Half of my interest is in capability, and half is in longevity. The latter is what I believe most skeptical folks want to see. Need to assess a 75,000 mile 5 yr truck to know.
Pretty fair review. The powertrain and performance on these Tundras is pretty decent, but the appearance has not grown on me at all. Sounds like it should treat most owners just fine though

Funny you guys mentioned windshield’s. Five days after we got the truck home a rock flew up and cracked the windshield. Called the local auto glass repair shop and they said call back in six months as there is nothing available in their nation wide system.

Most Turbocharged engines make all of their TORQUE relatively low in the rpm band SIMILAR TO DIESELS making them feel very powerful while lugging around at 1800 rpm ir so. They never require high rpm to make their power. Quite the opposite actually.
sounds like you never heard of turbo lag...
@@tom0428 I have. I owned an Audi With a 2.0T motor. It had a little lag and then the power came on fast and in a whoosh! Most modern turbo charged engines have tried their best to eliminate lag and so it isn't a huge issue especially if you've owned several. I think even though they are very reliable, Audi VW make some of the best turbocharged engines in the world. I have heard and experienced turbo lag but in the engines I've driven it wasn't a huge issue. Mine was a manual anyways so I just kept the revs up if I needed right now power! Turbos are very fun.
Amen. Their F150 towing tests tend to run lower RPMs as well. The Tacoma is a part-time direct injected engine and is naturally aspirated so it was not a great example to compare to. Those engines live at higher RPM.
That depends on tuning and primarily on turbo size and efficiency of the engine.

My only Tundra question. Does the Hybrid tow like a Diesel. That was the goal. Did they pull it off ?

@@blinkguy4ever not enough torque like a diesel plus the suspension and frame can’t tow much anyway
@@danielmeador1991 but the hybrid has more torq than for example "an f150 with a v6 diesel engine" obviously being a shock suspension the payload will be less.. but torq wise, the truck is a monster when it comes to v6 engines
@@blinkguy4ever that’s why I also mentioned the frame and suspension also it’s a the torque isn’t always there until you gun it and the engine and electric motor are both on with that electric motor that engine is making no more torque then the regular tundra unlike a diesel that needs no electric motor assist
Gents, remember the higher trims offer the thigh support the incredibly tall TFL crew would prefer :) - btw, will be curious to hear how you compare (seats) to the ZR2. Coming out of an AT4, I do NOT miss the GMC seats at ALL!! Great work on this one btw!

I feel like I’m watching “Family Ties” and this is where they sit around the kitchen table and review the highlights of the season. You know, before RUclips and TiVo.
I’m not sure what is going on with Toyota trucks and their weird seating positions. Seems like the roofs keep getting lower on the Tacoma and now the tundra. I’m a big Toyota fan boy, but their choices, esp no front tow hooks and that weird bumper are bizarre. Won’t be buying a Tundra when or if i ever have to replace my 06 Land Cruiser. I actually like the way the new tundra looks too.
buy a last gen tundra if you need an incredible truck tbh

Had a new T100 with TRD supercharger on it BUT that messed the Tranny up
Great longterm review. If the technology is one of the largest concerns, it's an easy fix for Toyota. The seating for a taller person is a different ball of wax. Some people need to buy a different vehicle just like going to a Mr Big and Tall Store !

While loved i dont think the 5.7 L will be missed once more folks get behind the wheel of the new 3.5TT. Took a day to test drive both, while the V8 growl was fun to listen to when flooring it on the 5.7, the 3.5 blows it out of the water in nearly every other way (efficiency, performance, smoothness ). For everyone knocking on the new platform and saying they should have kept a V8, if you can find a dealership near you that has both, i strongly suggest taking both for a ride back to back and see for yourself. There's a reason why the F150's 5.0 sales are diminishing each year and Ecoboosts now being the most common powertrain option
While i agree variety would have been good on Toyota's part, i can also see why they scrapped it all together. It's an old, inefficient engine that would struggle to meet increasingly strict EPA standards and is outclassed from a performance standpoint. There's also the increased cost of production to keep the 5.7 compatible with the new platform as well
The bill you will get when the turbos go out will blow your wallet too

CBI makes a nice "covert" offroad front bumper for the 2022 Tundra. It adds tow hooks and a winch mount and looks stock.
Too bad the covert bumper doesn’t have a factory solution for a front license plate - hope your state doesn’t have a front license plate cause it’s a great bumper otherwise.
@@C-Rod-cu3uf Good point. I hadn't even thought of that. I know there are hinged license plate holders that are used to hide winches. Not sure how that would mount to the covert bumper though.

All other light duty truck (half ton) manufacturers offer multiple engine options. This will continue to hurt Tundra sells.

Did you guys ever do a New Tundra vs Old Tundra video?
I sat down with my local toyota dealer, spec out a new tundra, crewmax 6.5 bed sr5 4x4 advanced technology package, 7k plan. Do you recommend the truck? Waiting on the allocation ?

Amazing truck makes the old version look like a decade older in technology and performance. Solid truck and time will prove reliability. It is not your typical american truck that always looks the same. Toyota can now compete with the upgrade and attract new owners. People tend to be loyal to their brand.
Very disappointed the Tundra was never vs the normal 3.5L ecoboost. Put that Tundra hybrid vs Andre's truck.
Hawaii has literally only 7 tundras in the entire state. this waiting is tilting me towards spending the extra money for a Ford raptor.
Breaking ice? Pushing ice? I watched the Onion Creek. No ice was damaged in the making of that video. The ice was already broken.

Never had interest in a tundra prior to the 22. Best and most aggressive looking truck in the 60k and less category. 22 Raptor, Tremor, At4x, Zr2 all are at the exterior top

You’re comparing an extend cab to a crew cab. Also, the footprint of vehicles get larger over years…duh! You see that with cars regularly.
But why plastic bed Toyota? Why a plastic bed with rear metal fenders screwed to the plastic bed?!
It’s composite not plastic unless Toyota lied about it and it is plastic
It’s composite, lightweight and durable.
Imagine buying a super expensive hybrid tundra to get only one more better real world mpg than the old version V8, sacrifice the reliability of a V8 for a hybrid 😂😂😂
I was REALLY looking forward to this new Tundra, but this thing is a huge letdown. It literally does/has nothing that you can't get elsewhere.
I always thought half a year was 6 months? It's only been out 4 months.
Love the channel. Love the real-life challenges you put the truck through. Glad you didn’t encounter any problems (wastegate, axle bolts, etc). I’m a little concerned however about buying this first model year. I don’t think it represents Toyota’s normal quality, reliability, and durability. I’m also concerned at how long replacement parts take if I got one.
I also think until things calm down on the whole markup thing, I’m out of the market for one.
While payload is better/standard, I wish it was a bit better so I could do a camper and pull our jet skis. Seems like the Big 3 are my only options for doing that still.
LOVE the HQ19 Black trailer, but am not a millionaire, so that isn’t an option until I win the lottery lol.

I’m sorry , I fell asleep while they were bickering about the Honda motorcycle…….I’m going to go watch some paint dry now. Seems like they are desperate for content now, filling time.
Perhaps Toyota should have taken more then one page from Ford when it comes to power train . They should have kept one of the V8, then the boosted engine and as far as the different driving profiles they should have kept kept it simple and do what other manufacturers are doing. And get it to where it is sexy up with the driver memory seat memory function to where you choose button 1,2,3 and the truck resets the seats, mirrors, and other driving positions would be fast better then what Toyota has . But the lack of town hooks and only one engine option is will be hurting Toyota .
This is not a truck. This is Sequoia with a bed. Real trucks have tow hooks in front.
I can’t help myself but since you said the tundras not a truck but a sequoia and a sequoia is a body on frame truck so I guess it’s still a truck then.

Only thing disappointed doesn't have 4.7 L V8 I'm ok with a 3.5 L V6 prefer on cheaper version as SR5 rest of the trims as ( Platinum, Limited etc) should had V8 was disappointed with styling now think looks amazing just can't get enough of the Tundra only Toyota now I'm loving as my favorite out of the lineup + got some bugs hopefully next year model be better.

Keeping my 2020 Tundra for 500,000 miles. I am at 10,000 miles now.
I can’t help but wonder how your Truck will. last down the road being used over half its life of 7,500 miles towing a heavy trailer..This can’t be good for Motor and Transmission on a Brand New vehicle being* broke in this way. Personally I would not wish to purchase this vehicle knowing you guys used it as you did. I buy for the long haul and would not trust this 2022 Tundra Truck. Not really fair to Toyota Corporations reputation that you guys tested a vehicle this hard being new. Time will tell for New Owner🤔😬 Hoping you will get some contact with new owner on follow up life of vehicle.🤔. Really you guys don’t keep a vehicle long enough to test for common Toyota Tundra Buyers. Any vehicle even the worst should perform flawlessly for 7,500 miles.🤔
Their tundra will last just fine. It’s a machine and machines work better when used frequently.

Doubtful. From my Understanding it's hard to get diesels approved here in the USA. Hard and expensive.
Toyota was boring and not nice to look at. Dumping it for the ZR2 was the way to go!

Even TFL got bored from having this wanna be a Chevy Silverado 1500 lookalike pickup truck. This gen Tundra is probably the ugliest pickup truck out there after the Nissan Titan.
Frankly, they got the wrong trim. Almost everyone on RUclips got a TRD Offroad. Almost no one with a sport or now even with a TRD Pro.
@@arhamkhakwani5851 I agree, the SR5 TRD Sport is a much nicer looking truck. But what bothers me the most about TFL is that they say one thing, but do another. I believe actions speak loudly. They have said so many good things about the new Tundra that I am kind of puzzled how independent they are now. On the other hand, they still have the TRX, but they got rid of this Tundra so quickly. They "liked" it so much that they kicked it out of the door. I guess this is the new world we live.
@@WW-wf8tu I understand your point very well. My issue with TFL is that they appear to be biased and at the same time, they claim that they are independent. Yes, they bought the Tundra with their own money, but they used their connections to buy it first. Similarly with the Ram TRX and the Silverado ZR2. They still need to maintain a good relationship with the manufacturers in order to have access to those trucks/cars first. Am I missing something here? To me that is an issue of building trust. I think their focus should be the viewers. I just watch them for entertainment purposes and I do not put any value of what they say. I do not say that they do not make good points, though.
