis advantages without having to drive an actual limo. When new they didn't quite cut it in the looks department but when bought in the used market you don't care about looks and it's all about comfort and the drive.
Very smart car , good review, what you did was spot on for the age of the car , IAM more interested in the a good engine and running, Gearbox , good job done .
Feels disappointing you didn't massively overspend 😂 Nice someone has looked after it but Christ it's had some cash put into it. That BMW bong has scarred me for life I swear.
I bought one of these because of your original video on them a few years back, your comment on the drawer for crisps sold me on it! There’s a thread on the FB 5GT page ref blind replacement. 400 quid or so if I remember. I just took mine off and had a dark limo tint put on. Great cars
I think you did the right thing with the blind Matt, our weather in the UK isn't that great so any sunshine coming through is a welcome, Nice to see you picking up a reasonable condition car for a change with little maintenance.white isn't my colour but with the silver alloys and the black interior it goes well. And hopefully a little profit "To keep the doors from closing"😊.
No, you did not cut corners with the sunroof blind. I liked the idea of removing the original blind and tinting the sunroof glass. You just saved a grand that you can put towards day-to-day business expenses. Great video.
That's a nice car. I like the shape and I find big cars much easier to drive. I thought I was the only person on earth still using Pirelli and Good Year. That is a huge amount of car for the money.
I think you’ve been reasonable with the roof blind, especially as your upholstery guy suggested that fix; he’s the expert after all, and it looks neat. I know why the emergency services were going nuts: Matt had bought a decent car for a change, you’d even managed to come in close to the £500 budget! I’d have called an ambulance as well 😅 I did think the 5|Series GTs looked ungainly, not helped by me not being the biggest fan of that gen 5-Series’ nose, but you’re right, it does suit white quite well. Not my thing, but definitely something a bit quirky and different to an SUV or estate.
Great vid as usual . Agree with the work done . Add £1k to the price for the blind and people just see a 5 series GT overpriced without looking any further.
This brings back memories, I used to own two GTs back in the day. Seriously miss those cars and will never understand, why most of the people hate them and think they’re ugly😂
I am one of the few people in the United States that has ever owned one of these. Mine was a 550i xDrive Grand Turismo. It was one of the most problematic vehicles I have ever owned! Everything from minor niggles to catastrophic failures all within the first 60k miles on a meticulously maintained dealer serviced vehicle. Almost everything that used electricity failed at least once and a couple of things like the window switches and motors plus the sunroof motors failed multiple times. It had numerous issues with the turbos and oil leaks. A 100 miles before the warranty was up I traded it in on a Lexus.
@ln5747 Yes and diesels were available. What difference does the country of manufacture make? Are Japanese vehicles built in the UK less reliable than ones built in Japan? Wherever a vehicle is built they still are manufactured to the standards of the parent company.
I think i would have tinted that glass..but again each to there own, for me its too much light coming in other than that its a great barge with very little needed doing which we all know does not always happen.
Great video as always👌👌That extra button on the boot is if you want to set a limit to how high the boot opens. E.g. if your frequently parked in a garage with something limiting the boot from opening fully, this is when you’d set the limit.
I bought a 2010 5 Series GT based on your previous video of one. OMG, love this car so much, the 3.0L straight V6 is an awesome engine. Mine is high mileage, had a crankshaft pulley go and the rear air suspension needed new solenoids, but other than that it's built like a tank. I also had the sunshade go on me, I just put it back into the open position and forgot about it, I might get the sunroof tinted at some point, which is what everyone (owners) say to do, a new replacement one will go in a few years apparently. I think you are right, when they first came out they were ugly, but now I see a new x6 on the road and at first I think oh it's another GT, they have seem to come back around in style tbh. Great videos, keep up the great work!
So, I've got a 740i and the wife's got one of these (in six-cylinder petrol guise). Great car, the GT', fast enough, comfortable and safe as houses. (Edit) Also, I'd have fixed the blind and jacked the asking price up a grand. A BMW guy will immediately know that's not right and'll probably be sketched out.
5GT sits on the then 7 series wheelbase, split talegate was really clever and I went on the launch for this car; was for golfers to put clubs in with rear seat passengers having the option to stay dry whilst you did of raining!
You did the right thing with the roof blind. The sort of person who would cause a fuss over that not being done would also question why you'd have had to put the price up to cover some of the cost. It's a great motor for that price.
Matt, what we need from you is a video where you compare the price of 2010-2019 Nissan Juke to proper vehicles available for roughly the same outlay. Explain how in their way they're all way better
Love the channel ive watched for a while and all i can say is I dont know a better person to buy a used car off than you... There maybe one out there.... You clearly love doing what you do and if someone loves this car when they see it they'll pencil the job in.
I used to clean a 3-series GT and it was very appealing, far more so than a saloon and a very spacious, good family car. I was following a 5-Series GT this morning too, just about the only BMWs I quite like so very timely to see one on here!
I have the 6 series GT great car, after selling my X5 good value for money too. M sport comes with a lot of toys as standard similar to the 7 series. Doesn’t handle as well as the 5, but overall very good car, and a keeper for a few years !!
This is a lot of car for the price. Regarding the interior blind, I can totally understand your choice, it would have virtually wiped out your profit if you had paid £1000, to have it rectified. After all it’s a 13 year old car, it can’t be expected to rival a brand new model. As always, great content Matt❤.
What a lovely old barge, very nice. Agreed it has aged well tbh. Like you I wasn’t a fan when it first came out but it looks alright now. 😎 Love the new cost breakdown graphics on the screen, very smart and helpful. 👌🏻
Better option with the blind would have been to roll the existing one back and disable the motor (pull the plug) , thus giving the next owner the option. This would of cost even less to do and still of looked factory. Upstairs for thinking Matt 😉
Think this is a first for you Matt, somebody loved the car got things done. No corner cutting fgor me. Excellent job, another car done for a new owner to enjoy. See its sold on your website so congratulations.
I bought a 90,000 mile Seat Ibiza Estate couple of weeks back and your videos was always running through my head. Full service history, new timing chain, new clutch, few bits of paintwork repairs and wheels need refurbing, but other than that for 3,500 was an absolute bargain. Guy was a really decent dealer as well so they are out there.
Your L322 interior is gorgeous...on to the BMW ever since I saw one for the first time when they came out I always was intrigued by them just never fully sold on them because I liked the sedan version of the 5 series more
Great video as always. One thing that annoys me as I can't work it out is why so many car reviewers use the phrase "pillarless doors" when it isn't the pillar that is missing (presumably so the doors don't fall off!...) and it isn't the door but rather the window that is missing the frame. Frameless doors might just work but they are literally frameless windows no?........just me then.
I have a 530GT 2012 model. Amazing comfortable car and with sports button it’s quick. But Heavy. No major issues to date and and rear airbags were replaced. Fully loaded with kids and gear it flows beautifully and handles sublime. Used to have m3 and the like. But with family those days are shelves for now. On a b road it’s great fun.
Re the BMW 530 GT. You've been more than sensible in the spend. My last few cars have all had sunroofs with roller blinds in them and I cant remember he last time I used the blind! Its always open! so no worries. P.S. great video again. You always seem to talk sense in my view.
Never drove a F10 5 series Gt, but i love the F10 5 series LCI, drove a Luxury model with a dark brown interior with darkwooden trim, 530d, brilliant, comfortable and the design dosent look old. Great buy and video as always Matt! Great decision on the sunroof headlining!
Going by the display on the reversing camera. that car's got a factory fitted towbar. Might be just what someone wants. Look for a little button in the boot.
well done Matt i think you made the right decisions on this car i wouldn't think anyone will care about the blind. like you i never close mine on my Panamera with a dark interior
I bought mine, one year old , and have had it 12 years and it's clocked 59k miles. I absolutely love it, it's never gone wrong, I keep it serviced, I can work all the controls without getting everything fingermarked, it's remarkably economical - the list of positives goes on. It's painted in a silver/gold with cream leather. I don't want to sell it as is perfect for me and looks like a very modern car.
Another great video! It’s a lovely car and it’s so nice to see the previous owner looked after it properly. The GT versions are quite rare, I’m a big fan of a hatchback. Well done!!
If I was looking for a slightly older used car there's only one place I would go. Keep up the good work and do your best to ignore the wingers, you get them in all jobs.
nice video. I think you did the right thing, if it was a safety issue or reliability issue then fair enough spend the money but if it's a cosmetic issue and one that nobody will notice the difference with then do the next best thing
Very nice motor. A great purchase there buddy. It’s quite refreshing to see someone actually looking after their car for a change on these videos. I’d quite happily buy a car from you seeing the work you put into them. Another great vid and a great educational channel. Long time subscriber here. I’d say that is good advice for any modern diesel engine as they all don’t really like to be run dry or misfueled.

I know why the emergency services were going nuts: Matt had bought a decent car for a change, you’d even managed to come in close to the £500 budget! I’d have called an ambulance as well 😅
I did think the 5|Series GTs looked ungainly, not helped by me not being the biggest fan of that gen 5-Series’ nose, but you’re right, it does suit white quite well.
Built in Germany? Petrols aren't as good also (new 3.0 petrol is good though), US seem to not buy diesel.
German build quality garbage
@ln5747 Yes and diesels were available.
What difference does the country of manufacture make?
Are Japanese vehicles built in the UK less reliable than ones built in Japan?
Wherever a vehicle is built they still are manufactured to the standards of the parent company.
all US Bmws are not manufactured in Germany so next time buy a uk or europe import
@@williamegler8771country of manufacture makes a big difference I’m afraid
Great video Matt you’re exactly the type of person I would buy a car from exceptionally high standards in your prep and a genuine honest bloke !!!
Would of done exactly the same Matt👍🏻 one of the less headache cars and £1500 profit😁
Nice one!
No corners cut,you did the right thing/choice for the age of the car
Thanks
The blind removal seems very sensible, a tint would have been good but I guess new owner can decide. Nice car.
I took the blind off mine and tinted the roof
Always had a soft spot for these, loads of room for the family and all the luxury needed, GLWS ,priced well also
I think i would have tinted that glass..but again each to there own, for me its too much light coming in other than that its a great barge with very little needed doing which we all know does not always happen.
I just love the front end & she just flows. I do like these. It's different.
Yes Matt definitely the correct decision, no point spending the extra if you just going to sell it on! Another great video!
Great video as always👌👌That extra button on the boot is if you want to set a limit to how high the boot opens. E.g. if your frequently parked in a garage with something limiting the boot from opening fully, this is when you’d set the limit.
Thanks for the info!
I thought that. It's at the price were you'd still expect things to be right aside from some age related marks and blemishes.
Friend has one, pretty quick for a big bus! Plenty of space everywhere & has aged very well!
I agree
"...would of"..., "would of"..., "still of...", gawd, can't anyone speak English anymore? *Upstairs for thinking, CraigK80* .
@@nickturner2813 😂 get a grip sunshine…..corrected for the grammar police
Good video and a nice motor, also like the way you put up the cost of everything on the screen at the end of the video.
You did right with the blind removal. They tend to fail again anyway so you saved money for the next owner!😉
Think this is a first for you Matt, somebody loved the car got things done. No corner cutting fgor me. Excellent job, another car done for a new owner to enjoy. See its sold on your website so congratulations.
Should be titled “I un-learnt how to use indicators” 🤣
Hilarious.
got me laughing in my hospital bed lad so funny
@@audify3833 hope it’s nothing sinister and you haven’t popped any stitches. 😬👍🏼
At least they going where they should not like ones with indicator flashing right and going left lol
I know it’s subjective but one of the most ugliest cars on the road IMO.
Agree - and bought by people who will tell you it’s better than a 5 series saloon, but the truth is, they picked it up cheap because it’s ugly
@@JIMMYHIBBS1like your face
That “little ashtray” is the key holder.
Makes sense
£10k - £11k for one of those - No thanks 😂
The age of it aswel 😳
Have 2014 m sport lci model, love it. Every morning I jump in it and it makes me smile. 1 thing with bmw definitely get rid off run flat tyres
In my top 10 ugliest Bimmers of all time
Your L322 interior is gorgeous...on to the BMW ever since I saw one for the first time when they came out I always was intrigued by them just never fully sold on them because I liked the sedan version of the 5 series more
I love my old Range Rover
@@HighPeakAutos not loving it should be crime tbh
Nice one Cyril (Matt)
A very very solid car .
I love it
Good profit on this one Matt .
Well done Son
Kevin
They’re great cars. The whole 5 series range. Thanks
Lovely quality mv. Nice. Sensible on the blind. In uk who cares need as much light as we can
Going by the display on the reversing camera. that car's got a factory fitted towbar. Might be just what someone wants. Look for a little button in the boot.
The new layout of the costs/expenses/profit at the end instantly reminded me of the old wheeler dealer episodes
You know I like them high peak jumpers top job. I agree with the sunroof not worth all that £ to fix a roof curtain is it..!!
Sensible. And it’s a good car with a great spec.
"I've MASSIVELY overspent" is great entertainment but not a sustainable business, well done. Sensible head serving you well 👍👍
Nice car. The only extra I think I would have done would be to get some privacy glass film stuck to the sunroof to match the rear windows.
well done Matt i think you made the right decisions on this car i wouldn't think anyone will care about the blind. like you i never close mine on my Panamera with a dark interior
Ive always loved these and eventually brought a 2011 530 back in November !. Beautiful car to drive and i made the right choice 👌🏿
I got one think you did the right thing 👍🏼 you’ve given someone the opportunity to buy into a 5 series BMW for under £10k well done Matt🎉
you are right the 5GT is built on the F01 7 series chassis, the Yorkshire plate is probably from the BMW preparation centre in Thorne near Doncaster
So much want, if only you’d got this before I got my Focus in February!! That should sell easily as its been specced and prepared brilliantly
I recommend to watchers who aren’t subbed to sub!
👍
Thanks 👍
Not cut corners at all. Every thing sorted one way or another. As you said, someone will get a good car.
Great car and it's lucky catch! I like your approach in general. Good work
I agree with the approach you took on the blind - sensible and acceptable. The final outcome will not make the next owner feel short changed
I love it. It's the best diesel van you can get.
The second tailgate button is to set its max height, so it doesn't clout a garage ceiling when it opens
Loved the additional production details, your BTS team are earning their crust :) nice bit of HPA merch wearing too. Another great vid, awesome car, appreciate all your low cost ones but its good to see what you do with a higher end car too, please feel free to do more :)
Glad you like them!
Great video as always! Particularly love this one as my Dad used to have an F11 530i Touring, so I have a soft spot for this era 5 series.
