My headcanon is that Wuhu Island’s tourism-based economy got hit hard by the COVID-19 pandemic, and fell into disarray, and that’s why Nintendo Switch Sports wasn’t hosted in Wuhu Island.
It would also make sense why NSS golf is on an island near Spocco Square instead of Wedge Island, since by then Wedge Island would have fallen into such a state of disrepair and overgrowth and the lack of interest in its renovation coupled with its distance from Spocco Square made it more attractive to recreate the courses closer to Spocco Square.
Realistically, living on Wuhu Island would be very similar to any other Pacific island. Very dependent on imported goods and food, most GDP brought in by tourism, and reliant on funding from the mainland (because let’s face it, they’re not mining Wuhu Island for natural resources).
@@notme8232 I don't know, Nintendo Switch Sports wasn't hosted on Wuhu Island, which I suspect (headcanon) that is because the COVID-19 pandemic hit Wuhu Island's tourism- and leisure-based economy so hard that it was in no condition to host another Wii Sports event.
Really appreciate the vaguely alarmist RealLifeLore-inspired thumbnail, this seems like exactly the kind of video he would make if this island was real.
I would guess that, instead of going into the volcano, waste (both solid waste and sewage) are shipped out on the same boats that import goods from the mainland. I think this is a pretty common arrangement in isolated places where, for whatever reason, they can’t use a septic system or an incinerator. (I think all the development is too close to sea level for a septic system to be effective.) Throwing everything in the volcano probably would not work well-unlike what Zelda, cartoons, or Lord of the Rings told you, things don’t sink into lava particularly much. It’s rocks that happen to be liquid, so pretty much everything will “float” on the surface and burn up, giving off a plume of acrid smoke that would overwhelm the entire island.
shipping that much sewage seems unrealistic to me, but I suppose it could be done. Shipping garbage is totally realistic for an island though what concerns me more is that there is no depot for works vehicles. Things such as garbage trucks, park maintenance, whatever else this island needs. And also seemingly no bus service despite having a dense village and a large hotel situated at opposite ends of the island. Perhaps a vehicle ferry comes, loaded with a few garbage trucks, but that would be less efficient than just having a ship visit once every few months to remove an accumulated waste pile. Where does the waste get stored while waiting for the ship, I wonder?
another comment mentioned that prefabricated small treatment plants are often hidden under other buildings in isolated touristy places. I suppose one house is a fake and that it contains sewage treatment and other infrastructure. (I do not remember any generic buildings having a large door, but if one does it could actually be a concealed vehicle depot and waste transfer facility too. That solves where the vehicles live, where the sewage is treated, and where garbage is stored!)
so I did a little more reading and it turns out you can get sewage treatment plants that are pretty small-one the size of a shipping container could probably handle Wuhu Island’s needs. from there you can take the remaining sludge (i.e., the solids left over after you extract clean water) and ship it ashore with the rest of the solid waste. done right, you could further treat the effluent to recycle into drinking water (this would save a lot of energy; desalination is hard), and possibly even use the sludge for fertilizer.

I imagine the whole Wuhu archipelago is a corporate owned venture built in an European-style off of the coast of Japan. That would explain the impressive amount of entertainment compared to the apparent population.
I'd argue that it would not be available to the general public, the mariokart races are a grand prix only competed in by, I assume, important figures in the local area. Making your way onto the team full of elite politicians and celebrities would not be easy. And when the big race is over, the track returns to being public streets, public paths, public land, etc. An amateur cart race would be unlikely to close major roads on an island with only a few roads. If there was a closed circuit I would agree, but because it is a street course I would go so far as to say there wouldn't even be carts on the island outside of racing season. The teams would take their carts off to the next racing venue, leaving behind none of their high-performance carts for the locals to mess around with

Judging by the castle and the renaissance European architecture, I'd say it looks like an old Spanish/Portuguese colony built during the golden age of piracy that got rejigged as a tourist trap a couple of centuries later. It may look nice, but tourism-oriented islands are pretty much dead for about 9 months of the year. Also, the reliance on imports tends to jack up grocery prices to unsustainable on anything but a multimillionaire's budget. Gonna go out on a limb and assume that they probably don’t dump trash and sewage into the crater of an active volcano, given all the fumes that would give off. Also we can go inside of the crater of the volcano and don’t see any infrastructure for waste disposal. It’s possible that there is either a waste disposal plant underground somewhere or offshore nearby, or more likely they ship their waste somewhere else. A lot of island countries ship their trash to the mainland or other larger islands, it is expensive but given Wuhu’s flourishing economy and close associations with the mushroom kingdom I suspect that isn’t a big deal. As for sewage there is probably just a small sewage treatment plant hidden inside of a building or somewhere underground. You can buy relatively small packaged sewage plants that are produced in factories specifically for small communities like Wuhu.
Maybe you should give this a shot for the Fortnite island as well. I always wondering what life would be like there if you took away all the shooting and players disassembling infrastructure.
