  • In this video I play an emulated version of Visco Games' Neo Drift Out "New Technology" in which I play the first half of the video with the Toyota Celica, and the second half, with the Subaru Impreza. Super fun game, and strangely similar (in game play) to Capcom's F1 Dream... How do you pronounce "Subaru" ?

Yea a really good game! Perhaps underated, if you ask me. There were so many "higher budget" games out around that time (like SEGA Rally, Daytona, etc) which may have overshadowed this title (as a racing game)... It holds up well today as a totally playable classic...

Oh wow! What a fantastic choice as usual Mat. I love Neo Drift Out for the Neo-Geo. It has to be the best racing title on the unit. So glad it's to your liking bro. I posted this up on the Neo-Geo thread for you for others to take notice and listen in on what you have to say. Thank you for sharing this with us Mat. 8^)

Once again, thank you for watching, and thank you for the exposure! Love this game more and more as I try to get better at it! The play mechanics (initially) the seem so direct and unforgiving but the fun in this game comes from understanding and learning how to play properly. Super cool game. Maybe one day I'll finish all the stages !

I discovered this in a pizza place when arcades could be found there. It has an appealing gameplay loop, that feels fast and very engaging probably because of the zooming effect, even in the loading screens which are just slow enough to present you with info about the stage, but are skippable. The zoom emphasizes the tight turns similarly to how Capcom emphasizes hits in its fighters or Viewtiful Joe. Neo Drift here doesn't slow down game time, but focuses using the zoom in order to keep the clock running accurately.

Strangely enough, I saw this game at a sea-side restaurant (although they did not sell pizza!). Great take on the game's technicalities, btw ! I agree that it really does play very well, and mostly for all the reasons you mentioned.

I love Neo Drift Out! It's always a good time for a few credits.
Visco made some great games, even if they were conspicuously close in mechanics to the games that inspired them! 😅

Really loving the challenge that this game brings. I didn't have the opportunity to get good at this game (when it was released) but now I'm really appreciating the game for what it is... featuring a clean, simple yet hard to master control system! Definitely playing this more !
